tonyoz Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Samba has been a huge player for us for a number of years - my favourite player in fact. We are a much poorer team without him. Let's hope he sees the light.....I think he will.

Torgeir Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I was being a sarcy git. Aye. Third beer washed that radar away.
tonyoz Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Doesn't it seem a bit surreal to have Villa fans come on here to discuss who they might give us for Big Chris? Maybe I'm dreaming?
Backroom Tom Posted January 6, 2011 Backroom Posted January 6, 2011 Samba isn't a £20m in the real world but in our current situation we don't need to sell so in a way could slap a high price on his head unless he really kicked up a fuss. If we were taking anyone from villa I'd like Ireland myself.
Ricky Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I'd still rather take Curtis Davies as part of a swap deal. I would have thought that would suit villa more as well. If he plays another game for them it triggers a new lucrative contract so they want him off the books. He's still young and captained every club he's played for.

Steve Moss Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Apologies for lateness. SAMBA... Villa want him...Collins is the most attractive makeweight offered and valuations are being discussed...if Samba wants to go that looks his likely/only destination. ROQUE...Man City playing hard ball over the loan...hopefully they play hardball until February. I agree about RSC. Why would we go for him? He was a constant nuisance with his Paraguay radio appearance, we've made some money on him and let's move on. As to Samba, if he wants to move we should let him. But 8 million seems low. He's at least 10-12 million. It would be interesting to consider if the Rao's have another marquee signing (not Beckham, no chance) up their sleeves. The idea, in of itself, to get a player in that excites the fans, has a bit of razzle dazzle, raise our profile outside the UK and naturally by extension do it's bit for the Venky's brand is not a bad one IMO. WIth the usual proviso it doesn't interfere or come out of the budget for "proper" signings, as it were. I'm just struggling to think of alternatives? At least realistic ones. Best I could come up with is Raul, which is a bit weak really but probably achievable with a big wad of cash. My preference would be Landon Donavan. But his value is in North America and Venkys seem to be focusing on South America, with the Maradona and Ronaldinho efforts. With that in mind, and assuming that Venkys will spend big bucks, I wouldn't mind if they bid on Diego Forlan in the slightest. And you're mentally deficient if you think tonight "proves" anything. Like I said, full credit to Kean, I think in this particular match we did better than we wouldve done under Sam. It also fills me with much more hope than I had before. But things get proven over a whole season. Remember how Hull and Burnley played some great football and beat the big teams? How did that all end again? This is true, but today's performance was exceptional. If they can duplicate it on a regular basis, we'll be top half. If it is a one-off, we'll struggle. Time will tell, but I'm cautiously optimistic that Nicko is right and Kean is a jewel.
deftangel Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Bit harsh that Rev on Tom. Just giving his considered opinion! Will assume that's tonight's antics talking. I would describe Villa as a pretty risky step sideways right now. No more, no less. The league is tight enough that a couple of wins changes everything. If Samba is adamant about getting away he's best waiting till the summer where he'll probably be able to still choose Villa amongst a couple of options should he desire with a better feeling for where they're at.Of course, I would much prefer Chris to stay. Hopefully he will. I have resolutely never rated Dunne as being much cop at all. I'd be mortified if he came here with or without anyone leaving.

Could be us under the Venky's???? Can't see it being Villa.
John Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 From Kean's comments, central midfield and defence is the priority so suggests loan move for Santa may not be likely
Sandman Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Nicko, That Rodrigo Moreno looks a real talent at Bolton, any chance your mate will be keeping him?
Mc Love Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 If we were taking anyone from villa I'd like Ireland myself. Ireland is a crock of you know what! Stay well clear of - he didnt cut it at City and cant even cut it at Villa Only player from Villa I would be interested in swapping for Samba is Dunne
Bobby G Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Defence? Unless we are selling someone, we are covered in that department.
steo Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Ireland is a crock of you know what! Stay well clear of - he didnt cut it at City and cant even cut it at Villa Only player from Villa I would be interested in swapping for Samba is Dunne That's absolute bull,he was man city's best player last season,he may have problems off the field but he is a class player. he was forced to go to villa as part of the milner deal. i'm irish too and think he's a complete p***k for turning his back on his country but he will regret that one day.
Bobby G Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 2 seasons ago (Ireland). One good season in his career.

ROQUE...Man City playing hard ball over the loan...hopefully they play hardball until February. MILITO?...new one on me. How's the 'sack the board' thing working out? And the inexperienced puppet got a result tonight I believe. Gabi M was my shout two days back! He's got a balky knee, but a decent CB who's in the 25-28 yrs. old range....
Miker Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Ireland is a crock of you know what! Stay well clear of - he didnt cut it at City and cant even cut it at Villa Only player from Villa I would be interested in swapping for Samba is Dunne Eh I think you got it all wrong. Dunne is the one who could no longer cut it at City and is now horrid for Villa as well. Ireland was City's best player prior to their "money revolution".
steo Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 2 seasons ago (Ireland). One good season in his career. He's only 24
blue/white Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Doesn't it seem a bit surreal to have Villa fans come on here to discuss who they might give us for Big Chris? Maybe I'm dreaming? You call it surreal... I call it delusional! I agree about RSC. Why would we go for him? He was a constant nuisance with his Paraguay radio appearance, we've made some money on him and let's move on. If Venky's want to remain focused on S. America dare i suggest Kun Aguero? or Diego Milito? or Lucas Barrios?? 'Jaws' Suarez? or maybe Esteban Fuertes (I jest, I jest) Samba deserves top 4 at least really. Could be us under the Venky's???? Can't see it being Villa. Agreed, MON sailed away on that boat. Villa are stuffed
Mc Love Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Ireland - I still rather we dont sign him, he couldnt bother to play for his own country, his former club and now his present club, is this the type of player we want at rovers?
Iceman Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 we only 2 points off 7th and i think 5 off 6th? that top 5 could still be achievable, if Kean can bring in a few quality players. If he brings in crap though, then we could be dragged into a battle for survival. crucial times ahead
Seggie Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Gabi M was my shout two days back! He's got a balky knee, but a decent CB who's in the 25-28 yrs. old range.... Could Nicko not mean Diego Millito? Doubt it but that would be Marquee
Fylde Coast Fan Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Could Nicko not mean Diego Millito? Doubt it but that would be Marquee The Mirror story he's talking about is about Gaby Milito (who's 30, not 25-28)
Bobby G Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Milito is excellent if fit. I hope Samba stays for the season. No point joining a sinking ship. Kean saying he wants 2 or 3 in (a player in each line). Roque, Adam and a defender?
