[Archived] New Rovers Boss

Not sure how you call him rubbish or brilliant I'd call him consistent in club management and rubbish at International level.

Career win ratio of 48.85%. at Rangers 51.56%

EHD would love his appointment I'd imagine.

Perhaps because the bit I think of when i think of him is his time at Psg and the only matches I ever watched were those when Lorient were beating them. It's all about perceptions. He would appear to have done much better in his earlier career than later on.

Rovers representatives have been talking to Paul Leguen today according to a reliable source in Paris.

Ha ha ha. Its got be him. He's shocking. Just the sort of muppet that Laurel and Hardy would appoint. At this rate I'll be able to own Rovers myself in 5 years with a Visa card transaction.

Dear God

I've not followed his career so I'm only using stats . kept them up in his first year not to good in his second season but still two cup finals, winning one. and a 48.18 win %, but if every one says he's poo I'll go with that. ;)

Just listened to the Bee interview.. couple of alarming statements I heard.

1) Mrs D is quoted as saying 'i do not believe in living on the edge' I wonder if she defines sacking a manager with a wealth of premier league experience and replacing him with a 1st team coach with little or no managerial experience as 'playing it safe.'

Having heard reports around the camp that the players and majority of staff have not met the owners or their advisors, i find it difficult to comprehend the fact that they are able to single out Steve Kean as a better manager than Sam Allardyce.

2) She is also quoted as saying 'we have a beautiful team, that just needs motivating.' This may just be my opinion but i don't believe that our team is beautiful with regard to football or in any other sense.

We are a well organised team, punching above our weight in the premier league thanks to a well run and well managed club.

If she thinks that the best way to motivate our team is by sacking the manager whom they all respect, and are now devastated after his departure, she is well wide of the mark.

Whats next? Drop their wages.

It is becoming more and more clear that Venkys made a rash and blind decision in sacking sam and are now scrabbling to explain themselves to the fans and to the media.

Desia probably has all the good intentions in the world with her comments but anyone can see she is utterly clueless and has admitted herself she knows little about football.

This is just laughable and I've never known the likes of it before!

Its clear as day JW has been told to keep quiet...THIS IS THE MAN WHO NEEDS TO BE DOING THE TALKING!

If we're togo for the 'big name + brilliant coach or old hand to back them up' formula, I'd like Shearer to be backed up by Steve Clarke. I admit that I do not know anything about Mr. Kean, and he may turn out to be the next Bill Shankley for all I know. If it is a properly decent manager with a bit of clout to their name, then I would be happy with Pelligrinni, Bernd Schuster or Rjikaard.

O'Neill would be OK, nothing more, Dave Jones would be underwhelming, Sven would be just wrong and Maradona would be like recreating the Indiana Jones mine cart scene, but with your trousers on fire.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but looks like Carlo Ancelotti will be leaving Chelski at the end of the season.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3277007/Chelsea-players-fear-Carlo-Ancelotti-is-heading-for-the-exit-door.html

Ancelotti with Wilkins as his number 2, I am saying this with tongue in cheek before anyone jumps down my throat. But you just never know.

Doesn't Kean have a decent relationship with one of the Chelsea managers, either Hiddink or Ancelotti? I can't remember which.

The source knew nothing of the Kentaro issue but sure enough, the Kentaro thread runs through M Leguen's recent past which rather adds credibility to this one.

Leguen's track record is that he is either brilliant or rubbish- he doesn't do Sam solid and reliable, that's for sure. I wouldn't ask a Rangers fan for a reference though.

Le Guen is actually pretty good, as is the Di Matteo suggestions. Neither is rubbish. However both (and Ancelotti) fly in the face of Venkys' stated desire for a British manager. Which I am not relying upon.

Eddie, apparently the Le Guen story has hit another French newspaper as well- I don't know which one.

From Anderson/Nixon in the Mirror:

However Shearer would want assurances about the running of the club if he were offered the job.

He saw how Sam Allardyce was sacked because he was at odds with Venky's over their transfer policy.

Shearer would not want any such interference if he took over and would want the final say over signings and team selection.

He would also want to meet the Rao brothers to see if he could form a working relationship with them.

Although some fans have never forgiven him for leaving to join Newcastle in 1996, most would welcome his return.

Many supporters disliked Allardyce's direct style and Shearer believes in getting the ball down and passing it.

Indian poultry giants Venky's say they are in no hurry to appoint Allardyce's successor. They have told caretaker Steve Kean he will be given a chance to stake his claim for the job.

Cynics will say it suits Venky's to leave Kean in control during the transfer window to give them a free hand over signings.

Kean may also be favoured because his agents are the SEM Group, who are acting as consultants to Venky's with Kentaro.

Shearer would be a completely heart over mind move. Someone from the golden era. Someone to remind us of Jack Walker's good days. But dangerously someone who may not be equipped to manage a football club. Its too early to judge him based on 8 games with a side in free-fall (Newcastle). I wouldnt kill myself if he got the job over people like Kean, or Pearce. But if there are really quality candidates out there, then I wouldnt back him.

Le Guen is exactly like someone said, either really good or he fails. The last real success he had was with Lyon.
