My daughter interviewed the real chuckle brothers this week and said they are very nice, so don't compare them to our clueless owners

Sorry but the Brothers instructed Kean to work on passing in training, 'to you' 'to me'

  • 1 year later...

You really are a soulless bunch. Nothing quite says 'Sky-era soccer fans' like the way you've rolled over so quickly for these guys.

Ditch over a century of tradition for a PR gimmick? No problem, whatever you want Mr Venky sir. We'll ditch the blue and white and play in chicken costumes if you like.. if you think it will raise your profile in India sir..

You bang on so much about your proud tradition and then toss it away for some two bob Indian chicken farmer's marketing stunt. Two years from now you'll be watching Balti Rovers at the Venky's Stadium and telling yourselves it all makes sense in the modern world. Enjoy the ride, indeed.

Ouch.

Thought it was a good time to re-visit this thread. I'm sure there's a lot of interesting comments in it.

Interesting looking back at old posts....

I've just re-read Kamy's OP.

Anuradha J Desai, chairperson of Venky's, issued this carefully worded statement following the purchase:

"We are delighted, proud and humbled to be associated with Blackburn Rovers, a team with whom we share many values and ambitions. Going forward we plan to focus on leveraging the global influence in establishing Blackburn Rovers as a truly global brand. We will absolutely respect the Jack Walker legacy and will be actively supporting the organisation to ensure that Blackburn Rovers remains one of the best-run clubs within the Premier League. We are particularly pleased that the deal has the full support of the Walker Trust, the chairman and the management team, who will of course remain in place with our full support.

"Blackburn Rovers is an historic institution that has won the Premier League and we want the fans to embrace us so that we are able to do our best in the interests of the club.

First of all, ho ho at the bit in bold.

Second, I can't help but think that, in the words of Jarvis Cocker, "Something Changed".

It seems the only thing they haven't reneged on is removing Jack's statue.... yet.

So we finally have new owners.

Well since everyone's talking about what they plan to do first, I reckon it will be heated seats in the directors box.

Well the seats in our directors box certainly got HOT.

Mate go down the supermarket, buy a large bar of soap and shove it in your gob. Even in jest somethings just shouldn't be said.

At the end of the day they know that if they are going to sell the club further a field, then having entertainment value will be required. Sam's proven he's capable of getting us playing decent football and with a few quid to spend perhaps we can carry it on for a bit longer. If with a few shrewd signings he can at least match last seasons finish, he should be given the opportunity to try out his plans.

One thing that I am worried about is that as Sam is out of contract in the summer will he be allowed to sign who he wants regardless. Will anyone else have some input IE the advisor's? What happens if opinions differ.

With reference to the contracts being up in the summer, there's a lot of them. Replacing all of them and still maintaining some sort of team cohesion will not be easy.

Guess what happens when opinions differ is someone leaves.

I hope Sam will put Mrs Desai right and explain that his is a results business first and foremost and "entertainment" is a bonus.

Bloody woman never got one decision right.

Mrs Desai sounds like she knows the score and I am glad she is involved.

.

Whoops !

Why not back him now. He is in the job now. Rovers are 11th, which is not bad considering the injuries Rovers currently have. Added to the lack of transfer activity last window. Try asking WHU how they feel towards their new owners and the team and situation they are in. Bet they would like to swap with Rovers if they could.

Whoops again.

Her [Desai] hands-on expansion of her family business means she is not going to be taken for a ride by anyone. We could be very lucky here.

Ditto

I can't help but have the nagging doubt that this takeover is the beginning of the end of our time in the limelight.

Spot on matey. One of the few to see right through them from the start.

Whoops!

Jim, a lot called it right, a lot more, called it wrong. But this messageboard is littered with people caliing it wrong from time to time, me included. Where is imy9 by the way? (and yes, I did check what I posted in this thread before asking!)

Most of us took them at face value and believed what they said. I guess we wanted to believe what they said because we wanted it to work.

Can't see there's anything to be ashamed of in that.

I turned the day they sacked Sam which I think was the first real sign that things would go badly wrong.

Many took this as a positive move and they are really the ones with egg on their faces.
