[Archived] Transfer Window Part 3

True Blue & White.

You sound like my wife. Getting her hopes down all the time and staying negative just so that she won't be dissapointed. I can't understand the meaning of it. I rather live on high hopes and then be dissapointed than walk around without hoping and being negative.

I'm not negative, just realistic. I'm judging Venky's on what we know about them. If you want to choose 'blind optimism' then fine but personally I prefer a more rational existence.

Its not blind optimism. Im judging from what I know.

They fired Sam Allardyce and hired Steve Kean who have done a great job so far.

January Windows are depressing little buying and selling.

Its not like we are not used to it?

I cant see why I should moan and be negative about the new owners when it wasnt all rousy with our last owners. We have to accept that we are just a small town in Europe and just appreciate all the good results (Liverpool and QPR) we can get.

You are the naive one. Thinking that you know all the answers based on very little information.

We know??? No no, people believe whatever they want about Venky's to suit their arguments. What we KNOW about Venky's is slim, which is why I, along with many other rational fans, are judging them on their actions, ie. transfer moves over the next 3 weeks.

If no money is pumped in and nobody is signed then there is every reason to panic, but right now we know very little regarding their total wealth or their willingness to invest. All we've seen so far is that they've sacked Sam and replaced him with a competent coach who seems to have somehow gelled the squad together, got them playing good football and managed to get some decent results.

Venky's also had a pop at signing Ronaldinho which apparently had been worked on for months. I saw that as both showing ambition and a desire to throw some cash around. The fact that it didnt come off wasnt a surprise but its damn sight more ambitious than the Trust ever were.

Its easy to criticise Venky's for things not working out. Im sure the same people having a go at them now will be criticising them at the end of the window regardless of who is brought in.

Those who are claiming to be realists and accusing those people who enjoyed the Ronaldinho ride of having 'blind optimism' seem to be guilty of the same offence ie. believing any negative story whilst choosing to ignore the positive ones. Can there be 'blind pessimists'..?

January is a difficult time to do any good business with transfers. It's been that way for years, it's why many clubs try to avoid it all together.

That said, the lack of investment in previous years has meant we are short of where we need to be. I'm giving this new regime a shot. They've expressed a desire to make 2-3 signings and that isn't far off the minimum required. We aren't going to be able to keep pulling results out of the bag with 9 players out every week. If that means paying slightly over the odds then so be it. That's the cost of the last couple of windows.

So if on Feb 1st there hasn't been any progress it will be a black mark against our new owners and rightly so.

Birmingham appear to be beating us into a cocked hat on potential signings. In fact this window has a very familier feel about it.

"Words, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing".

It's a good job some of our younger players are coming good.

21 pages in two days, have we signed someone? (Can't be bothered reading every page.)

No, not until we have sold a player first, probably Samba, to pay for a new signing.

Venky's are skint con-artists.

Plus ca change.

This is as important a transfer window for Rovers as any in many a year in that whoever comes and goes it will play a massive part in keeping the fans onside come the summer for next seasons campaign.

For £5m we are probabaly looking at just ONE player plus maybe a loanee and maybe the same again come the summer.

We are all under the impression that Venky's are going to pump in a minimum of £5m per transfer window regardless of any sales so its over to Venky's and Kentaro now to deliver.

They initially promised £5m so guess that'll do. But no need to come out and say we have more to spend if we don't, so not really sure what to believe any longer. What does concern me is our inability to close deals - we should have signed players already this window but we're now 1/3 into January and nothing has happened. I realise it is difficult but we always get in a situation where we either panic buy towards the end of a transfer window, or we sit on our money until the next when the same pattern continues.

Like Peter, Paul and Mary would have said:

- Oh, when will they ever learn?

A tale told by a Venky?

You wouldn't want to show your hand on transfer funds.

But then again, they did disclose on "their" (was it a fake?) twitter feed how much they were gonna offer Ron-Ron, so maybe they like shouting the odds.

I have absolutely b*gger-all idea what's going on any more. Too much noise, not enough signal.

Worst case scenario is that there's £5m to spend on transfers and wages. Or is it that there's £5m to spend on transfers and wages once we've sold Samba? Or we're after 4 players plus a "marquee" signing? Or maybe we'll sell Samba and get a Norwich full-back on loan and Venky's will have a beano to Margate on the difference? In any case, don't worry people cos we will finish fifth.

*cough* "You believe" Venky's are skint con-artists *cough*

Given your former employ, I'd have expected you off all people to get why I'm on a crusade to differentiate between opinion and potential libel :)

With all due respect Glenn no one said they were "con artists". I did say they were skint but maybe I should clarify, they are not skint in the same sense as we are, they have a fairly successful business with ambitious global plans and they have the odd million or two kicking about, but what I don't believe (I, not the opinion of BRFCS) is that they have tens of millions to throw around so in the terms of Premier League owners they are skint.

Yet they have more than the odd million to throw around on 75 top end sports cars? I believe they have substantial amounts to spend on players, they are not in Sheikhs league for money but have enough to provide us a sizable transfer budget.
