DanLad
The drum used to be infuriating. Ruined the atmosphere more than it helped. We'd be putting some pressure on, you could hear the crowd bubbling up in response...two sets of (bang, bang, bang 'Rovers') and the atmosphere would flat as a pancake again. Mattyblue
Great post onlyonetugay! Great ideas with flags, scarves and banners everybody in there. But a bloody drum?!?! I just can't understand why you would want to take us back to that @#/?. It's smalltime, it ruins the atmosphere, it sounds terrible on tv and is anything but 'ultra' I beg you! Ste B
just as your starting to improve the atmosphere you're going to get another joker with a drum to drown out any song thats remotely catchy. brilliant. (And if the drummer sits near me, he'll be wearing the thing)

This is my one and only reply, am not getting sucked into replying to everybody's post again It won't be used in the same way that we are used to (random bang bang bang) and should further improve the atmosphere. As for Ultra groups, they all tend to have a drum. We'll see how it goes, we put a vote out some time ago and the general opinion was to give it a try. Also, there is still a drummer in the BBE

SIMON GARNERS 194
Why in Gods name do you need another drummer?...you Darren Ender's seemed to be doing ok without one.Its Childish and drowns out the singing! TSK! P.S. The old terraced B/burn End was a great place to be during the 80's...dont knock it!!

rover2000
We'll see how it goes, we put a vote out some time ago and the general opinion was to give it a try. Who was a vote put out to - I suppose a very small group of fans who would be in favour of it anyway? Hardly democratic is it? I sit in the Darwen End and I wasn't asked to vote on it! I'm sure the vast majority of the fans in the Darwen End as well as the stadium as a whole were asked for an opinion they would rather not have a drum. I sit in the Darwen End as it is as far away from the BBE drummer that you can get. If a drummer comes to the Darwen End I am not going to be able to renew my season ticket as it will so destroy my pleasure of attending a game. It is nothing to do with drumming in time, time delay or anything like that drums at football matches are just really irritating in the ground and even more so on tv. Singing is great, flags and scarves are ok as long as they are not being waved and obtructing other people's view during a game. But a drum no it is just really really really annoying! J*B
Worrying about flags and scarves in peoples faces is tedious to say the least. Flags encourage crowd participation. Singing is entwined with crowd participation! Drumming was nasty in the BBEnd, it limits songs and creates one HELL of a noise, which often overpowers singing. If your bringing a drummer in who can control the volume, plus keep in time, plus know which songs not to join in on, it's not a bad thing. We use the stand and advertisements anyway. I vote no, I go back to my previous post ,, If it aint broke why fix it, The Darwen End is brilliant at the moment and a drum would definatly drown out the noise , sound amaturish on TV and p@ss people off no end...... drums are only good in places where there is no atmosphere to try and get people singing There is no need for one in the Darwen End
Mattyblue
You can't reason with the 'Blue Brigade'. Almost 2000 regulars on the Darwen End, many of who have a right good sing song, but the few dozen of the 'brigade' dictate that a drummer will be brought in. The vast majority of fans throughout Ewood Park wouldnt want it!

J*B
No, it is about showing respect for others so as everyone can enjoy the game. We're never going to agree so I'm not going to bother arguing. I respect you'd like a permanent good view of the game, I personally however think if that's the case you'd be happier in a different stand or sat on the front row. I'm assuming any flags are waved as the players go out, after we score and at the end of the game like usual. If it's a 90 minute sort of thing i can justify your feelings, otherwise, unfortunately not.

There is nothing wrong with flags and scarves used as you are suggesting. It is the constant 90 minute thing that would bother me.

blue_and_white
The drummer is just there to keep a beat for the songs that need it as everything in the Darwen End is sung way too fast. I'd hazard a guess that this isn't considered a problem by the last page of posters cause they don't join in with most songs.
brian_gallagher85
There's no harm in giving something a chance once. I think that it's important to remember that the main objective is create a better atmosphere and match experience for the fans. There are quite a few people in the Darwen End who constantly bang on the side panels of the stand and I've always thought that a proper drummer would work a treat in time with the chanting. I shall be using my season ticket tomorrow night for a change and I'm looking forward to another great atmosphere. Is the drummer going to be there tomorrow night then? Ben-2000
There's a Darwen End facebook page with nearly 500 members, we put out the question some time ago and the general opinion was to give it a go. What more can we do? As already said above, it's going to work differently, where he will join in as necessary and slow some of the songs down that fizzle out due to being sped up 100 miles an hour. Every suggestion on here is usually moaned about... moving to middle, flags, drum... even the name of the group and I doubt many of the complainents actually sit in the Darwen End. All we're trying to do is look at and try out new idea's. Long may it continue as to go back to how Ewood was 2 years ago would be awful.

If there's one thing I can't stand about the Blue Brigade its their wild exaggerations about their numbers. You'll be telling us you have 300 drums and more flags than there is seats in the ground next. Its embarassing to the club and is probably down to everyone who sits in that bit of the Darwen End being a 15 year old chav. If I manage to spot one of these idiots carrying 6 flags, blowing a whistle, standing up in front of me whilst constantly banging 2 drums I won't be renewing my season ticket and will be writing to the club about it. Benjimino
There are quite a few people in the Darwen End who constantly bang on the side panels of the stand I sit right near these people in the riverside stand and I think they make the atmosphere, 90% of the chants start there. Put it this way i'm thinking of getting my season ticket in Darwen end next year, dont want to loose out on the big games though!
slats
most of the "fans" on that facebook page only turn up to ewood once in a while ,, and mostly when the tickets are cheaper. I think the small amount of people who moved over to the middle after it was posted on facebook actualy proves that most of the people on there dont go regulary ... (and that was a cheap ticket game.) Facebook is not a good reference point to what fans want as most of the fans on there havent been going to ewood long enouogh or regulary enough to experience the atrocity and atmosphere killer that was the Blackburn End drum. Im actualy warming to the idea of scarfs and flags as long as theyre not like those crappy cheesy chelsea flags they give away and wave about in europe and dont think it will restrict anyones view because if they are being used in the corner the only people behind will be in the singing section anyway but the drum would be a nightmare (sorry about the spelling mistakes in this post but trying to rush it in before I finish work)................ plus im a rubbish speller
