[Archived] New Rovers Boss

Recommended Posts

Newcastle aren't being run by an agency and a bunch of Indians with no idea of football whatsoever - are they!

Honestly, I wouldn't come anywhere near at the moment.

No they're being run by Mike Ashley and whatever the chairman is called and most Newcastle fans wish they weren't. It's honestly time to get over what's happening and support the team. When Allardyce was appointed I really didn't want him. I tried very hard to stay away from Ewood and almost sparked a total family fall out just before Christmas. In the end I was persuaded by my daughter to continue attending. I never fell in love with Allardyce the way some seem to have done, feeling he was the only one who could do any kind of job with the players we had, but I came to accept him and his style. I now feel no sadness that he has gone, only a wish that it had been handled differently and possibly a feeling that the timing wasn't of the best. Football managers seize opportunities when and where they can. If there's someone out there who thinks he can work within the structure our new owners want then he'll take the job if offered it. If he doesn't think he can then he'll either not apply or turn it down if offered it. that's how life works and there may be a shortage of the kind of candidate we'd ideally like to see for Rovers, but there'll be interest - there always is. There are only so many managers jobs when all is said and done.

Is this how far we've fallen Nicko, within one month? If Venky's can judge the fitness of a coach to become full time PL manager after two games, we're well and truly stuffed.

Trouble is, with the publicity that we're getting, and the way we're going about our "business" the chances are that no other manager would come anywhere near. I wouldn't.

I think Steve Kean, who has been part of the coaching team for 18 months or so may be more capable than people think.

I wouldn't be stressing about this quite as much as some are.

I have to say this is pretty much perfectly put and how a lot of people are feeling including me.

I'm not happy you're suggesting that I'm not supporting the team Gumboots, - read my post in the match thread.

As for it being time to get over what's happening, I'm sorry but these people will kill our club and it needs people to stand up and say so.

Kalinic is one reason why i would like Slaven Bilić as manager

When it comes to getting a return on our 6 million Kalinic investment, I agree that Bilic is the best prospect of that. And it doesn't hurt that he has a fine reputation, to boot.

On the other hand, I want to give Kean a chance. Perhaps its all puffery, but there is a possibility that we have a gem on our hands.

I fully accept that there are some fans who are happy to go along with anything, as long as it ended with Sam's sacking.

As for the majority of fans, well 8000 votes - and 76% against the sacking.

Newcastle aren't effectively being run by an agency and a bunch of Indians with no idea of football whatsoever - are they!

Honestly, I wouldn't come anywhere near at the moment.

EDITED for legal reasons.

We know about the Kentaro-Venky partnership, it's worrying though because no one actually knows the full extent of this relationship but only by pure speculation. And this is doubly worrying, clueless fans like us will take this uncertainty, project the most unimaginable consequences that is influenced by the media (think Newcastle/Portsmouth) as representative of what the club is undergoing, and present it as though its as factually solid as granite. Mass hysteria means form of reactive action will be planned (think unfurling some banner during The West Ham game that has been discussed in this MB) and this will fit snugly and reinforce negative media prejudice against Rovers. What happens on Saturday has the potential to shame the club more than the previous 48 hours in the worldwide footballing public.

It is the extent of this Venky-Kentaro relationship that I hope will be made clearer in due time - the first litmus test would be the January transfer windows, how much funds Venkys are willing to 'make us into a Top 7 side'. So sometimes I would appreciate if the mass hysteria is saved for until the end of the window. Trust John Williams for once without trying to read between the lines, we've not had an appropriate litmus test yet.

Shearer has long been a laughing stock on MOTD and his only managerial success was getting Newcastle relegated. But yeah, apart from that, he's clearly qualified to manage Rovers...

For me, the outstanding candidates should be:

Steve Kean - Has the outside chance to step-up and become an exciting young manager.

Martin Jol - (This morning he ruled himself out of the running)

Jurgen Klinsmann - Young, intelligent manager with top-level experience with Germany & Bayern Munich. Ticks all of Venky's boxes.

Slaven Billic - Similar to Klinsmann.

Are you saying that because you desire him or is it that you know something?

Sorry all,

You have to admit, it really is a heart over head moment but to be able to sing that song again would be amazing.

The things I've heard are as follows:

1. VERY high ranking people at Venkys' have seen this board along with others and are shocked. They are used to being treated like royalty and are rarely called anything other than 'Sir'. It is naive of them but I do think that they want their decisions to be respected as best for the club, regardless of what experience may tell the fans.

2. I have been told that Steve Kean is in there unless he proves that he shouldn't be. I have been told that if that happens then you can expect to see the Rao's shaking a certain Geordies' hand...

If this messageboard can actually dramatically influence our owners 'damage control' actions (Venkys are bonafide in this sense) I'd rather have our MB hysteria being channeled into why Shearer or any other manager is not fit or fit for us (was this the exact same messageboard that influenced JW to go for Ince first rather than Big Sam because of the backlash? Yes?)

have a poll?

Been busy at work the past couple days so no real chance to post. So if I have this right, the job is Kean's to lose?

Now I have nothing against Steve Kean, he may well go on to be a good manager. However to sack an established Premier League boss and replace him with somebody untested is ridiculous.I was never Sam's biggest fan but this is a disgrace. I said the other day I'd be happy if we got Jol or the like, but it seems that Venky's are happy with a 'yes' man and are tighter than we'd even given them credit for.

I'm outraged - if they'd had an established replacement lined up straight away I wouldn't have been so mad, but they're taking the p*** out of our club. They know nothing about football and have proved it time and time again in the past couple of days with quite frankly, embarrassing, interviews. If they're reading this message board: get an established boss in (God knows who'd want to join us now mind), or admit you're clueless and do one.

from what ive been hearing today apparantly steve is is regarded as the next owen coyle.

my tin hat is on

"Regarded" and proving it are two different things. Rather than proving it here I'd prefer he did it at a lower league club, but we can hardly blame him.

The new owners have infuriated me over this. Surely sacking an established manager was a sign of intent? Then we're giving it to his number 3. Venky's kind of already deserve what they get.

He might be, but I can't see how anyone can know if he can do the first team managers job yet. Certainly not Venky's because there's no way on earth that they are in a position, have been around long enough, or have enough knowledge of football to know how good a manager Kean might be. Someone has told them, haven't they. And we all know who, don't we!

Back to Venky's and judging someone after two games. If they can give him the job after two decent performances, I assume they can also sack him after two bad performances. Doesn't sound any better does it.
