[Archived] Big Sam for Burnley

Recommended Posts

Being reported that we've made an official approach for howe. Rumour is he's flying up tonight and could be unveiled tomoro.

Ah so you two willl be Claretsmad posters? Makes sense

Funny really, so far Burnley have confirmed an approach for one manager, sky have reported 3 or 4 approaches. I recall when we appointed Coyle they had us appointing around 5 other people but I don't think they got close to the Coyle link until right at the end.

I suspect Howe will be unveiled as Charlton boss in the next couple of days.

I'll be honest I don't think he has enough experience for us to be taking the gamble on him but most of all I don't think he will move North, not for our job anyway

If you read Brendan's book you will see you did come close to naming five other managers...

Until you got lucky.

Very lucky.

Or was it just Steve Cotterill's team and a few lucky breaks...before he left when the team was on the slide and running out of ideas?

I can't remember.

1...Howe met you after meeting Palace...he even told Palace what he had been offered by Burnley in comparison to them...then he buigged off to Charlton for talks...while waiting on a call from ANOTHER CLUB...avoid.

2...Lambert used you...but you made an approach...bad behaviour on his part.

3...Mackay was contacted very early...seemed interested...agent went to meet you and found out the figures...seems to have coolled since...

4...McInnnes may be a good young manager...better than Coyle?...you ouldn't be bitter now, would you?

5...Big Sam...if you wait long enough he may come to his senses and realise it is the perfect fit...and Mrs Allardyce might agree too...Liverpool passed him by...West Ham is no better than Burnley...Villa? I doubt it...so it's the Turf or the desert for him....he would be wise to choose the former.

Just to be clear, my Coyle comment was tongue in cheek because he got St Johnstone promoted. Bitter? yeah a little but nowhere near enough to be blinded to what a brilliant manager he is. Been telling anyone who'll listen that Liverpool should be on the phone to him already. You only have to look at how quickly he has turned the Bolton cloggers into a footballing side to know what he could do with a serious team like Liverpool.

I don't want Howe, I suspected as much with Lambert (I actually thought we might be using him to chivvy MacKay along to be honest). I wanted McInnes from the off but it has never looked likely. Big Sam is a tricky one but we've got one season after this to capitalise on our prem money, I'd take it if he wanted to come - hell who'm I kidding, I'd probably bite his hand off.

My point though is sky were never close to guessing at Coyle. Like I say nicko, I'm not doubting Coyles ability at all, don't forget I lived through those months as a Burnley fan and boy it was some ride.

Occasionally read claretsmad, never post. Too much bullcrap on there. I too have reservations about howe. He's never spent any money so we've no idea how he would spend our transfer budget in january. Would be a big risk. Mackay would be a safer bet but doesn't seem like he's interested. McInnes my number one choice.

any ideas as to why bigsam's not interested ? waiting for a prem job or doesn't like what we are offering ?

Sam had his name put in within an hour of Laws going. Burnley came back at him from all angles and wanted him. He was in Dubai at the time and 'chilling' with the missus. He wanted a bit of time to think it over. Then he thought he might get Liverpool.

So, who knows, it might come back round.

It is and was the perfect fit.

Sam all over is that. I'd love to have seen the Liverpool fans faces if he walked in through the Anfield doors.

Sad thing is he'd probably do a job there, but if the Liverpool fans didn't like Hodgson's brand of football.......

Mind he must really be oblivious to his image if he seriously thought he'd get the Anfield reigns?

Nail, hit, head

Can you imagine the first time he told the Kop "I am the expert, not you"?

And the first time he dedicates a win to himself but blames defeats on the team

I don't believe Sam will get another Prem job for a while. Unless WHam become very desperate. Even then they won't put up with him for as long as we did.

Deluded

Did Liverpool seriously consider him or was it wishful thinking on Sams part??

Sam thought he had a chance...kind of hinted as much in a post on Friday...he switched from Sky show to ITV to be at the game in case the job was available and he could appear to be an expert.

So wishful thinking??

I would have loved to stick two fingers up at Liverpool fans who slated Rovers because of style of play!! All I can say now is that Liverpool seem to be copying Blackburns managerial appointments!! ...............oh and 3-1, 3-1, 3-1, 3-1!!!!
