No one is going to commit 50 million to a quaint little old club in Lancashire just to sustain a dogged battle against relegation every year. For that sort of money I would want excitement and a decent spectacle every weekend. If you come away from Ewood on Saturday with a smile on your face - that would be progress right?

But surely they've missed atrick here, if the Tommy Promisers from India had bought  Becks, Ronaldinho, Adams and Reqelme for Sam and got in a few loanees like RSC, Jones and Larrson we'd be whupping the likes of Barca, Real and Inter next sesaon?

You've got to admit it though, Sams 10th last season with RSC and a couple of strong midfielders would have had us in the top 6.

Thats the shame of the whole thing to me. In their ignorance they've killed the Goose that laid the Golden egg. I guess Sam would never have been the managerial YES man that their management style <_< requires. He simply would not have countenanced losing face and reutation so frequently. Steve Kean on the other hand has nothing to lose and will roll over far more readily.

Correct! And it has to be said a lot of Asian culture is about "face"! Being seen as a failure would be a disaster for their business!

Rubbish. They only bother about cricket and betting over there. Football isn't the national sport over there by any stretch of the imagination.

Yoda.

You had valid concerns and acted in an appropriate manner by writing to the club to express your feelings. That is a good way to act.

I doubt philipl that has contacted the club with his concerns. There probably aren't enough hours in the day.

Where did Yoda say he wrote to the club Bucky?

Anyone listen to 5live this morning?

My colleague informs me that they had a little chat about us. Saying that we were having a really good transfer window and had done well to get such quality players in on the cheap.

Good publicity!

Indeed but the stupid gobbing off about Beckham, Ronaldinho, Maradona and now Requelme just invites ridicule to the club. It's bllody embarrassing. Need proof Bucky? Look at the Guardian gossip link that Philip posted, when you've done that peruse the rest of the press and media and it's clear that we are becoming the in joke in the Prem.

There's only one way to shut 'em up though eh? Let's see if a marquee does arrive in the summer, and if so let's see who it is.

Who gives a stuff if a "marquee" signing arrives or not, if, at the end of the season the Rovers are in a better position than they are now.

You could have ten marquee signings and finish lower.

So what's this issue?

'THEM' IS NOT NOT NECESSARILY BRFC.

It's always been like that!

JACK LEARNED A LESSON THROUGH THAT AND IT NEVER HAPPPENED AGAIN. HE GOT RID OF A NOVICE MANAGER OF LITTLE REPUTATION AND REPLACED HIM WITH ONE WHO HAD. QUITE THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT HAPPENED HERE. VENKEYS MOB DO KEEP PUTTING THEIR HANDS IN THE FIRE DON'T THEY?

btw the caps were differentiating, not shouting. Proper shouting is below.

IT WAS A DIRECT RESPONSE TO GORDON'S POST ABOUT THE GUARDIAN MOCKING US WITH REGARDS TO TRYING TO SIGN A MARQUEE PLAYER.

Not so tough was it?

It's a Wenky's thing obviously Dave. Last thing I want is some fading superstar with his best days long gone who couldn't even find Blackburn on a map. Has anybody on here stopped to think that if Requelme was any good he'd be signing for a top proper club?

A marquee player is by definition a player of immense talent and popularity.

Dave, could you explain to the owners why you don't want such a player in the team?

Because that player might not improve the team or might even make the team worse ?

Because the player might cause resentment in the squad owing to his huge wages and probable showboating ?

Because the manager might not want the player and might resent having that player foisted on him ?

Because the money would be better spent on 2 or 3 younger and hungrier players who would actually make a difference to the team ?

These things are not difficult to work out.

You're still top of the pops on the board over the past 24 hours.

Keep up the good work.

And we weren't ridiculed before? The Guardian still call us BlackEye Rovers from time to time. The amount of stick Fat Sam got for his expert/Real Madrid comments were well justified. We were ridiculed when Jack was here and we were buying everyone when we clearly DID have the ability to attract the biggest names in the game. It's always happened and it always will. It's called banter.

The reason why we get ridiculed the way that we do is because we are seen as an irritant to the established tropes of the bigger clubs, punching above our weight as we are. The article yesterday was positively seething at the prospect that little old Blackburn Rovers should even DARE to show an interest in such players. The most patronising thing I read all day.

Yet, on the Blackburn Rovers FANS messageboard there are people defending it! I know what worries me more.

Football has always have a rich vein of humour. If a few people taking the mickey from time to time embarrasses you that much, you support the wrong club. You probably follow the wrong sport.

Would Tottenham get as much stick for being linked with all of the above? Of course not. Do they get stick for publishing DVDs of their first team beating Arsenal's youngsters, of course!

Some people on here are so desperate to find a stick to bash the owners with it would appear they've lost their sense of humour as well as perspective.

Not content with being a troll and a wind-bag you're also now turning into a condescending stalker.

Having said that,I'm enjoying the image in my head of you and theno as unlikely bed fellows. The post-coital politics chat will be 'interesting' if nothing else...

theno is correct, I did not write to the club

I wrote direct to Venkys, they were the ones getting it wrong not the club

What?

Venky's are the club. That's what I meant. You wrote to the people making the decisions.

Semantics

calm down calm down

I wasn't critisising, just pointing what I did

Venkys are not the club, they are the owners.

I did not belive the club was in the wrong, thats why I did not write to the club.

I am not 100% convinced Venkys were wholy making the decisions at that time either.

thono obviously spotted that I did not write to the club.

I would much rather the club spent its time, effort, energy and money trying to attract the best young players than looking for a big top signing of someone who is making a last financial hurrah.

Surely the way to raise the profile of the club is to have first class training facilities, progressive & innovative training methods, and a superb management & coaching team. In short have a reputation for being a well run club that plays good football and develops talent.

I can't see too many pluses in having a player in the squad who earns four or five times as much as everyone else and who is the owners favourite. Beckham's early days in the states is a good example.

I think some of us need to realise who has bought the club and why.

The club was on the market for several years, no suitable sugar daddy type owner was found. Nobody stepped forward with the intention of buying Blackburn Rovers just so they could own Blackburn Rovers and see it do well. A shame, but now that is the reality.

Given that staying with the trust was clearly not an option as far as both parties were concerned, seemingly the only viable alternative was ownership by another entity with similar and/or aligned but not identical interests.

Venky's for the most part want to expand internationally. They want to raise awareness of the Venky's brand. That is more important to them than winning the league cup, though clearly doing so would be more of a help than a hindrance. Having a successful football team is just as much of a help as getting relegated would be a hindrance. So in those respects, the goals of the two entities are aligned but they are absolutely not the same.

Venky's are willing to spend £20m on Ronaldinho as opposed to three other players because the kind of exposure they, and the club, but mainly Venkys, would get would by and large work out to be a suitable return on investment for Venkys, intangible though it might be.

This should be rather obvious. They said as much on the day the sale was completed. Randy Lerner, does not have a brand to promote. The consortium behind Sunderland do not have a brand to promote. Neither really, do the Glazers. Neither does David Sullivan & David Gold. Those kind of owners can and will act differently. What works for them will not necessarily work for us.

Venky's plan is going to rather different and all the more scary and risky for it but when it came down to it, it was the only credible plan that came in and put the cold hard cash on the table. For whatever reasons, the fairy godmothers Shah & Syed did not want to wave their magic wands despite given every opportunity. So we are where we are.

If Venky's want to spend £20m to get everybodies attention and at the same time don't neglect the things that will continue to make Rovers a Premiership football team, that is fine. Having two budgets to that end is a perfectly logical way of going about it.

That in a nutshell is why so many people were outraged by the sacking. You may remember that I referred to myself as an anti-samite when he was appointed but I forced myself to like him and it worked (sort of). Now I have to learn to love a new regime..........mass poultry farming (yuk!) and the perception that we are a rich family's latest plaything. But hey, if I can learn to love Sam, I can forget all my new misgivings every Saturday and focus only on the match??? Just like the good old days when we never gave a toss about anything else.

As for Kean, I haven't had to force myself to like him. He seems to be a genuine breath of fresh air. He has tried to educate the new owners; here is a quote from his latest Sky interview:

On his transfer business, Kean said: "I don't think a marquee signing will happen.

"I spoke to the owners and said I think it is better if we don't have that speculation and we process who is going to be available.

I also think he is making the team more entertaining to watch. Read den's review of the Liverpool game; that's what I'm talking about!

Early days but I think I detect a slight wavering towards Stevo........am I right?

I think you are spot on, and that is exactly how my feelings towards Sam were. I have never really liked him, or his style of football, however at the time he was the right man for the job, and brought back some stability to the club, after Ince, and our star players been sold off, and not been replaced.

For the majority of his reign as manager I lived in Sydney so didn't get to any games (apart from the pre season friendy tournament over there), however watched the majority of the games on Foxtel (sky) as they show all the games over there. Watching games with mates at time would be nothing short of embarrasing, with some of the negative tactics we employed, and games would peter out into a bore draw. however I would point out our acceptable leauge posistion and the lack of funds we have had to bring in players, when clubs around us had been spending.

Sam deserved a chance to prove himself in the january window, and be given until the end of the season, however for the wrong or right reason he wasn't allowed this chance.

When Kean was announced as caretaker manager until the end of the season, I was completely shocked and concerned for the future of our club, however for a man who seems to be constantly under the gaze of the media, looking for him to slip up, been accused of stabbing Sam in the back, and the allegations of un-rest in the squad he has so far done a pretty good job. He's trying to get us to keep the ball down, and pass it, and is looking to bring in young players with excelent technical ability (the barce boys & Formica). Our senior players have made it public they want to stay, and morale is high, and he is trying to move on the dead wood.

Time will certainly tell, and I will judge him completely at the end of the season, but so far so good.
