Roque has a track record of never staying fit, risky signing, especially if he can't get on the pitch.

He has been fit this season, just not playing - maybe that's why ;)

When fit he would easily be our best striker though, and he would definitely suit the lone striker role better than anyone currently on our books. Not sure how eager I am for Rovers to sign him on a permanent, but he's a strong signing in our quest for a top half finish - we do desperately need to add quality this window.

That is a bonus too.

However, if you put the Old Gentleman's Persuader down long enough to watch football you would know how good he has become since he left Rangers.

He got Blackpool up with his goals and displays, I saw them often enough. He was magic. He is also a leader and a strong individual. Had the balls to take his own club on for a bonus he was due.

Would have him in a flash.

Got to agree with that. And it uses up a loan.

Who else is available on loan in the PL? Jo?

If those Indians had any knowledge of what we need then how about waving all that silly money allegedly put aside for Ronaldinho into the face of Scott Parker's agent?

Excellent suggestion, but would WHU even contemplate selling especially with them seemingly on the up slightly?

Well for starters Simon, was the situation that I described right or wrong?

I'm actually surprised at how you have jumped into bed with Venky's as well Rev. You used to give the trustees and John Williams [who did a brilliant job], a lot of stick on here, and now you're looking at the current dabacle through starry eyes.

Can't work that one out.

Didn't you use to have a signature (or someone had one that quoted you) along the lines of "buy Championship quality players, you'll end up in the Championship"?

Well that never happened, despite the best efforts of various managers in the last 10 years. Or was this a long term prediction of Ronnies arrival and your assessment he's not of Premier League player?

Oh, and no, I don't think he'll turn up at Ewood. But for all the years of down playing expectations, under spending, and signing Keith Andrews, just tabling a bid for someone of Ronaldinho's stature - regardless of how weirdly they did it - must generate a degree of positivity ?

The Trustees left the place as nicko says "in a state."

Drove away a brilliant manager in Hughes and through year after year of underinvestment left us eventually with no midfield and a strikeforce of Kalinic (who you don't rate), Roberts (who was 3rd or 4th choice a few years ago) a loanee and Benjani (least said about him the better)

Spot on

I said at the outset Roque is a risky proposition given his career injury record. Being fit but not playing this year does not fully reduce that risk. As long as other signings are made, and ideally another striker would be one of them, then on a loan it is not a bad option.

If he's the only front player that comes in and he gets injured then we are back where we started with Niko isolated.

So in a way, if Ronaldinho is the cherry, Santa Cruz should be the icing. We need to sort out this midfield first and foremost. If it was me, I would be sat outside Blackpool's training ground with 10% on top of whatever they want for Adam with a car to drive him to Brockhall for afternoon tea.

Well for me the big difference between Rovers and Bolton game this year was a certain Kevin Davies, wounder if Coyley will let us have him on loan?? ;)

Out to 9/2 in the betting. Has something happened to suggest he's going back to Brazil?

Thats been the case from the outset (going back home). Unless something happens to suggest he's coming to England, everything is the same as it was supposed to be.

Only just ahead of Liverpool!

Aren't they waking up in Brazil? Nothing will have happened over there yet today.

Rev we know you have it in for the Trust and the LT.

For me, the big issue on RSC is the medics report. Interesting his name is not attracting the same abuse as it did when it was raised during Sam's time as boss.

I agree with this. However, it must be said, it is not 100% the trustees fault that subsequent managers opted to ignore the midfield problem and spent the little money they had somewhere else. Allardyce probably planned to bypass it completely, but we had opportunities to shift the likes of Andrews & Grella, midfield players purchased by Ince and they weren't taken.

Those two alone cost £5m. Allardyce signed three right backs. Some of the blame has to lie with them.

We'll end up with a cake covered in cracked icing and a cherry on top that's bigger than the cake.

Why are you trying to divert our attention onto RSC, nicko have you heard something negative about Ronnie the Rover?

I find it amazing that nobody even gives a toss about the Roque thing which is probably nearer to happening than anything else.

I do! If it's the RSC who Hughes made to look worth £17m with a David Bentley style player supplying the bullets - GREAT NEWS. If it's the one who is nearly always unfit, not scoring etc. etc bad news, a waste of a loan and wages.

I'm not excited yet, older and wiser, but will be IF we can sign Ronaldhino, Beckham etc. plus the players the side desperately needs. I very much doubt he'll put 10,000 on the gate, regardless of all the maths you've had thrown at you, as I can't see 10,000 Rovers suddenly being prepared to stump up £30-35 to get in the ground. Now if he comes and we sold 10,000 half STs - FANTASTIC. I remember the buzz of players like Archibald, Moran and Ardilles arriving and would be very, very happy to feel that again.

Equally it truely concerns me that we might offer Ronaldhino £20m over three years. Would this really be private money from the Raos? I can see a situation several years down the line where this club has debt issues and suddenly we discover the £20m spent on a player of this stature wasn't privately financed at all. That's the problem with getting older, one sees consequences in everything one didn't see as a young man. If they come it will be very exciting but tinged with concern.

Good post, I think this sums up most Rovers fans views.

Yes, every chance. As I understand it he will be arriving on a big golden chariot pulled by twelve flying white horses. The driver will be Owen Coyle, who has agreed to be Keen's assistant. Davies will be sat alongside Ronaldinho, Beckham, Messi, Torres and Tevez. There are all going to buy adjoining terraced houses in Darwen.

Bloody hell lads and lasses! I've been reading this thread over the last couple of days in increasing wonder. Everybody laughs when Newcastle United screw up their club and supporters yet again, of course we do. But I now see a large number of supposedly hard-nosed Rovers fans (not all, it must be said) on here blindly ignoring the Venky's terminal ineptitude in football club governance.

THIS WHOLE SORRY MESS WILL END IN TEARS.

Shouting "lal la la" at the top of your voices will not make it better. There's too many posts containing the phrase "Let's hope that..." on here for it to be healthy.

And before anyone says it - many Bolton fans would be reacting in the same stupid way if we were in your current unfortunate position.

I've tried to let you down gently - but it's not easy.

Good way of putting it. I remember Bradford and Leeds!

If he signs for us, I for one will stop going until he leaves or gets injured :angry2:

Wouldn't it be sad if we miss out on Ronnie due to media coverage. Most reports today are about our owners are now a laughing stock, would you want to come to a team like that?

They're only a laughing stock if he doesn't come, or he comes and it all goes totally pear-shaped. If he does come and even some of what they hope for comes true then it's their detractors who will be the laughing stock.
