chaddyrovers Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I like the idea of Shearer but I fear the reality wouldn't be too rosy. He just hasn't got the experience and with the Ince debacle a recent memory, it's risky. Would love him to come here and be a success though. I think Shearer with an experience number 2 like Steve Clarke, Ray Wilkins or Terry Venables. And I could see Shearer as manager working out at rovers! The problem was with Ince that his coaching staff was not PL experience and in the case of Knox too much old school!!! Shearer would know that he would need a experience PL coach on his staff. Paul Ince was ask to bring in an experience PL coach but wouldn't. Knox was at Everton with Smith but football coaching has move on since then!!!

chaddyrovers Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 A third of our fanbase want to appoint a man whose only achievement in football management is getting Newcastle relegated, and who hasnt done any other form of coaching or management. I really do despair... He was there for the last 8 games!!! Newcastle was doomed before He came in. Most NU fans say that it was not Shearer fault they went down but Ashley fault. They had 4 managers at the club that season. Keegan, Kinnaer, Hughton(caretaker manager whlist Kinnaer was ill) and Shearer!!!

Never shown an interest in coaching either. Why on earth would you want to see him manage our club?
chaddyrovers Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 All good managers have a excellent number 2. Fergie has in Kidd, McClaren, Phelen. Wenger has in Pat Rice. Mourinho has in Steve Clarke. Ancelotti has in Ray Wilkins. Dalglish had in Ray Harford and Tony Parkes. Hughes had in Mark Bowen. Souness had in Tony Parkes. Moyes has in Steve Round. Look at Cheslea games after Wilkins left, cheslea couldn't win a game. Tony Gale's mic, who do you want has manager???

I will point out that all of those assistants above have good managers alongside them to a greater or lesser extent. It works both ways. I'm sure there are more instances of crap managers with good assistants not doing so well than the other way round. Like I said very risky to appoint a novice again. I'd rather not see it ever again at BRFC. I'd rather see Eriksson or someone similarly flawed at the helm than a near complete novice.

Maybe Di Matteo would be my first choice but tempting him from the Hawthorns would be tough. Gus Poyet would be a good shout too, has more than served his time both as assistant manager and as manager, though the jump from League One to Premiership might be a little much. Still he'd have a good mix of South American flair and British sensibilities. I think Holloway is overrated, he's done great with Blackpool but he's got a long career behind him which is inconsistent at best. I'd probably settle for him since we're in such dire straits now though.
slough_rover Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Michael Laudrup would be worth a punt.

MeanGreenMachine Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Shearer? The bloke who always seem to forget that he ever played for rovers and has next to nothing decent to say about us most of the time? Nah...
chris Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Shearer? The bloke who always seem to forget that he ever played for rovers and has next to nothing decent to say about us most of the time? Nah... we are not as good looking as we use to be
Steve Moss Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I am really against Shearer as a manager for 2 reasons:- 1) He would be rubbish at it. 2) If he happened to be OK he'd be off up to Newcastle asap. Hopw we don't go down that route. I agree. Shearer may be a personality, but he has done nothing to establish his credentials as a coach let alone as manager. Just because he knows how to kick a soccerball is no reason to hand him the keys of a PL club. Let him prove himself in League One and the Championship first.

He has a UEFA A license and if he hasnt already got it, is working towards his pro license!!
Steve Moss Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 He has a UEFA A license and if he hasnt already got it, is working towards his pro license!! My apologies. I did not know that. I'll revise my opinion: When Shearer gets his pro license (assuming he doesn't have it already), and backs that up with some positive pro management experience (and I don't count Newcastle, not least because it wasn't positive), then he should consider applying for a PL management position. Until then, he should work his way up like everyone else.
booth Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Just because he knows how to kick a soccerball Ah bless
chaddyrovers Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 You missed the two most important ones, Mercer had Malcom Allison and Clough had Peter Taylor!!! Yep forgot about those two! Both were before my time tho. But I have watched damned united. Excellent film!!!

chaddyrovers Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Well, Sam Allardyce, but failing that Martin Jol wouldve been good but he's not interested. Maybe Di Matteo would be my first choice but tempting him from the Hawthorns would be tough. I like BS to still be manager!!! Was very much in favour of him as manager and didn't want him to be sacked!!! Di Matteo would be a good choice for us. I like his managerment style. He would be on my short list as would Martin Jol and Steve McClaren!!!
Steve Moss Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Ah bless Thank you very much. I need all the blessings I can get.
Andy Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Steve McLaren really would be a decent shout, you know. Never liked him, but he did a good job at Boro and his stock has been rising with some pretty impressive achievements abroad. My heart still says Shearer, even though I know it probably wouldn't work. He didn't just play for us, he's an absolute legend at the club and easily the best ever Rovers forward. He has all of the personal and leadership skills (albeit so does Roy Keane and look how that's working out) and I really feel he could be in the Hughes mould. As for big-name factor, I haven't bought a season ticket for years now as I get free tickets when I want to go and have other stuff to do on a Saturday, but I'd be seriously tempted to get one and start going to regular matches again if Shearer was named manager. Also, loved the LT's little dig back at the tabloids (including ridiculing The Mirror for their non-story Maradona sensationalism) in tonight's edition - particularly after reading so many snidey comments from certain people on here. The LT have been first with all of the actual not-made-up news, the interviews with real stakeholders and, most importantly, the truth on the situation

chaddyrovers Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Nicko, anything in tomorrow daily mirror paper about rovers???
broadsword Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 And come out of the closet. We all know it's Andy Cryer, but he steadfastly ignores direct questions about his identity.
