The end of the transfer window. A fair few people were going to judge Venky's now rather than jumping the gun half-way through. A summary: -

Two loans, both experienced players who can make a difference. A striker and a midfielder which is two positions we have been crying out for.

Two young players purchased for a total that (allegedly) exceeds 6 million let alone 5... Again, a striker and a midfielder and the midfielder is apparently ready to play.

Two exits. Both of expensive, talented but somewhat erratic players. One who is only on loan and is a quality player, the other who is a mercenary imo.

Not bad really is it?

No, not bad at all.

Seeing Tom Finn with Formica was as pleasing as anything Ive seen this month.

My hope for any takeover was a bit of financial muscle to aid the excellent administration of the club.

Venky's calming themselves down in recent weeks has soothed me and if the money will keep on coming then the future could be bright.

Think this is a very good post.

For me it wasnt a hunger after becoming Man City/Chelsea with all their millions, but to have some financial strength to be able to buy some potential youngsters and keep the pride of lancashire progressing. I hope you show Venky's that you appreciate what they've done and I hope all the negative rumours which have been destroying this MB the last month goes away.

No, its not bad. Can't see how anyone could think otherwise. Less of the circus stuff which came to nothing would suit the type of club we are though.

Let's sign them up and then do the talking.

Agreed. The most pleasing thing lately has been that there's been less media hullabaloo surrounding the club and the owners and more business being done.

Spot on.

Great window for me, Kean showing hopefully that you can buy emerging talent, rather than buying journeymen, time will tell on that one though.

Hope the fans give the young lads time, coming from Barca B and Argentina respectively, means they'll not be in tune with the rough and tumble of the Premiership until probably next season.

How people scoffed at Ms Desai when she said we could challenge for the top 6 this season with a 5m investment and loans.

Obviously this has still to come to pass (we might even stil get relegated) but a lot of people are going to have a lot of egg on their faces.

An Indian businesswoman could prove that she knows more about football and BRFC than half of our fans, and im loving it.

Yeah you, by the bold statements you are making above.... Talk about set yourself up for a fall, you've all but assured yourself we'll finish top 6 with that post.....

I hope we can finish top ten again, top 6 no way and people were right to scoff at that statement. This year's league is the closest it's been for ages and there are still a number of clubs below us who have a game in hand.

A win tomorrow would be massive but it will come down to whether Spurs continue their crappy run or use as their springboard for a comeback.

Steve Kean on SSN, just confirmed Phil Jones has signed a new contract, as has Chris Samba and Mark Bunn. Excellent news. Just need to tie Hoilett down on a long term contract now.

As far as i'm aware from reading Kean's quotes and the LT that Hoilett wasn't mentioned as one of those players who they were looking to offer a new contract. I really hope this isn't indeed the case.

That would be most contradictory to the apparent strategy and faith placed in him by sending Diouf away. Presumably Larsson's anticipated summer arrival doesn't have anything to do with things (steady, conspiracy theorists). Perhaps he's on a similar deal already? Anyone know for sure?

Ms. Desai knows more about business than most people, I'm sure. And I suspect that she's a bit of hard headed and pragmatic, which should fit in well with JW. I hope they hit it off.

Howwould it prove that Bucky?

It shows she is a risk taker, the risk has a good chance of coming off, so kudos to Mrs Desai.

However, the Rovers fans that have seen similar moves midseason end in disaster and did not want the same for us are hardly idiots.

If you laugh at somebody's ambition and they go on to realise their ambition, you are the fool not them.

Are you saying that most mid season appointments end in disaster? Arsenal and Man Utd would disagree

It's not a gamble it's decision making. She felt that our long term vision was more important than short term survival with Sam. So did I, as did many others.

Many people on here said we would be relegated without Sam. I hope this is proven to be false as I always believed it to be.

I'm not sure whether or not this is the right thread for this [i don't want to start a new thread for a simple question (okay; 3 questions - nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! ;) ), to which someone on here may well know the answer].

In one of the threads last week, someone wrote that they thought that our link with Cercle Bruges no longer exists.

Now that the furore over the transfer window is dying down, I thought I'd ask does anyone know if that's so? And if it is, does anyone know the rationale for the decision to break the link? For example, don't Man. United still have a link with Royal Antwerp which allows them to "blood" younger players and "park" younger players from abroad who wouldn't immediately qualify for a Work Permit?

Well, if we get relegated (which you appear to think s a possibility) no-one will have more egg on their face than you!

I think many people feared that sacking Sam when Desai did would be a serious risk to our Premiership status and a needless one. I don't recall anyone saying we "would' be relegated. Its you making the big calls!

There were plenty of people talking about relegation when Sam went. It wasn't without foundation either. After the Stoke game, which we were bullied out of, I posited that we might not win a game until after the Liverpool one simply because the squad was decimated by both injury and under-investment in previous years. In those circumstances, I would certainly not have backed Kean, at the time, to survive 5 straight defeats on the bounce.

As it is, we beat West Brom and Liverpool without new players and the rest is history but I recall stronger opinions than that at the time for sure.

The table is so tight that a lot of things could happen but we've an ok-ish run of games coming up and I'd hope we'd get a couple of wins from those. If that is the case, relegation fears should indeed be dispelled. If not, it could be quite a nervy finish.

For what it's worth, I don't think Mrs Desai knows a great deal about football and I wouldn't especially credit her for a better than expected finish. What Venky's seem to be at least, is decisive, which is better than the opposite. I think we'd just rather they be a bit clearer about what they want to the fans. It wasn't Sam, they made a decision, fair enough. They live and die by it. If you compare that to the farce with West Ham and O'Neil the other week I think I know what I'd prefer, whatever happens.
