Three year deal for a manager who has done nothing to earn it ?

What happens when we're relegated in May - are the owners going to stand by him ?

Coming on top of the Ronaldinho farce and all the other rubbish that has come out of Pune since the takeover, this is getting more and more ludicrous.

Three years. JHC think I might go looking for a job in the poultry business. This should be in the Friday Funny's thread because I Can't Believe It's Football...........

There just seems to be a complete lack of rational thought. Before the West Ham game he was appointed manager for a few weeks, then after the West Ham game he is appointed for the season, then after the Sunderland game he gets 3 years.

The steady hand of JW is desprately needed but it is unlikely we are going to get it.

Not saying he's deserved it, but wouldn't it help signing players when they actually know who'll be in charge after the summer?

"Player: So, what's the plan for the club? Where do you see it going?"

"Manager: Well, I'm only here until the summer, so I can't really say..."

Most have agreed he at least talks a good game, so if he can give the potential new arrivals a good spin on his and the clubs long term plans, they might actually be more eager than if he was only here for 6 months.

The name Steve Kean probably doesn't attract players, but just get them in the room with him and he'll get them hooked ;-)

The more I think about it, the more it has to be about stability and being able to bring players in. A man on a 6 month contract is unlikely to be able to convince a player he wants to come to the club because that player will think 'You're not going to be here next year, what happens to me then?'. It is an odd way of doing things though. Venkys have gone about this entire process arse about face from sacking Sam to appointing Kean. Frankly, I STILL think they should have had someone lined up before sacking Sam even if that was giving Kean the job permanently. Naivety at this level is bound to cause major issues unless Venkys learn very quickly. If they are being advised by an outside agent then that outside agent is doing an absolutely shocking job...

Yes. And I would have expected him to have gained more than 4 points out of the last 12.

As the season unravels it will become clearer even to the blinkered that the decision to sack Sam was a colossal mistake.

I agree that getting rid of Sam mid-season was ill-thought out. However - I am not as certain as you that we would have gained more points under Sam. Though we won 3-0 in our final home performance under Sam - there were enough worrying signs to show that things weren't right and injuries were starting to take their toll. Add to this that Jones was a star player under Sam's tactics - and I do wonder whether we would be any better off.

Whatever the rights or wrongs - Sam has gone - and we need to get behind Kean - or at least give him the benefit of the doubt until he has had chance to put together his team (or at the very least has a reasonably healthy squad to pick from).

I thought she said he'd get 3 years at the end of the season. He has to make it there first.

I've listened to her interview again and Mrs Desai states quite clearly that Steve Kean will be the manager beyond this season and that they are making what she described as a "proper contract" for two to three years. I think it's now vital that he gets his own backroom staff in place as quickly as possible. In many ways that will be just as important as the players that he signs.

No argument from me there on getting in the backroom team. Will be very intrigued to see who he appoints and what their background is.

I'd like to think they would be in quickly and before the weekend as I'm sure they said he was being allowed to start looking.

oh dear, do shut up woman...like to know her thoughts at the end of the month.....so,so much riding on guarenteeing a win against wba this month anything less and i think she may get a much needed thumping great dose of reality.

wish she would just spout the truth that she likes him because he says yes a lot.

Ooooo, have you been in on the meetings then? Do tell ... :glare:

this would'nt happen anywhere else and should'nt be happening here, fella goes from 3rd in line to top billing whilst they supposedly looked for the right man then shows nothing in 4 games in charge and suddenly he is the man for 3 years do me a favour.

could'nt care less about meetings on the pitch is all that should matter and i have no idea why she is gushing over the fella.

sod it over the rights and wrongs of kean being manager probably won't be long before the brothers start picking the team anyway...saying they're marquee signings play regardless

This is the problem - it's a bit like when Jack took over and Don Mackay was trying to sign top players.

If we really want to sign these type of players we need a manager who has a cat in hells chance of attracting them.

Wow - just love the way Rovers fans get behind the new manager. After 4 games he has picked up 4 points - dealt with an horrendous injury list - and had little time to instill his playing pattern on what is one of the busiest times in the football calendar - and yet he is the devil to some Rovers fans. Sorry just don't get it - give the guy a chance.

Maybe we could take a gamble on Bobby Robson's old interpretor at Barca ? Not saying Kean will be a great manager or not - but we all have to start somewhere - and those in the know seem to rate him as a coach.
