The signing of Ronnie is an exciting prospect. Maybe the money would be better spent on a few younger players as people are saying. However, Venky's have bought Rovers to raise the profile of their brand. A World superstar playing for us would do this. Him or Beckham would create worldwide publicity for Rovers and for Venky's.

If we fail in getting Ronaldinho, I wonder if they have someone else up their sleeves?

I really hope we pull this off. I can’t believe that anyone at all could possibly think signing Ronaldinho would be a bad thing. He was widely regarded as being back to his very best last season and at 30 years old, he’s still got plenty of life left in him. The amount of people who are laughing at Rovers, both in the media and at other clubs, is astonishing. They’re all going to look very silly if we do see Ronaldinho in a Rovers shirt. In my life time (I’m 26) – he’s probably in the top 5 superstars of World football. He’s won two La Liga titles, the Champions League and the World Cup. Just look at his personal honours – Don Balon Award twice, Fifa World Player of the year twice, UEFA Club Best Forward, European Footballer of the Year, FIFPro World Player of the Year twice, UEFA Club Football of the Year and he’s still only 30 years old. If you’d have told me 12 months ago when he was starring for Milan that he could be a Rovers player in a year, I’d have thought you needed sectioning. I’d be excited if Ronaldinho was going to Chelsea or City – just to see him in the Premier League. The fact that Venky’s are dreaming big enough to attempt something this audacious deserves praise. So much for Boyd and Geovanni.

I don't want Rovers to get a transfer ban, points deduction and a fine but believe me, we are being run by Kentaro. Our boy in Brazil or Venky's boy in Brazil is Kentaro's boy in Brazil- that is what agents should do for a club.

But the rest.

If you want evidence, take a long hard look at everything that has come out of the Rao family so far and ask yourself, if JW and the board are not running Rovers (they are not), the first team coach now 3 year manager is a proud Kentaro client and the Raos are clearly totally out of their depth, then who is running the show?

Phillip, Roberto has named the guy and said he is NOT from Kentaro, yet again you are stating things as facts when they are clearly not.

This is ridiculous. £20m would be far better spent strengthening all areas of the pitch rather than signing one player who may not have the legs he used to. Sounds like John Williams and Steve Kean have had no say in this whatsoever.

You really think JW and Steve Kean would oppose this move? Tugay was 30 when we signed him, he didn't have the legs he used to when he was in his mid 20's. He was still a maestro though. Anyone not being excited at the prospect of Ronaldinho signing for us need to take a long hard look in the mirror. Bonkers.

Looking at the contract he would be offered, my mind will only be at ease if the brothers confirm it would be paid out of their personal funds. Otherwise we could very quickly hit a Portsmouth situation.

Nicko has stated that this is an outside project. The list Kean submitted is not affected by the Ronaldinho situation.

It's called realism.

Why get excited over something that is not going to happen?

At least that thread proves you have it in you to dream like the rest of us, whatever you think of the Ronaldinho bid ....

A summary of the interview with Mrs Desai aired on Sky Sports this morning at 6 am. I'll be including it in the digest, but it may be useful to have in here, too.

****************

Desai Interview

Mrs Desai was interviewed by Sky Sports at the family home in Pune. Asked about the future of Steve Kean, she described him as "positive" and someone who "thinks well". His reward will be "a full-term contract", also described as "a proper contract", which "should be at least two to three years".

The Venky's chairwoman also confirmed a "bid" of 7.2m euros for Ronaldinho and that negotiations were ongoing, but that there were two rivals for his signature. It is unclear at present, however, whether this figure is the amount bid to his club, AC Milan, or whether it is the amount offered to the player and his agent. In addition, they are looking at "a couple of other players" and "thinking of getting Damien Duff back", although it is not clear whether Fulham have received any official approach from Blackburn Rovers Football Club.

Finally, in response to the question of the influence of SEM in their dealings, Mrs Desai acknowleged the help of SEM in the negotiations for the purchase of the club, but denied any "undue influence" on their part since the takeover.

Sky Sports, 4 January 2011

"Blackburn Rovers owners and Venky's chairwoman Anuradha Desai say they're fully behind manager Steve Kean and intend to offer him a longer contract at the end of the season."

Venky's commited (sic) to Kean

Why even mention it as a possibility then?

Your ramblings this morning have suddenly switched from being comical to quite dangerous and poisonous.

I don't think you have yet grasped the fact that The Rao's are entitled to run the Club how they see fit having paid 20m for it - not JW or the Board.

Instead of posting innuendo, please provide one scintilla of hard evidence that Kentaro are running the Club. And, no a drunken comment from RFW about his pal doesn't really count.

Does Jerome Anderson even know where Ewood Park is? Didn't Kentaro reputedly want to keep Sam for the time being? Why is our list of transfer target's basically the same as Sam's? Where are all Kentaro's clients on it?

That's the perfect thing to say IMO. It looks like they're trying to give the club some stability, but only offering him the new deal at the end of the season.

I can't get the sound on that interview to work - think it's my laptop playing up. But what's all this crap and hysteria on here about Kean having already got a new 3 year contract? Doesn't the interview say they're only thinking of giving him an extended contract at the end of the season?

Isn't that clever man management and an incentive for him to do well? We all know he'll be down the road if he doesn't get the results!

Correct. Future tense is used - this is their plan.

People saying the money would be better elsewhere is a moot point. Thi isn't a normal signing it's a Rao brothers pet project and as it's their money they can do what they like with it.

Still hope it somehow crazily comes off!

Thank you for clarifying that. Here is the snippet to go with the video at this link;-

I haven't watched the video yet. If nobody has posted a transcript by the time I have, I will.

It's a lot easier to debate the merits of our owners if we debate what is actually being said. ffs. Not that they are helping themselves but "Kean has got a 3 year deal" appears to be taken as fact already when this may not be the case.
