Wow buy that man Salgado a rather large drink, has hit the nail on the head there big time. Take note Venkys, this is a man who played with the gelactico's, he knows what he is talking about. 3 or 4 players who will fit in with what we already have is exactly what we need.

Such a good bloke Salgado, would love him to stay on at Rovers when his playing days are up in some sort of capacity.

United paid £10m (probably including bonuses) for a young English defender with POTENTIAL. Samba is already proven at this level and is at the prime of his career. £12-15m sounds realistic to me. Why should we go short?

Spot on. How some people on this board cant see this I just dont know.

I was beginning to think that things were looking up and now you have to come up with that. His injury has been a blessing to me.

Lets not forget Bret Emmerton disappearing to Oz, another blessing.

Only if we were selling to the United or City. Apparently it's Villa.

Don't get me wrong, I would be furious if we sell Samba to Villa for £6M or get Collins + £2M, but the trend of similar transfers (to mid-table clubs) in recent years does seem to indicate that valuation of £15M or something is really not realistic in the current market. Unless City enter the chase.

Salgado is always sensible, even when tormnenting the opposition. A real footballer.

According to this 'rumor' website, we are in for Jerome Thomas and James Morrison, both of WBA. http://www.football-rumours.co.uk/blackburn-rumours.php

You lads inj the states make me laugh, just for the uneducated, Uniform in the USA means 'Kit' and other belters include 'Cleats' boots and and a header is a head shot!!

I can't help it if the English language is growing and evolving in the USA. We have Darwin on our side. :D

And I thought you English types meant 'trunk' (as in for a car's storage compartment) when you say "boot". Make up your mind. :P

Give that man an extra helping of paellla.

Cue Salgado getting heaps of abuse and not allowing supporters to dream.

And he does it without calling the fans a bunch of spotty-faced teens.

The man obviously has class.

And why some people can't see that capitalism and value is ALL about what someone will pay for something I don't know.

What other people are prepared to pay is only crucial if we were in a position where we had to sell because we were skint or he was nearing the end of his contract.

We don't have to sell and he has a long time to run on his contract so we are in a position to demand top dollar.

Hmm, link's bust and the article seems to have gone....

Strange, might have something to do with the quotes taken off bradley oar, and Paddy Kenny's twitter pages, saying Diouf will get whats coming to him eventually. Why professional footballs insist on posting such things on Twitter is beyond me, do they not think the press/public will not see it?

Because he is only worth what people are willing to pay. And he isnt a good enough 'footballer' to warrant the big price tags.

I don't think using City's panic buys as a standard is very productive or some guestimate on Cahill's potential value. Cuellar was £8M, Michael Turner £6M, Jagielka £4M, Roger Johnson £5M, Skrtel £6,5M, Dunne £5M, Upson £6M.. these were real transfer of players on somewhat same level as Samba.

No. No they weren't. None of them.

Telegraph seemed to have pulled the article. Here is Salgado's quote in full from the bottom of it (at least a copy taken from another board)

“I don’t think someone like Beckham coming here for three months is the best thing for him or Blackburn,” Salgado said. “We’d prefer three or four club players with good experience, maybe not top class, but ones who would be really good for this club in the future.

“Maybe Ronaldinho wouldn’t be in the mood to play here in England with the weather and those things. You have to be honest. He would be a big name for us, maybe around the world they will talk about us a bit more now. But on the pitch I would prefer a good team, playing well and getting results.”

A balanced, common sense based view which is nice to see. Good bloke to have in a dressing room I would suggest.

Salgado is a top pro and works his socks off each game, never hides and unlike many older foreign players who come to England, has really put in a shift for us, I have so much respect for him as both player and person.

Sorry off topic but Salgado is correct, The O'Hara type players would be much more sensible signings at this time, especially after the takeover which has not gone too smoothly in my opinion.

That's only partly true. When a player publicly wants to go there's a grey area. I agree my ideal position would be to say £15m or he stays but then he may turn around and say fine, I will stay, and I will see out my contract and then leave for free. The reality is that clubs cave in - a good example would be Man U and Rooney
