XLM Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Nelsen is a decent guy and quite intelligent so what better way to sing the virtues of Keane, the new owners' golden boy, whilst also trying to secure an improved contract! Do you also believe that man has never been on the moon? Seriously not everything has to be questioned. It's tiring.
BuckyRover Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 He contradicts himself. If Nelsen is "decent" he won't be lying to the media for a few extra quid.
braddock Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I'd hate to live my life being as negative as some of the people on this board. I bet Mercerman rolls his eyes and tuts during orgasm.
92er Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I'm surprised that after a month people are still struggling with his name People still make mistakes with Nelsen's name.
BuckyRover Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I said the other day that Mercerman was a claret but he proved me wrong by telling me he went to the Chelsea game. Egg on my face

Valois Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Nelsen is a decent guy and quite intelligent so what better way to sing the virtues of Keane, the new owners' golden boy, whilst also trying to secure an improved contract! Ryan Nelsen has been a great servent to our club. If he is offered a new imroved contract, it's for his performances and service to the club. He certainly doesn't need to sing the virtues of Kean (note spelling). Questioning the motivations of one of the most honest, decent, and true professionals in our squad. Tut tut Move on from BFS, seems the majority of our squad have, and are embracing what Kean is trying to acheive. Isn't it time we all did?
Sverre Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Why wouldn't there be good harmony within the club? - I'm sure the Blackburn squad are very happy with Roque being back in the club, especially those who played with him last time. These are predominately the "veterans", and I believe them to have great impact on the younger players. - I'm positive that the players are embracing the new type of football we are playing. - > When I'm playing football with my mates, I'm having a much better time when we are passing the ball fluidly and creating good chances as a result. Surely this can also apply for the professionals ? Football that is entertaining to watch is also more entertaining to play! - The fact that Robinson, 31(?), wants to extend his contract also indicates that something must have gone in the right direction. I wouldn't mind us extending Nelsen's contract either, he has performed well as of late. - According to Nicko, Samba has wanted out for nearly a year. - Through MGP's blog it is evident that the players are in a good place. "This is a picture will joy a lot of people. Roque Santa Cruz back in the Rover shirt, I know I like it a lot and I really looking forward to be playing football with him again." - M.G. Pedersen "Today we signed Jermaine Jones on loan from Schalke 04. He is a midfielder with good qualities which I am sure will give a new dimension to the team. Jermaine went with me to training today so I got some time to get acquainted with him driving to and from training and I must say that it is a very nice guy that comes to the club. From what I saw in training today he’s a good footballer as well. Now it is not much to see a player on one training where we play 5-a-side, but I liked what I saw. So let’s hope he’ll be a hit and that he will strengthen the team. " - MGP If Pedersen was unhappy about the current affairs of Blackburn Rovers, surely, he wouldn't have written and posted positive glimpses into the life of a Rover? All in all, I think there is no point in panicking.

For the sake of the club, I sincerely hope that Kean proves to be the dog's b's. My point about Nelsen is this - he's 33 with, I think, at least 2 years to go on his contract. I do not think that we should be diving-in offering him either better terms or an extension. We should be waiting at least 12 months and seeing how the 'old legs' are moving then. I think either Nelsen or his agent are playing a canny game here and know that the club are a bit vulnerable from a PR angle; by Nelsen getting a new contract, it serves the club's PR well and suits his pocket! Let's not be too naive. Robinson getting a new contract is a no brainer. At the top of his form and least 5 years to go.
John Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Nelsen is as loyal, to the club, as they come - he is always pretty positve, even remember him, at one time, speaking highly under the mangagement of Ince!

Mercer Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 You could be right. But do you know this? No. So don't say it as fact. I'm not saying it as fact, however, if I was Nelsen's agent then I would see the opportunity and act; not to do so would be a dereliction of client care duty!

If you wish to turn every positive to come out of the club into a negative to suit some sort of agenda feel free to continue. If money is his motivation, wouldn't he be better served looking for a club in the middle east? Especially with all supposed the doom and gloom behind the scenes. I'm pretty sure any footballer would be delighted to actually pass the ball on the ground in training, rather than focusing on hoofball every week. I prefer not to be called naive , it's a tad patronising.
deftangel Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Pedersen has always been positive in his blog posts and it's nice to see.
Mercer Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 If you wish to turn every positive to come out of the club into a negative to suit some sort of agenda feel free to continue. No agenda. My only hope is that some day, Rovers will get near the halycon days of the 1992 to 1995 era. Many journalists are renowned for their 'spinning', particularly in the world of politics. In my line of business, I constantly need to use SWOT analysis otherwise I would very quickly be out of business! One invaluable lesson I learnt very early on in working life was to err on the side of caution and to be a tad sceptical especially when dealing with circumstances relating to the unknown or the relative unknown.
thenodrog Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Nelsen is as loyal, to the club, as they come - he is always pretty positve, even remember him, at one time, speaking highly under the mangagement of Ince! So basically we should take anything he says with a large pinch of salt.
deftangel Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Some people on Betfair are anticipating the market on "Next Blackburn Manager" to be settled tomorrow. They've asked for them to clarify it and apparently Betfair are contacting the club to do so. In fairness, some of this looks to be driven by the same media reports we've all seen about him being "unsackable" because they mention the 2 & 1/2 year contract. I'm sure there is some old fashioned market manipulation/people trying to free up cash before the weekend at play too. There hasn't been a massive pile in since Kean got back from India but you never know.
John Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I spoke to Betfair yesterday and they said I would collect my winnings once Kean has managed for 10 English games. I placed my bet a while ago though. My Santa Cruz winnings came in from Skybet on Friday
Valois Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I spoke to Betfair yesterday and they said I would collect my winnings once Kean has managed for 10 English games. I placed my bet a while ago though. My Santa Cruz winnings came in from Skybet on Friday 3 more games to go then. I'm pretty sure there will be announcement later today he signed a long term deal on his trip to Pune, I think your bet is pretty safe. What odds did you get at the time?
John Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I put a few bets on at different times on this one because was not sure how big to go intially - odds were around 1.89. Due back £400 overall from the Kean bet(s) plus a decent sum from the Santa Cruz one. The market never seemed to react when it appeared obvious (maybe just to Rovers fans) that Kean would become manager (at least until the end of the season).
moerpho Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Kean our manager for the next 2 1/2 years - http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Steve-Kean-has-become-Blackburns-full-time-manager-after-a-whirlwind-visit-to-India-to-go-through-his-plans-with-the-clubs-owners-and-will-soon-welcome-Argentinian-attacking-midfielder-Mauro-Formica-from-Newells-Old-Boys-in-a-complex-loan-deal-article677099.html (That is a looooong link....) Judging from what has been on display lately and the obvious intent from Kean to play good football I think this will turn out just fine. For the doubters - probably should've gone for Dalgliesh instead, huh? Congrats on the contract, Kean!
ada2020 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Fingers crossed this puts the maradona rumours to rest. Well done Steve.
philipl Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Very interesting comment that talk about Maradona will end. We will see if that is the case.
John Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Forgetting the manner in which he may or may not of got the job, Kean is obviously now our manager for the foreseeable future. Very early days, however he has made a decent start taking into account we’ve had a few injuries – it will be interesting to see how he copes when things become difficult in relation to his man management skills and keeping to his principles in playing the game. He does seem very knowledgeable and does speak very intelligently - will also be interesting to see if he plans to expand the backroom team/sports science dept (sports science dept is currently well staffed). Given who Venky’s main adviser is, and the way in which they want to run the club, Kean is probably a ‘good fit’ moving forward. Let’s hope he turns out to be a goodie!
