[Archived] Steve Kean

We signed them 2 weeks ago! They should be ready within a month, ANY foreign player who has not played here will struggle initially anyway, I am more concerned about the players who play regularly who have lost form at the moment.

The problem for Steve Kean now is that after disposing of a good manager and assistant for no performance reason other than boring football, the crowd has the smell of manager's blood on its breath and will expect the Venky's to be equally ruthless with him and Jensen.

I know I have equated him with Ince in terms of today's performance but there is no forced drinking and lads culture, no dramatic falling of fitness levels nor any sense of the players not willing to put themselves on the line for Steve Kean.

Clearly he has to massively up his performance after today's Ince-like cluelessness but we should cut Steve a lot of slack and see what the performance against Arsenal looks like after a six week semi-mid season break interrupted by only two games.

This is Steve Kean's mega chance to make his mark on the squad and we should see a fully functioning well-oiled machine in all departments at the end of March.

2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, they still wont be good enough Imy9, and more importantly every player at Rovers will know this further dispiriting them.

Nine points from now until the end of the season cant come quickly enough.

+1 Phillip, if after 6 weeks we don't see a major improvement in both performance and points then Kean should be held fully accountable and no excuses given.

Jal- why won't they be good enough? Potentially both have masses of promise.

If you're physically weak to begin with, then thats a massive mountain to climb in this the big boys league.

Carlos Villaneuva had bags of talent, unfortunately he wasnt strong enough to strut his stuff here in the premiership.

Time is up after what is it a dozen games? Less than a third of one season. Even Ince got 17 pl games! He has got a three yr deal he is not going anywhere.

Wiser people on here were calling for Ince's head long before it was chopped off. The longer you leave it, the harder it is for a real manager to sort out the mess.Soon be Easter.

Good post. Kean was put into the job all of a sudden, without any warning. If any of us were in that position we would take it. He has now been given a chance to be a premiership manager. He needs support and not people on his back. Guidance and not moans and groans from supporters. He also needs time - which carries its own risks - but it is something the owners have given him and we should do the same.

Generous----to a fault.

Then the idiots who employed him to manage Rovers must GO !

How do you know the two new lads wont be good enough? Silly comment

May not be the best case to prove a point but Pedersen spent a good few months being strengthened before making an impact on the team

Ah fair point mate, I would think they have been signed with next season in mind, maybe we got ahead of ourselves thinking survival was in the bag this year :S

Rochina can't be much more lightweight than Niko looks though so if he has an eye for goal throw him in.

Fully agree with this, I like what I see, he is inexperienced but I will almost put my house on us staying up, we just need consistency, but that is hard to do with a team that is full of inconsistent players.

Players might be on more money now and new contracts - however it still remains almost unexplained how the good coach Steve Kean is now a manager. Cheers Jerome, can I get a slice?

Yep, an interesting turn of events. Unsettle the squad, and offer 4-5 of them more lucrative contracts. Give the coach a 6 month contract and bump it up to a 2.5 year one needlessly and then see what happens.

can't see kean being on massive wages, or enough to make sacking the hard choice but i think the position of gormless yes man is one the agents would find hard to replace. See what the next 4 months bring but i would be staggered if he was manager when the summer starts.

I have been staggered at lots of decisions Venkys have made, dont underestimate their naivity!!!

To be fair to Kean, I've been impressed by what I've seen from 2 of his 4 signings. Jones was one of our best players yesterday (not saying much) and, if fit, Roque is our best quality forward. So unlucky to rattle the post with that header.

We seem to lack balance with having to play Olsson at left back due to Givet's absence. For some reason yesterday seemed all about attacking through the left wing (when we actually had the ball to attack). Not sure if this was to expose Danny Simpson as a weakness or to attempt to keep him pegged back to avoid exposing Olsson. With a proper left back in place, we might have a better shape and the tactics might be more effective.

That said, Kean doesn't seem to have a plan B when things aren't working. First half we were shocking and our passing was as poor as I've seen it. Maybe the players are used to wwaiting for the ball drop out of the sky rather than zipping along the turf to their feet. This is where Diouf was an asset as the ball would get to him and stick rather than bouncing off or being 'hot-potatoed' to the opposition.

I'm giving Kean more time before getting on his back. Definitely need to get Formica fit and see what he is capable of - if not Rochina too.

Finishing 17th after a rocky transition season (putting it very politely) might have to be swallowed and we push on in the Summer. If we get better than 17th then fine but if Venky's are good for the money, the extra cash for higher places shouldn't be as critical as it once was.

Don't know if anyone saw goals on Sunday but allardyce alluded to being stabbed in the back by Kean.

Think we know who stab him in the back.

Big Sam on Goals on sunday on Sky sports. Big Sam ask to leave in the summer to go to Dubai. But John Williams said no. he wanted to leave because of the uncertain about the club being sold. No Stabiliy at the club when the new owners. BUT HE DID NOT WANT TO JUMP SHIP AND SHOW SOME LOYALTY TO ROVERS

He had a good relationship with Walkers trust and John Williams.

he was shocked and stunned by getting the sack.

He spoken to Kean a couple of times but hasn't recently.

And miss that sweet pay off?

Fool!!! Big Sam with some proper cash could have got us top 7. Not going to get that with Kean in charge.

Big Sam is one of the best manager to keep teams up in the PL and look at what he did with Bolton. Got them into the top 7 twice and could have done this with rovers.
