Ireland - madder than a bag of badgers... No ta :)

I'd take the Roque Santa Cruz who first turned up here. He was genuinely a class striker. Just watched 10 years at the top and he was the best striker we had in the last 10. Mind you Andy Cole wasn't bad... I wouldn't touch sulky Roque with a barge pole. I'd chuck him in the bag of badgers...

Duff? Hmm, great player even now but not sure how he'd fit in.

This Dutch 11 o'clocker gives a whole new meaning to going Dutch...

I think comparing football to everyday working life is rubbish as well.

I'm sure we can all draw parallels between working life and football, but they are not the same and never will be.

I don't see how it doesn't apply in this situation.

What does he owe us for exactly? We have benefitted from him in the form of having a better defence (and will likely make a profit on him when he leaves). He hasn't won a Wonka golden ticket or been on Jim'll Fix It to get a contract with us.

Am I the only one who doesn't want Duff back??

No you aren't - in the main, most people I've spoken with are underwhelmed by this. Just can't see what he can add other than experience. His pace has gone and he's so injury prone.

Wide men, we have Hoillet, Olsson, Emerton, EH Diouf plus others who can fill in there.

Just don't get it, or like it!

Can't see Parker coming to us, get the impression he likes it in the capital and kind of enjoys trying to be the hero at West Ham.

I'm surprised we've not been linked with Sidwell, thought he might be a valuable addition to the midfield. Ireland, I like him. He was very good at City, perhaps their best player roughly two years ago, seems to be unsettled in Birmingham, a move back to the North West perhaps?

O'Hara is another type maybe. All rumours going round and round, not much happens in January and I can't see us bringing in too many players this window.

Duff, he's had his day. I believe we're better off with Olsson on the left wing. Olsson's quick, gets up and down the flank to help the left back and has proved he's got a very good cross on him.

When you put it like that I think we should sign him.

Immediately. I like lunatics.

Ireland and Barton. See you in the Champions League lads.

More likely prison, in my opinion, in Barton's case.

I can't believe anyone would want Ireland to be honest. I don't think we'd see a team ethic like last night if we started drafting in players with his temperament. I'd rather have Joey Barton, at least he gives his all on the pitch.

Barton, coward and a bottler -remember the regular no shows against Hughsey's hard bitten midfied with Savage, fit Dunn, Tugay, Reid etc. If you want a footballing idiot Lee Bowyer is better on both counts. We do need a fit CM though. but he doesn't play there anyway.

. . .

Roque - been there done that got the cash thanks and goodbye - too many injured at Ewood as it is to take a risk. How many has he played dince he went?

Bentley - as Roque - remember - 'I've been working for ages to engineer this move.' (To Spurs)

Not really impressed with any of the other targets although Adam is a great footballer.

If we can pay 7m for goofy I'd pay £8m for Scott Parker and send a message to Samba etc that we mean business.

Ireland - Phew! that's scraping the barrel too. Complete balloon. Always available. Needs a minder too.

Scott Parker

Ashley Young

Kranjar (can't spell that one!)

Fred Piquonne

Then were in business if Sambaman stays

I agree with the Prof., 100%.

We don't need basket cases disrupting the squad and handicapping our peformances on the field. The club needs steady, disciplined and talented footballers, like Parker and Adams, or someone of their caliber and character. Our objective is to go up the table, not hemorrage cash.

Venkys needs a celebrity or two for marketing reasons. Maradona was not sensible, Ronaldinho still had some juice and was sensible.

From what I've read, Ireland, RSC, Barton, Bentley are either unfit physically or disruptive influences or egoists.[1] So they fail the first criteria. None meet the second.

[1] If RSC is truly fit, I'd give him a shout on loan. But the medical team should check him over with a fine tooth comb. Bentley would be excellent, if he can swallow his pride which I cannot see happening.

I'd like to tie Hoilett down to a longer contract soon, he seems to be developing into the player we have been missing for years and could negate the need for a new right winger.

I'd be delighted to see RSC back but this part of the ESPN report is alarming:

Blackburn had talked up unlikely bids for Ronaldinho and David Beckham in recent days, but ESPNsoccernet understands the remarks were designed simply to provide a smokescreen as they worked on more obtainable targets. The club hope to sign three to four new players in the January window.

Manager Steve Kean is also ready to let Chris Samba go to Aston Villa in a swap deal with James Collins, and plans to make a bid for Blackpool playmaker Charlie Adam.
