I wonder if Roberts even knows the song or has just looked at the title posted and thought it was a racist/derogatory chant?

I'd be very worried for Jase's hearing if he can play over 50 games for us and not have heard the full chant at one point in his career... We arnt that quiet, Jesus!
OhmiBRFC Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Someone wrote on the measageboard not so long back that he was met somewhere and said he doesn't like it.
Backroom Tom Posted February 10, 2011 Backroom Posted February 10, 2011 I doubt he does like it, I know it's not meant to be in bad taste but really bringing his colour into it either way is kind of not on. Especially the last line 'Samba's a black man' is a questionable at best Again it's obviously not meant in a bad way just possibly misjudged

(all facts and in other words a strong fella) the rest complimenting his play... and the end bit just fits perfectly... maybe as you say the overall context is misjudged a little. But surely with all the Racism campaigns it would have been brought to light by now if he was indeed offended by it. The other Darwen End favourite, although not heard it recently... Chris Samba Wooooah Chris Samba Wooooah He's built just like a shed His feet hang out the bed

Any progress on a good Junior Hoilett song from the Blue Brigade or elsewhere?
rover2000 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I must admit I really cringe when I hear that "Samba Black Man" song. I would be very happy never to hear it again. I'm sure it is in no way intended to be racist, but it does come across that way when you hear it. It is quite a valid point that it is factually correct, but why even bring up the colour of somebody's skin. If the club is looking to promote itself internationally there is a danger that such a song could be perceived the wrong way. I do like the "Chris Samba Wooooah......" song mentioned, perhaps that should be used instead. I also remember Samba making his debut in the cup game at Luton and the crowd sing "Lets All Do The Samba" and him seeming quite in awe of it. Would like to hear that more.

One suggested but not really heard it... and it's a copy junior junior running down the wing junior junior running down the wing can he beat his man? course he f'in can junior junior junior
Backroom Tom Posted February 10, 2011 Backroom Posted February 10, 2011 Samba's debut was amazing, he was a fan favourite as soon as the camera showed him hunched over in the dugout, then he ran on and did a brilliant airshot, good times.

Yeah, remember that at Luton - the ball went way over that stand!! Love samba me, especially when he goes on one of his runs!
RIML Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Just a point so please don't shoot me down, United refer to Rooney as the white Pele. I don't know what's worse, mentioning his skin colour or thinking that he's anything like Pele pfft at least Pele scored in the World Cup We could sing Chris Samba is a big strong man but I doubt it's going to change now. Nelsen is the man we need to sing for, at least he applauds the supporters!

I agree that the song isn't meant to offend but if he doesn't like it then I don't think we should sing it. The other Darwen End favourite, although not heard it recently... Chris Samba Wooooah Chris Samba Wooooah He's built just like a shed His feet hang out the bed Good job you have an alternative song, that is superb !

67splitscreen Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I'm sure there is a song in here for Samba .......... budding songwriters ... away you go to Copacabana His name was is Rico Samba, he wore a diamond is a Rover He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancin' there ????????? And when he finished, he called him over But Rico Samba went a bit too far, Tony ?? sailed across the bar turf And then the punches flew and chairs legs were smashed up too There was blood and a single gun shot and a red card too But just who shot who ???????? His name is Samba he's the centre half down at Ewood Park ???? Must improve
blue_and_white Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 There were a few older guys singing this in the concourse at half-time against Wigan: He's coming, he's coming, he's coming down the wing, catch him if you can, he's canadian, Junior Hoilett down the wing. Been trying to find the tune everywhere but can't. I'll try and start it on saturday anyway (providing I don't forget it!).

tashor Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Dance Samba wonderland Dance Samba wonderland Ewood creeps so slowly into hearts, Of men who give more than they get Ewood deals a good hand, To a player who has paid so many debts The Rovers look you in the face and say Chris, uh uh get to work You haunt their players with your manic glare You tackle and make them hurt Dance Samba wonderland Dance Samba wonderland Sound fly through the night We chase our vinyl dreams to Samba wonderland Go into a trance when we start to dance in Samba wonderland Go into a trance when we start to dance in Samba wonderland All the love in the world can't be gone All the need to be loved can't be wrong All the Rovers are playing And our heart keeps saying Samba wonderland, wonderland Dance Samba wonderland Dance Samba wonderland All the love in the world can't be gone All the need to be loved can't be wrong All the Rovers are playing And our heart keeps saying Samba wonderland, wonderland Dance Samba wonderland Dance Samba wonderland
cletus Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I remember reading about in the 80's, the rovers fans would chant "Riverside, Give us a song, Riverside, Riverside, Give us a song!" to try and get them more involved. Maybe the rovers fans in the darwen end and the Blackburn end could give it a try? The DE tried getting a bit of an atmosphere going last season. We sang "Blackburn End give us a song" & "Can you hear the Blackburn End...no no". We also sang the same songs aimed at the Riverside.......but it upset a few people on here. Instead of joining in & giving us a song......many toys were thrown out of prams Encouraging banter between the stands is a touchy subject for some reason ....As for the Samba 'black man' song, i much prefer this little ditty.... & often wonder why it never took off? It`s catchy, simple & has a bouncy wavey dance to it. COYB!!!
CAPT KAYOS Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I think that says it all really. No it doesn't - he has had plenty of opportunity to come out and advise of his unliking of it be it in the Match Programme, The Big TV at the Ground etc He's the Captain ffs and therefore has a mouthpiece more than the rest of the squad. I aint no racist but it does my head in when things get taken out of the context of what they are and people turn it into something its not - its a football song at the end of the day sang to give appreciation of the player and that is exactly what is should be taken for Alot of fans didn't like him handing in a TFR request but you don't hear them condemning him for it. And just for the record - I like Samba but if he doesn't like it he needs to come public about it.
Mattyblue Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I'm waiting for the usual post stating how it sums up 'our small town mentality' casually ignoring the much more offensive Man Utd 'you eat dogs...' Park chant.
CAPT KAYOS Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Nelsen is the man we need to sing for, at least he applauds the supporters! I did put one together a fair few years back that I posted in the Song section To the tune of In the Navy 'Admiral Nelsen he comes from Overseas ...... Admiral Nelsen from the country of N Z ( zee) .........Admiral Nelsen he brings strikers to their knees ..........He's a Kiwi He's a Kiwi '
