[Archived] New Rovers Boss

Recommended Posts

I've taken some time to think it over with a bit more of a clear head since all the madness became and have to say that I'm now feeling slightly positive towards the future. I think the new owners have massively stuffed up their PR job and have come out with some bizarre statements, but I doubt they have anything but good intentions for the club and in taking us forward. Kean is an unknown, but hopefully he can do the job. We should all get behind him on Saturday and for the rest of the season that he's in charge.

I share the sentiments of the players like Dunn and Nelsen, as well as the managers in the Premier League that Sam's sacking was the wrong decision, but we'll have to move on. I do believe they have taken a step backwards with this and it will detract from us going forwards straight away, rather than give us a boost.

If the board are serious about taking the club forward, I hope they act quickly to secure some promising signings like the ones touted before Sam's sacking (Adam, N'zogbia and Cole) to show they mean business. Once we bring in the right players, for the right amount of money, most of the fans will shut up and be happy. Our owners have made a number of apparently bad decisions recently, so let's see them make some good ones.

Do they even know what 'attractive football' is? Do they even know what the basics of the game are?

I still find it ironic that people that watch cricket want 'exciting' football

Doesn't matter if he can't organise a team to put out ona Saturday that is well-drilled and hard-to-beat.

I don't rate him as a manager at all.

I don't want/rate him either, I was just trying to think of possible reasons why they might want him. I can't think of any more.

Steve Kean is only name who makes sense now. He knows the club and players. He seems to have impressed a lot of people with his coaching skills. As a manger Kean is a rookie but they all have to start from somewhere. Being a coach for many years helps to make this step more than being a former player. This years matches left means everything to his chances to a permanent job. He has my support.

do you work for Venkys by any chance ?

I do like chicken! I didn´t like Sam´s sacking but it happend and Kean is in charge now. I would like him to success rather than names like Pearce, Eriksson or La Guen bringing here. Shearer will always be my soft spot but Kean is better option. For Venky´s I wish every best but have major doubts also. But not working for them <_<

I've not really posted my personal views on this so far.

In my humble opinion Paul Ince was a cancer on Blackburn Rovers. Sam was the chemo. However, once the cancer has gone and things look to be better, would you continue with the treatment. After all, chemo is damaging to a system.

The short term and fickle memory of the press is very interesting. Over the past year, our style of play has taken so much abuse. I have no memory of ever taking so much stick off mates about Blackburn being boring and just plain awful. I've actually found it difficult to give free tickets to neutrals when I've had them. Venkys snap decision has turned Sam into a martyr and it is damaging to the reputation of our club. Sam needed to go, whether or not this was the right time is a different story. I believe that under Sam's reign we have been conditioned to thinking that we can only pick up points through playing in a certain way and we are little more than relegation fodder. We are better in depth than a good number of teams in this league and from what I've heard about our caretaker manager, I expect to see that on the pitch.

As for Venkys, I risk annoying my contact here but they need to hire an English PR representative through Kentaro and have far less contact with the press. Because of their odd, contradicting comments, the neutral fan is now dreaming of our relegation. This doesn't matter but as a Rovers' fan you cannot help feeling terrified about the future.

The most important thing is that we support the team on Saturday. When the whole world is seemingly against us, we need to stand together and push the team to pick up points on the field.

That is the part I disagree with. I understand your post entirely, and agree with most of it however, Sam's football has kept us in midtable this season after a very solid finish last season. It was only in his first year after Ince that we seriously flirted with relegation.

The football he brought was boring, dull but against average opponents, very effective. Id say that our squad is around the 12/11th spot in regards its strength and, although it was never pretty, Sam probably got as much out of the players in terms of results as anyone could have.

Sam did well considering the restraints that were placed on him financially. He promoted youth and bought relatively well. To expect all that plus playing decent football is a tough ask, but it can be achieved. Kean sounds like he knows what he's doing but I dont expect a sudden reversal of our style of play without new faces in January.

Management of a football club revolves around calculated risks and I do not neccsarily blame the owners for getting rid of Sam per se, however to do it now is a gamble they didnt need to take.

5 million for 6 windows to become a PL force?

I think we are currently a top half club. With 5 million a window over 6 windows, I can see us becoming a top 8 club and, just maybe, snapping at the Big Teams' heels. Th 5 million would have to be VERY well spent. No mistakes. And maybe Kentaro/Kean are the folks to ensure this happens. I don't know.

The sacking of Sam with no replacement lined up gets more and more puzzling by the day. The only way I can understand is it to look at it from an extremely cynical point of view, the fallout of which is worrying for the future.

All I can think is that Venkys have decided that having someone in the management position earning upwards of a couple of million pounds a year is a waste of money, given the way they want to run the club. Not only is this person expensive, but due to their stature they have their own opinion and will not always tow the VH/Kentaro line. So they've sacked Sam, along with his assistant, and saved themselves a significant chunk in the process. In replacement they have hired nobody, promoted several existing employees, who will be far cheaper, grateful for the chance, and thus willing to accept the conditions VH and co dictate. The main beneficiary of this is a Kentaro represented caretaker manager, who will presumably have a new contract written, saving VH/Kentaro a decent amount in agent fees if they looked elsewhere.

I think from a business point of view they've been very clever here. Thats why I don't expect us to be getting a different manager in any time soon.

Agree with that.

Three straight defeats, however, and they'll be running around like headless chickens by about Dec 28th.

This is all thoughly depressing.

Rovers are a laughing stock.

We had a news story on the official website about a chicken shop opening this week.

Everything that makes Blackburn Rovers great is being destroyed very quickly.

Pearce wouldn't be a disaster as a manager. At least he's passionate.

Stuart pearce is second favourite to be the next manager. 3 to 1 will William Hill, Paddy Power and Victor Chandler. Could he be coming in as manager in the summer after the euro under 21 championship.

Yeah, Pearce would be a big improvement wouldn't he.

Not Pearce. We need someone with more experience than that.

according to the poll on the LET website, pearce has 9 percent. Jol has 40% and Shearer has 34%.

I wouldn't be in favour of pearce.

My choice would be Shearer!!!

Jol not interest in the job!

I like the idea of Shearer but I fear the reality wouldn't be too rosy. He just hasn't got the experience and with the Ince debacle a recent memory, it's risky.

Would love him to come here and be a success though.

Who is favorites in the bookies? Kean I gather?

Anything new on the Shearer link? A part of me (my heart) would love Alan to come back, actually love the club, and be successful here. But the fact that he adores Newcastle tells me he will always want to go back there, and with that hanging over our heads, I dont think I would want him around.

A third of our fanbase want to appoint a man whose only achievement in football management is getting Newcastle relegated, and who hasnt done any other form of coaching or management.

I really do despair...

Take away the fact he once played for us...

Who wants him now?
