[Archived] Transfer Window Part 2

Recommended Posts

Samba has only just signed a new contract (last year I think) perhaps Venkys should offer him an improved one with a nice signing on fee to go with it and state their intentions to him. Im sure he would sign the dotted line then

Thats exactly whats required, we'd not be able to replace him for the money being talked about, so lets get him signed back on please Venkys.

Funny you should say that, was asking myself the same question!!

No, I actually think Samba really does want to go so it's not a question of money from Rovers. If you give him 2.4 million to cover his bit of the transfer fee in addition to upping his wages to top -say Villa wages (Houllier is in a fix and will try and buy himself out of it) it would upset the wage structure at Ewood completely.

The Rao's do have enough, but that's not to say they'll spend it. I think they will and will spend a lot. It's the bit's in between which might be uncomfortable.

Don't know if this has been mentioned already but I've heard that there's a press conference scheduled for tomorrow to announce 2 signings

Maybe a load of rubbish, just passing on what I've been told

will that just be the normal press conference for the weekends game ????

Supporting Venkys? I think I pointed out all the way through that their info was confusing. Perhaps you were snoozing when I broke the Maradona story that was confirmed/sort of admitted/then denied. Was that 'supporting'? Or telling the truth?

Supporting Kentaro? By breaking the fact they are in tow with Venky's. And standing by that despite denials. Or breaking the fact that Steve Kean was a Kentaro client? Was that 'supporting' or getting yet another story right?

Supporting Steve Kean? I like the cut of the guy's gib. He speaks well. He is the biggest asset of the new regime. Do I like the Roque move? No, not at all. Is that 'supporting' or telling the truth?

Dying to hear your answers.

I have got a game to go to, so you have a few hours to compose.

I don't need a few hours to compose but thanks anyway. The point I was making is it remains in your interest to report favourably on events at Ewood, I have no problem with this at all but in my view it must impact your reporting. You asked the question "Am I missing something?" I was trying to point out that you may chose to ignore negatives which fans find important. The tone of your remark, "Am I missing something?" suggests all that is important is we may have a great deal of money available. In my view there is far, far more to this whole business than simply enjoying the January transfer window. I'm not sniping at you, criticising the reporting or its accuracy but I do believe it is reasonable to question it.

You must have good contacts within the club, you have to protect those sources and use your information carefully. I hear things too, not because I have an inside track but because I live locally and have a few connections. What I hear, and do not comment on, makes me very uncomfortable. I comment on information placed in the public domain by various sources which suggest the situation is very worrying at Ewood. It's my belief you know more than you publish, because you clearly have very good lines of communication. The examples you give are hardly going to damage these but you probably have other information which could. This is the difference I was trying to answer in my initial post.

I know many fans who are deeply concerned by events at Ewood Park. It is still the case we know nothing of the owners intentions and spending a bucket load of money will not calm those fears. If Venky's didn't make such a mess of the PR it would be simpler. At HT last night the conversation revolved around giving them a chance, perhaps Indian culture is different etc but concluded if this is true it is they who have to learn how to operate in our culture. Venky's were again booed at Ewood last night - this is not good news.

You urge JW to effectively get on with it. Yet we all know JW's position has been undermined, we do not know what authority he has been given. Why suggest the fault lays at Ewood? Do you know where the tardiness lays? If so report it.

Are you missing something? Yes, you are. It's because I'm a supporter and you are not. I would expect a journalist of all people to appreciate it is right to question what is written by the media, not specifically yourself, but in general.

As regards Kean, who is a very important player in all this, I like him more with each match I watch. Only the ones I watch, I've said nothing about the apparent debacle at Sunderland for example. WHU and Stoke I said little, WBA I gave a good account of how happy we were with the perfromance and result. If you check the Kean thread you'll note I've said he sent me home beaming. I haven't enjoyed myself so much at Ewood as last night for a long time. I'm growing to like this guy more and more but it is still early days.

Its a good job managers don't listen to us! We (most) didn't want Pedersen's contract to be extended--he was immense last night, Dunn was finished at this level and his legs have gone and Benjani should never play for this club again and should never have been signed!

Not me. I wanted Pedersen to sign (he is one of my favourite players), I said Dunn couldn't lose all his fitness in a year and that he just needed games and that signing Benjani on a free constituted good business and he could make a real impact (based on his cost).

Do contracts count for nothing anymore? We gave Samba a new and improved one last season, what has he done in the meantime to merit making even more (silly) money? What if he suffers a dip in form or is injured for a year, should we offer him a poorer contract as a result?

The Bosman ruling really did mess the game up.

Samba looked happy enough last night by the way.

Now other to other targets, I think last night showed what importance pace has in modern football. We have had a painfully slow team for a number of years (except for the stint we had Bellamy in our side) - let's not bring Ireland/Bentley in to play on the wing(s) and keep that pace/excitement out of the team. One or two central midfielders, a striker and a left back is what I think we need. Put a bid in for Gojko Kacar at Hamburger SV for CM, good player...

If he left for any of those 3 clubs it would be easier to swallow as it would show ambition on his part, unlike a move to Villa. We should aim to get ten million out of the big boys.

By god we undersell ourselves sometimes. No offence meant, but when some of our posters cite what they want for our players, I feel as though I could get them to sell their house to me for about a grand and a pack of Skittles.

Really? When figures of 6 million have been banded around you really think you will get over ten million for a centre half who A is not English and B does not play for a large club. Let me also add in C which is someone who has expressed some desire to leave the club.

On the whole I think I agree with tonygalesmic's comments about keeping the powder dry.

Other than Adam, the names mentioned are not likely to make Rovers stronger. In fact the likes of Duff and Roque along with the "marquee " (groan) signings smack of another ham-fisted idea of Venkys, or even their advisers, trying to win over the fans and media.

Nothing is very stable at the moment, buying a load of players just to make a show of supporting the manager or simply to prove they have money, is not a good long-term decision, in my view. The manager is hardly established himself just yet, although he deserves a lot of credit for last night, obviously.

I'm not convinced that Venkys have a lot of money, they've not spent any yet, I'd rather they weren't here, but at least last night gives some hope for the first time since the upheaval of Sam's departure.

A and B are utterly irrelevant. We got over fifty percent more than that for Duff and Santa Cruz. Yes, more forward players, but I think the fifty percent extra accounts for that plentifully. C was just as relevant for those two. I don't care what is banded around. 10-12 million is the bare minimum we should be looking to get from the mediocre clubs, let alone from the big boys. You have to play hard ball to get good prices- see Spurs.

More on Adebayor....

Tottenham and Liverpool are both interested in signing Manchester City side Emmanuel Adebayor on loan. The Eastlands side would prefer to send the Togo striker to Anfield rather than risk him finding form with Spurs, a potential rival for a Champions league spot.

Full story: the Sun

Malaga have also made an audacious attempt to land Adebayor on loan after Real Madrid cooled their interest in the forward.

Venky's have to be here. We desperately need investment. Did you see our bench last night??? Dont fool yourself, we need new players right now.

Do Venky's have the money?? Its a broken record. Do people GENUINELY believe that they'd fork out for Ronaldinho, buy a football club for £40m, commit to giving the manager £10m this window and a minimum of £5m in all future windows if they had no cash??

Duff, Roque, Adam, plus 1 more would be a decent window by anyones standards. But i doubt all three of those are on.

Venky's deserve to be judged on February 1st. They are here to bring investment into the club. That was what we desperately need. Lets see if they can deliver.

Guest Walshy

just an idea I have thought of, why do we not reward MB Diouf by trying to buy him now then that will open up another loan slot for us so as well as RSC which is looking likely we could get his pal adebeyour or somebody else that people have mentioned. Just a thought mind!!
