[Archived] a Fans Protest: "Taking Back Ewood"

Recommended Posts

I realise that there are one or two "lets give the Venky's time" folk out there. It would be intersting to know how long?

There are also a large majority who are very very concerned that the heart and soul is being ripped out of BRFC by those who have no knowledge of football nor the vital role of fans.

I have followed Rovers for 46 years and this is the most depressed I have ever been, and I have had much to knock me over in the roller coaster of Blackburn Rovers.

I suggest that we wait until mid-January to see if the Club is still in crisis (both on and off the pitch), but in the meantime plan for a massive fans protest linked to a home game in late-January. I have some ideas, but need to measure the likelihood of support.

Talking to Ste B at Ewood on Saturday we both said that BRISA was never going to get off the ground in 2005/2006, the club looked after us and every penny that was avaliable to John Williams for the squad- he used it.

However, now is a time that the club needs an independent voice, the Fans Forum will no longer suffice. We need a voice to talk to the media, to arrange any protests- if necessary of course.

The whole fabric of the club (in my opinion) has been or is in the process of being destroyed, one of the best run institutions in the game is now a complete laughing stock.

Does 5 million (believe it when I see it) make up for this past week?

Agree with what you say Matty. BRISA was a great idea but the timing was wrong and we were too focussed on constitutional and policy issues.

This time we can campaign around and focus on one ot two core issues; we could even take the name of some of rovers own marketing such as "Taking back Ewood" or Football is for Fans".

Count me in, let me know what WE are planning, we do need a strong voice here!!

A protest is eye-catching - but first is it not a pre-requisite of effective resistance to be clear about the objectives of a such protest ? What is the desired end game ? Without clarity of purpose it's doomed to be perceived as rabble-rousing I fear.

Reading this board confirms a wide spectrum of opinion - what is the consensus view of a realistic & attainable ultimate objective here ?

A protest is all well and good, and giving it another month or so to see how things go is probably a good thing...

Any protest, big or small, should not interfere with the support and backing we give to the players and manager... a negative atmosphere inside the ground is good for nobody.

Ben is spot on in his comments about supporting the team. Venkys need to know how we feel as fans but I agree with the sentiments that we need to give them a bit of time to see what they come out with. Middle to end of Jan should give us a few weeks to see what statements they come out with.

I wonder what affect the Newcastle fans protesting against Ashley has had?? Or the recent rioting by the great unwashed over tuition fees?

Surely the best course of action is to get behind the team and the caretaker manager as after all you can only [erm no, just no] you have got

I agree 100%, I did suggest giving it until mid-Jan, and it is not aimed at the players.

I think we should wait till January is over....that way they have the full month of transfer availability to show us some positive signs. Aswell as deciding our manager.

At the end of the day they now own us...a protest wont achieve much...its just like the Glazer mob.

Its a time to show your support for the club & stand up and be counted....not protest!!

I'd say it is time to support the team JW manager Etc but as in supporting the club you support the owners.

Until their objectives are made clear, I find that hard to do.

I'd agree mid January their plans should be much clearer.

Well said

I wonder if Phillip would be there if any such protest took place, given his stance on Venkys I would have hoped so........

I cant agree that Venkys should get any time at all. They needed to hit the ground running and so far all I can see is fire fighting.

I really hope that Venkys turn out to be great owners, but while there is the slightest possibility that they won't we as supporters need to make sure that the pressure is cranked up.

We should be getting behind the team at all times regardless.

However, I think February would be the time for organised protest to happen, but NOW would be the time for organising them and creating whatever independent supporters body is going to be the vehicle for it.

Count me in, if I can be of any use up here in Glasgow.

Name one premier league club where the fans have successfully ousted the owners or the board. E.G. Ashley at Newcastle, Glazers at Manchester United, swppped one set of Yanks for another at liverpool. In the end football clubs are a business and there's nothing we can do to change the ownership of the club unless the owners wnat to sell. English football sold it's soul to the devil when it created the premier league and signed up with sky.

Nobody is suggeesting that preston blue's army are going to occupy Ewood and send Venky's scurrying to the nearest helipad.

However, this is perhaps the most critical period in the history of the club and I for one beleive the fans should have a voice that isnt just a load of ponificating behind a keyboard.
