Wow - just love the way Rovers fans get behind the new manager. After 4 games he has picked up 4 points - dealt with an horrendous injury list - and had little time to instill his playing pattern on what is one of the busiest times in the football calendar - and yet he is the devil to some Rovers fans. Sorry just don't get it - give the guy a chance.

Maybe we could take a gamble on Bobby Robson's old interpretor at Barca ? Not saying Kean will be a great manager or not - but we all have to start somewhere - and those in the know seem to rate him as a coach.

I'm certainly not saying he's the devil and I really hope he does well.

I'm simply looking at it from the point of view of trying to tempt big stars.

Jason Wilcox has just been on Radio Lancs making exactly the same point, talking about how Kenny D was needed to attract the likes of Shearer.

I just find it completely ridiculous he is our manager at the moment - if you take a step back and reflect on all this it is bizarre or maybe not if you listen to our owners.

Let's hope to hell he turns out to be a good one.

Whilst its still far too early to judge him, here's a couple of observations.

we played with a much more attacking intent. At 2-0, we were pushing for a third. at 3 nil, we were still pushing for a 4th, even if samba was sitting too deep and inviting the liverpool players on. He should have been dragging the defence out with him.

that never really happened under sam, who would much rather protect a 1 goal lead.

Sometimes this attacking approach pays off and sometimes it won't, but it sure was exciting.

olson and hoillet playing with so much freedom. Very nice to see.

I wonder what the players think of kean. do they rate him? do they want to play for him? do they share his vision of how the game should be played? Time will tell, but id love to hear from any of the board members who are friends with any of the players

Steve Kean put out a team committed, confident, ready to attack. Liverpool left space all over the park and Rovers responded very well, making use of the space and playing a good passing game.

This man sent me home with a huge smile.

Absolutely elated for the manager, club, players and fans.

However, I attempted to keep a balanced opinion during the bad times and I'll try to do the same here. This Liverpool side are dreadfully out of sorts. Taking nothing away from Rovers though, they can only play what is put in front of them and the opposition obviously contain players of real quality. I was enormously fearful of a poor game with Kean's side still trying to find their feet and one moment of quality from Torres and Gerrard doing for us. Amazingly awesome to be surprised.

I hope if nothing else this encourages Kean to stick with what he's trying to do and augment that with sensible reinforcements. We might lose a few games along the way but we'll win more too, all at the expense of some tiresome draws. No bad thing, it's 3 points for a win for a reason.

If we can get some real solidarity at the back, then we'll really be cooking on gas. I hope Kean is able to bring in some assistance with that immediately.

Crucial however to back this result up with a few consistent performances to finally put the issue to bed. The results will come if we do.

Well done Kean for getting a great response out of the players. I'll keep a level head about all this until we're another 5 or 6 games down the line. So far we've lost to a couple of tough, well organised teams and beaten a couple of teams who are clearly out of sorts. Kind of the form we had under Sam really, albeit we've been doing it by playing attractive attacking football.

All you can go on is the information put in front of you, and right now I'm feeling optimistic.

As for attracting big players? Do we really need a 'show us your medals' type manager? Gone are the early 90s. Players don't respect former players just because of what they've done on the pitch. Sure, it helps, but give me a good tactical nouse and man manager who knows how to get the best out of the players he's got. (you can include Sam in that category before somebody points it out).

If anything, it's those managers who played at the top and won everything there was to win who have the most clashes with the young over paid premadonnas of today. Just thinking about it, how many of them are managing in the Prem now?

I can only really think of Hughes, Mancini, Bruce then at a push Di Matteo and McCleish

oh and Ancelotti (he just doesn't look like one)

Superb result last night, Kean got tactics spot on.

It was exciting to watch, when we went 1-0 up I thought we were going to sit back and defend but instead we played counter attacking football.

The last few weeks has been crazy but Kean has been calm, composed and in control and the players are behind him because they gave absolutely everything for him.

Well done Keano !!

Steve Kean to be handed long term contract this week. JW handling the contract discussions. Good to hear Venkys are using JW to handle these thngs.

Once upon a time, new contracts had to be earned. Not even the most optimistic of us could believe that he's done that after what - 4 games?

Agreed. Why the rush? If things look positive in the summer, take negotiations from there.

Also, any long-term deal for a manager these days is a waste of money & paper.

One of two things is happening here.

1] Venky's, who know nothing about football, or football management are making the decision based on goodness knows what, - a hunch?

or

2] Someone is pushing Keans stock.

Which one is it?

Can't blame the guy for pushing for an improvement when a change of ownership takes place can we?

Have seen it myself a few times, new owner/manager comes into an environment and dynamics change, allegiances crumble and new ones forged, if Sams face didn't fit, or he butted heads with the new owners Kean might have simply seen an opportunity to move on up.

Can't blame someone for showing ambition...fair play to the guy, a few more results like the Liverpool game wouldn't harm him either...

the guy hasnt even earned the right to be the manager and now they want to offer him a long term contract? hes a nobody who wont attract any decent players, the venkys are clueless muppets who want a 'yes man' in charge.

All very true and has been apparent for some time, but be careful or you will be accused of having an "agenda".

It was also reported that Kean flew to India off his own bat when he took over from Sam to talk to the new owners about their plans (and agree the terms of a long term contract) so why didn't he also fly to Brazil to talk to Ronaldinho ?

Introducing himself to Ronaldinho might have impressed the Brazilian and swayed his decision but more likely Kean knew the whole charade was a non-starter from the beginning.
