Let's get this correct, as nicko explained, Venky's sacked Sam when they did because they hosted a society party when we played away at Old Trafford.

Given a choice of games to show Rovers off, who on this MB would have picked Man U away???

And by the way, my post is being misread if you think I dislike Steve Kean- that was actually a call to support him this Saturday if you would care to re-read it.

Point taken.

I wouldn't choose the away against United to show off, but I can certainly imagine the inner pain and embarassement of Sam's team that day. That day goes down as one of the worst days of 2010 - no doubt.

I was becoming almost suicidial and have had to deal with all my united supporters repeating it since.

Hmmmmm I wouldn't present what Nicko says as fact, lets be honest, he gets his info from someone else, who probably gets his info from someone else and so on.

These are probably the same people who told Nicko that Chris Boyd was a transfer target.

If you expect me to believe that anyone really knows the ins of Venkys, I wouldn't believe, they are their own animal and in bloody India.

The next few weeks are crucial for Kean. With Rovers being out of the FA Cup he will now get the opportunity to spend some quality time with the players on the training ground. After tomorrow’s game he has 2 weeks to prepare for the Villa game and then a clear week to prepare for the Fulham match. After that he has 2 weeks to prepare for the Blackpool game and then a further 2 weeks to prepare for the Arsenal game. During one of the two week breaks in March there are some international matches but the vast majority of Rovers squad will still be at Brockhall.

This now gives Kean the opportunity to get the players onto the training pitch and start to get his philosophy across to them. I would hope that by the time we get to the Arsenal game the hours spent on the training pitch will have started to pay dividends. At the very least we should be seeing a Rovers side playing the progressive style of football that Kean desires, much more organised defensively and a settled formation.

Now if we take Venky’s words at face value then Kean is in a unique position that regardless of results he will be given time to get this right. despite what Venky’s say Football is very much a results business and the game against Newcastle is definitely in the “winnable” category so a negative result could see fans turning on Kean.

He should be starting next season doing this not trying to do so whilst avoiding getting dragged into an end of season relegation scrap. Note last year that as soon as we got to 40 points and mission was accomplished that Allardyce threw the shackles off the players and we ended the season in fine style and playing more adventurous football.

For a club like ours that would find promotion well nigh impossible should we go down safety should always come first... and it isn't doing.

Somebody needs to remind Kean that we did bag three goals against Wigan...

Kean

"Results have made this match much more important, because each time you play well, like against Tottenham and Wigan, but you don't score goals, then you bring pressure on yourselves when you come into another home game."

He probably meant that we didn't capitalise on the chances created, and as as a result didn't score enough goals to secure a win ;)

otherwise, you're right

Playing the way we are, we're going to lose some games and win some games. There probably won't be too many draws. We need to win 3 to stay up. On another day we'd have beaten Spurs and blown Wigan away in the first 20 minutes.

With Roque back and hopefully a good week on the training pitch developing control over our attacking intent, we should be in a good spot to play a little less loosely and be more clinical up top. Benjani and Diouf both missed shocking chances last week that can ill afford to be missed if we aren't water-tight at the back.

A clean sheet tomorrow would do us all the world of good.

Works both ways though. On another day West Brom could have scored several. That goes for both games we played against them.

I really don't feel comfortable trying to outscore the opposition in open games. Most teams have better strikers and better creative midfielders than us, I think we'll lose more than we win.

Read somewhere that our conversion rate of shots to goals or whatever is higher than any team except Utd. Just shows how few chances we are creating generally

Interesting Kean's comments last week when he said the way we play now we are likely to concede goals (in the confidence we could out score the opposition).

he does make worrying comments doesn't he, maybe naive. I'm not sure if he has an option but to ascore more then the other team based on how he got the job.

It's probably fair to say that if not for Blackburn and due to his failures as assistant manager, he would have never become a manager of a PL team.

Hence, he better not f this up.

Anyway he might work out, we will see.

For me, we act now and secure the services of either Sven or Martin O'Neill. Either of them with a little bit of money to spend will get us top 6....with this guy, we're gonna always be looking over our backs. It can't end any other way than a failure, Kean just isn't big enough for what we need right now, we might aswell sort it now.

No chance. Sven is doing well where he is and wouldn't come and O'Neill was available before and wasn't wanted/wouldn't have come or whatever. Besides he wouldn't necessarily do well at our club and also needs money - wastes a lot if Villa fans are to be believed. Insttead, how about we give our current manager a chance - if he ever reads any of the message boards at the moment, he'd doubt his own ability to get out of bed, let alone manage a football team.

Good post. Kean was put into the job all of a sudden, without any warning. If any of us were in that position we would take it. He has now been given a chance to be a premiership manager. He needs support and not people on his back. Guidance and not moans and groans from supporters. He also needs time - which carries its own risks - but it is something the owners have given him and we should do the same.

Kean is here for the duration we have to get used to that, we can't keep letting winnable games slip by us though and really we need a result at either Villa or Fulham to stop the rot.

Kean needs to adopt the approach Hughes did at the beginning of his reign.

Get the defence sorted, stop allowing the opposition chances and possession. Build from the back, when that is sorted we can think about being more expansive on the attacking side.

If he wants to play 4-4-2, that's fine. But do it properly, none of this stupid, shapeless diamond crap. If he thinks we can't afford not to have bodies in the middle (I assume that's what this diamond thing is all about) then go 4-3-3.

this might sound crazy but is he allowed to do that?

Never mind Hughes, that's what anyone with half a brain would do.

You lock the back door first off.

Did you see today's game?

We had loads of (ineffective) bodies in the middle. Hoillet, Dunn, Jones, Nzonzi and no width on either flank.
