[Archived] Blackburn Rovers v Liverpool

Well done Rovers, good to see pace in the side and a bit of football.

Long may it continue but it needs to be more than just tonight, push on as this league is so tight at the minute and we have as much chance of Europe as getting relegated!

Grrr... Alan Curbishly just described Junior Hoilet's amazing run for the 3rd goal as........

"Another bit of bad defending by Liverpool." GOOD GRIEF!

Grrr... again

Is that the Alan Curbyerenthusiasm who has been on the short list for every job for the last four years. Been in meetings all day and I am feeling ###### without touching a drop after reading the thread.

Do you think the Venkys have supernatural powers of seeing into the future a season, and they are just playing with us.

Sam's main legacy is having the team be in the Premier League in the first place.

I'm having that. Did a great job in keeping us up after Ince for me.

Love the bloke as a person and a personality. Have grown to hate his style of football with a vengeance.

It's a bit early to talk about brave new dawns but by Christ I've waited years to see a performance like that from a Rovers team. Don't want to over-egg it, let's face it Liverpool were poor, but the way we tore into them from the off with pace power and precision was fantastic to see. If this is a taster to what we may see in the future, we're in for some good times for sure.

Entertaining, winning football eh? Bloody hell.

Prior to the game, with 9 or so out - I thought a point would be a decent result, but expected Liverpools win against Bolton to give them confidence to beat them.

Well how wrong could I be - we played 4-4-2, wingers where given licence to attack with pace & both strikers worked as hard as possible.

Olsson MOTM for me - superb goal & also played a part in 3rd goal...he also whipped in some lovely crosses

Hoilett - Superb run for the 3rd, and unlucky not to add a 4th. Ran at his man more and more as the game went on - best game for us so far.

Benjani - tried all game & murdered the greek centre half in the 1st half...took his chances well & great 1st goal....showed his goalscoring ability if fit

Mame - Superb....none stop running, great awareness of other players & quality control when pulling the ball down to send Olsson clear....SIGN HIM UP

Salgado - None stop, top pro, bargain signing.

Rest of the team - solid & did very well.

Liverpool - as poor a Liverpool team as I can remember at ewood.

FANTASTIC RESULT - WELL DONE STEVE KEAN & the team.

would take that performance than any other in the last 2 years

ball played on the deck more, was worried when i saw our centre midfield like.

well done to kean exploited there weakness at full back, couldnt handle our pace.

well done to the boys it really looked like everyone wanted it!

Ive taken a quote from Skysports from a Liverpool fan calling for Roys head but it highlights were we may have had our dillusional moments, in the last week and maybe today from a fantastic attacking display not seen at Ewood for a long time with 3 quality goals from open play, it highlights that some teams supporters live in the past and feel they have a god given right to be sucessful:

"NESV please bring in a manager thats going to bring in a stlye of play like we used to have in the good ol 80's"

Sorry mate the 80s are gone and the game has changed, I genuinely think sacking Roy Hodgson and putting Kenny in charge will relegate them. Scousers would hate every minute of it but they need a modern manager who knows the league as it is now to get results, Big Sam for me there or O'Neill.

True, "first place" was probably wrongly used.

But you get the picture.

Yes, sorry I was being flippant.

Anyway for some reason I genuinely feel sorry for Roy, seems like a top bloke who has taken on a team in decline with expectations above their station from their arrogant fans.

Good luck to him wherever he ends up

I feel sorry for Roy too. I don't believe it's his fault that things are going badly. I suppose he shouldn't have ditched Fulham though.

Before the game I noticed he went over to Kean and said some encouraging words :)

A stark contrast to the ungentlemanly conduct by Gerrard at the end of the game.

Well I wasn't expecting that.

What a night, what a performance, what an atmosphere, great.

I never thought for one minute Kean could get a performance like that from the players he had available. Well done Kean and well done the players. I also saw Samba give Kean a huge hug after our third (as someone mentioned earlier).

Never sung that much nor jumped around that much for ages.

Hey nicko I'm getting the feeling Coyle might get overshadowed by Keano.

It feels great to be a Rover tonight.

Today, I was impressed for the first time since Kean took over. Proud to be a Rover after that performance. Our attackers seemed to be running rampant against the Liverpool defence.

It was nice to see the recently underperforming players put in a great shift. Givet looked back to his solid self, Pedersen showed some brilliant skill and technique, Dunn was actually threading some nice passes through and Benjani grabbed 2 goals.

On the subject of Sam, I think his legacy on the team is evident. I think we've been lucky to have some great managers in our time like Souness, Hughes and Allardyce. Each of them has contributed to the squad and strengthened it. Kean can now take over from where they left off and send us upwards. If we get the right signings in, then a top 10 finish is likely.

Benjani offered to swap shirts and he pushed him away.

Nice making a fellow professional look and feel like crap in front of the cameras.

What a moron. After today's performance, it should have been Gerrard begging for Benjani's shirt :tu::lol:

For heaven's sake, praise through gritted teeth from the pro Sam brigade.

Last night was nothing like a Sam performance.

Players passing to each other on the floor, knowing which positions they should be in and running into space to receive passes. Plus using the full width of the pitch.

Having watched the extended highlights on Sky I have to say I'm thrilled with that performance, not just the win. To see Rovers actually playing football was a very pleasant change.

What's going on behind the scenes at the club is quite frankly barking but that result tonight will give us all a lift that no fat Brazilian money-grabber could.

Surely not coming to Rovers is a sign he isn't a money grabber?

My favourite quote of the night.

Yes, yes, yes........that's what i noticed. What a refreshing change it was too.

It does.

I was discussing that with my mste coming off the ground and notwithstanding Hughes' success I don't think we've played football as exhillarating as that since the early days of Souness before he completely lost the plot.
