It seems clear to me that Sam was given the boot as he would not play ball with the new Kentaro leadership of the club.

How else can you explain Kentaro/SEM man Kean being given a chance to make the job his own midseason?

This is absolutely suicidal.

How about he might want to play football on the ground & less negative? Or he might want to try new things - like 2 upfront?

As for suicidal? Come on its the same set of players!! We should be fine.

Are you for real Hughesy? I've seen some u-turns on this board in my time, but hell fire.

LET on line poll has Martin Jol on 42% and Alan Shearer on 30% of votes to be our next manager and oddly enough Maradona on 14% , Steve kean btw isnt in the running

Nicko, how come Steve Kean seems so popular with the owners? Is he well known with Kentaro as the Indians surely cant have heard of him, especially when the majority of Rovers fans barely know who he is. I just cant see them giving him the job full time. there are too many inconsistences coming out of what they say. I get the feeling that a big or bigger name manager will be appointed soon, especially if we fail to beat West Ham Saturday but hey ho, im just as confused as everyone at the moment.

Do you know anything on his footballing philosphy? If its attacking and on the floor then he'll do for me! I honestly cant cope watching Paul Robinson being our playmaker!!

Let's not pretend otherwise. His case will have been pushed by the advisers.

But this guy is no mug.

Remember Sam appointed him - not Kentaro.

I don't suppose Kentaro got him his jobs at Reading, Fulham, Coventry or Real Sociedad either.

Kean is a 'Celtic man' who likes the passing and attacking style.

Let's see if he can provide it.

If he does, the clucking will stop.

Two pieces of clarification.

Planète foot print edition apparently has the Paul Le Guen story.

However, it is academic as Steve Kean is de facto the new manager.

Hughesy, how many very recent posts by you supporting Sam do I have to post before you repeat your post boasting how you are in regular contact with the Venky's in Pune? I am not knocking you- somebody has to tell us what they are thinking so it might as well be you.

Keano:

- Sam was sacked for not being positive enough, how do they know SK plays positive football? Or are we going to see Rovers try to score 6 every game (and conceed more in the process?)

- Sam was sacked for his 'poor transfer record', how do they know SK is any better at spotting players?

- This already seems to me to be cost cutting by the new owners, unfortunately they may soon see that the wage paid to Big Sam was worth every penny for keeping us stable in the PL.

- Hopefully we'll get off to a good start on saturday, but even if we do I still think this is a backward step for the club. As much as Nicko is bigging him up (Scottish thing?? <_< ) there's no way you can explain it except for the owners wanting a cheap 'yes man' in charge.

The more I find out about the thinking in all of this the more I think a young manager, who plays good attacking football and can bring through young players is what these people want.

This I can agree with as an aspirational goal. To date, however, Venkys has not inspired confidence in their managerial plan. I hope they get things worked out and firing on all cylinders very soon.

Much as I think Venkys have approached the sacking of Sam disgracefully with no knowledge of football, its supporters, or its culture,Rovers have done quite well out of Scottish managers in the past, however, I must point out, they all had someone alongside them who spoke English and was able to translate some of the Scottish accents, indeed, it took me ages to understand Kenny ;)

First things first, I understamd that ALL of the backroom staff have been promoted this morning. Ian Brunskill to number two, Gary Bowyer to reserves.

So that tells me this regime has some time to show its qualities.

The big question is whether Steve Kean can go from coach to boss, from player's pal to player's manager.

If he gets results it will be his job.

Nobody will care who his agent is - he has been with that group via a mate in Glasgow for years, by the way.

Football has a short memory. Couple of wins and it's Wee Steve not Big Sam.

It happens.

Seriously I think its worth a flutter on the Hammers at 4-1.

Don't reckon we'll get 21 point from the remainder of the season. I'm not an allardyce fan, but you can't rip the heart and soul out of a club and expect it to perform when the pressure's on.

Hell fire what? Im saying thats what they may be thinking....not me. I would have stuck with Sam until the summer, however not given him masses of cash in Jan.

What you on about now Alonso??

I didnt want them to sack Sam...iv never called for it...and I usually backed him on here. Im all about giving people a chance.

I dont have regular contact with Venkys in pune either so againt - WTF are you on about?? Just like your pm last night saying how I had got a contact line with them - What are you on about??

We have been playing 4-5-1 simply because we don´t have legs, creativity or a good striker. Kean or anyone else as a manager can´t change that without huge kitty. One or two new faces won´t be enough if the style of winning means everything.

Depends. We have some legs - N'Zonzi, Olsson, Hoilett. They're just never on the field at the same time.

Get a grip, if west ham beat us 4-1 I'll eat my hat.

I know things are far from perfect mate, but there's no need for these hysterics.

I see Philips point, sorry about the remark earlydoors. Still dont see them beating us though.

It is very interesting that Shearer has divided opinions , i'm in the pro "Shearer with right people around him" camp , and i think he fits the profile that venky's are looking for , however............has he got is "badges" ...????

Yes he has. Think he is doing his final one or has just finished them. I think a managerment team of Shearer and Clarke would be good partnership! Clarke to work with the defenders and Shearer to work with the Strikers and would help Kalinic develop his skills and finishing!!!

Also heard from somebody at work who said that he said that Tim Flowers was at rovers training ground yesterday. He is a good friend of Shearer!!!

If we can't get him then I would go for either Bilic or McClaren as manager.

I would be willing to bet that if Steve Kean beats West Ham and Stoke he is made the full-time manager.

Is this how far we've fallen Nicko, within one month? If Venky's can judge the fitness of a coach to become full time PL manager after two games, we're well and truly stuffed.

Trouble is, with the publicity that we're getting, and the way we're going about our "business" the chances are that no other manager would come anywhere near. I wouldn't.

The Hammers will be smelling blood on Saturday. I won't be able to make it to the game but I hope the crowd back the team and leave the protests to before and after the game.

Nothing much more to say about "new manager" until 5pm on Saturday, really. A good performance against West Ham and a repeat against Stoke and we're laughing. Less than 4 points and it's back to square one.

Well managers don't seem to have a problem going to Newcastle and they've been a circus for a lot longer than we have. I know they're considered a bigger club, but they've won nowt in years and they don't have cash either, so I don't see where our problem will lie. whether they'll be the manager we want is a different matter.

Newcastle aren't effectively being run by an agency and a bunch of Indians with no idea of football whatsoever - are they!

Honestly, I wouldn't come anywhere near at the moment.

EDITED for legal reasons.
