Backroom trueblue Posted December 16, 2010 Backroom Posted December 16, 2010 Shearer.. definitely NOT !
LeChuck Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I'd love to see a Shearer/Wilkins combo down at Rovers, whats everyones thoughts on that one? I'd prefer Shearer/Clarke. They'll know each other from their Newcastle days already. Actually it was Clarke who reinstated Shearer to the Newcastle team after Gullit was fired.
tony gale's mic Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Why the hell does anyone want to see Shearer be our manager? Do we want to copy Newcastles' self destruction of two seasons ago down to a tee or something?!
brfcmad1979 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I'd want the croatian manager is it Bilic? Might get Niko firing and should be able to lure young talent from the east/southern european area!
yoda Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Why the hell does anyone want to see Shearer be our manager? Do we want to copy Newcastles' self destruction of two seasons ago down to a tee or something?! Chicken and beans diet + Venky's perfect marketing
LeChuck Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Why the hell does anyone want to see Shearer be our manager? Do we want to copy Newcastles' self destruction of two seasons ago down to a tee or something?! He was appointed with about a month of the season left, at a club that was already rotten to the core. It's harsh to judge his ability to manage a club on that very short period. Having said that, I still can't work out whether I'd be happy with him or not. Lack of credible alternatives is his main appeal at the moment.

There is something that we are not being informed about as to why BFS was potted
Bobby G Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Worrying comments: Desai : "Unfortunately, we have seen that the team and the players have a lot more potential than what they have achieved or the position they are in. We feel that the club should have been at least around seventh position as of now. "With a little support, we believe we can do even better [than 13th position]." We were around 7th a week ago and we could be again on Saturday evening. The table is misleading this season cause everyone is tight. The points total is more integral than current position. These comments are all surface area comments and really dont do anything to instill confidence.
hawkiiz Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Shearer. No thanks! I don't want him of a few reasons. 1) He's got virtually no experience, and what he learned, he learned at Newcastle. Not exactly a role model club. 2) He would not be a long term manager. We would be another stepping stone. Much like Sparky. Shearer will at some point want to manage Newcastle. I want someone that could stay on for 10 years if he is successful. 3) Although Newcastle were free falling when he took over, he did absolutely nothing to help them. His record after 8 games in charge are 1 win 2 draws and 5 defeats!
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Shearer? No way. I would prefer to remember his time at Rovers as the best player I've ever seen in the blue and white halves instead of the failure I expect he would be as our manager. Absolutely fantastic player but he is no manager.
True Blue & White Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 He was appointed with about a month of the season left, at a club that was already rotten to the core. It's harsh to judge his ability to manage a club on that very short period. Yes but look at their record under Kinnear who he took over from... King Kev 1.3 point per game Kinnear - 1.2 points per game Shearer - 0.4 points per game If Al had have got anywhere near Joe's record they would have stayed up. When you also factor in that Shearer should have had the motivation factor it makes him look even worse. I would not trust Al not to do a Houllier everrtime we play the toon. Do you seriously think he would enjoy beating Newcastle?
broadsword Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Shearer - never struck me as a master tactician. But to be quite honest, I'm now past caring. It's not as if I will have any say, and I'd wager whomever they appoint, I'll not be happy with them. If you sack a manager pre-seasdon, whomever you appoint must be a demonstrable improvement on what you've got rid of. There's no way anyone can say with certainty that that has happened with Steve Kean, and for all his faults, they will need to make a blockbuster appointment to improve on Allardyce. They've been here under a month and I'm sick to the back teeth already.
Bobby G Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Dave Jones is a front runner according to exclusive news from Goal. He is a client of Kentaro FYI. They say Jol who has already been sounded out said NO. He wants a more prestigious job. He is also close to Kentaro FYI. So is the current manager (interim at the club) Kean. Do you see a trend?

Dave Jones is 54 so he is only two years younger than Sam. Obviously he doesn't meet the criteria i.e a young, energetic person they are looking for? Besides Cardiff are doing well in the Championship and have a real chance of getting promoted, you would think he would want to stick by them and see if he can get them up.
Bobby G Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 It does say Jones is reluctant. Since when was their criteria set in stone? They change their line every two seconds.
Ricky Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I heard from a decent source yesterday that jones wants out of Cardiff. Also heard that the taxman will be knocking on the Cardiff door again shortly.

I wanted to maintain a rational thought proces regarding the takeover, but with such utter S-h-i-t-e being spouted, its hard not to be worried. they come across as ignorants, utterly stupid. They state one thing which causes a frenzy and the next day, they desperately try to stop the fire, they themselves started.
AJW Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 It is very interesting that Shearer has divided opinions , i'm in the pro "Shearer with right people around him" camp , and i think he fits the profile that venky's are looking for , however............has he got is "badges" ...????
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 The manager in my opinion, doesnt matter at the moment. The issue is funding. With the current squad only a Sam Allardyce type could have kept this club's head above water with room to spare. If there is significant investment then I dont see why a relative novice like Shearer cant do well. With a higher calibre of player, there is obviously a chance that somebody who likes to play more attractive football could do well here. Mark Hughes had no club management experience when he arrived and he did a damn fine job. On Shearer: Im not looking too closely at his managerial stint at Newcastle. The club was already in the last 1/4 of the season and battling relegation. We are midtable and have a healthy length of time before we may have to firefight. Crucially, January is ahead of us. My initial reaction to Sam's sacking was one of horror. However, if Venky's can plough upwards of £15m into decent new players in January then there may be scope for a relatively decent finish under a vibrant new manager. At the moment it looks hard to see how we can improve on where we are in the table, but if they're gambling by sacking Allardyce then they have no choice but to throw cash around in January. That will dictate our season.
deftangel Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Whoever is advising Desai and saying we've got a top 7 squad is on drugs, the odd encroachment to seventh place notwithstanding. We're too severely lacking in central midfield and up front to be there consistently. Normally, I'd be happy with our back four against anyone mind but there's been far too many errors this season. On that basis, I'd say that 7th place would be overachieving with our squad. Not the other way round. I'd have to cast doubts on Shearer even achieving the minimum, let alone doing better so I can't see how he would be an improvement. I'd rather stick with Kean.
SergioPeter89 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I love Shearer for keeping us up in the 2008/09 season, but no way I would want him to manage Rovers!
nicko Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 It's very difficult to comment on a story that has your name on it...when you did not write the main content of it. So all I will say is...I don't think Alan Shearer is likely. The story - as I know it - is that Steve Kean has the job and it is his to lose. The club needs to make this apparent rather than the wishy-washy statement this morning. A lot of things need to be addressed here. Mrs D has repeatedly said Kean is the chosen one just now. I find it strange that people can't hear that - even if the time-scale of his trial does seem to change frequently.
Billy Castell Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 In other words Nicko, he's in the sort of job that has a 3 month trial period, but can become perminent if he does well. P.S Heard anything about Dave Jones? his odds have always been fairly short for some reason.
chris Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Desai : "Unfortunately, we have seen that the team and the players have a lot more potential than what they have achieved or the position they are in.
