[Archived] Transfer Window Part 3

The next move is down to Charlie Adam. If he kicks off then Blackpool will sell to the highest bidder.

I get the feeling this is going to cost a bit more than expected.

How much were you/they expecting it to cost?

Could do with it being sorted one way or another.

If you are going to play the football Steve Kean wants to play he is absolutely key.

Are there any other midfield players lined up if we don't get Adam ? Maybe Stephen Ireland ?

Cheers Nicko.

Is there much going on this January, not just for us but in general? Or is it quite a quiet January so far?

Seems quite mundane, although admittedly only 10 days into the month...

So you think the Ronaldinho and Beckham "bids" were serious and not a con to deceive naive supporters ?

And you actually believe they are going to splash serious money in the transfer market without selling players first ?

Not such a libel as more statement of facts on the evidence so far.

In truth - there is no evidence so far - only conjecture.

Ronaldinho - could be true - he was in last six months of contract so we didn't need to get Milan permission. His agent never denied Rovers interest - and Nicko seemed to think it was credible.

Selling players first - hmmm - exactly who have we sold that would generate the millions required ? Samba may go - but it is him that is pushing that one.

Your fears may be correct - but you really need to pull your neck in when trying to put forward your theories as facts.

Lets see how the window unravels before making knee jerk reactions. You have to remember that in-action in this window will not only let down the fans but also totally undermine Steve Kean who sold the Venky vision to the senior players. There is enough riding on the next few weeks.

Does anyone know whether Mame Diouf is on the potential list to buy?

I think he would be a good signing for us and would free up a loan space.

Not sure Fergie would be keen though.

After us sacking his mate I don't believe there is any chance of us getting Mame Diouf permanently. If it hadn't been a season loan I reckon Fergie would have had him back before now. Look at what he did to Preston when they sacked his son.

Jims entitled to his opinion, and to be honest is throwing out the same old lines so consistently, that maybe he knows something the rest of us don’t.

Whilst I enjoy reading the speculation and Nickos comments, I can’t help but feel that these lot are taking us all for a ride in the name of publicity, like I’m sure many do also.

But as a Rovers fan I’ve enjoyed the past few weeks, from being linked to Maradona, to Ronny and then to Beckham, certainly beats being linked to nobody at all season after season, so even if we sign nobody its been a good few weeks picking up the paper daily and reading the news sites on the internet.

We all know this transfer window is notoriously difficult to do deals, Kean is probably finding that out about now, and maybe should have refused to discuss transfer speculation with the press. Whilst we’ll not be held to ransom on transfers, I think if we fail to sign a couple of established players the owners and manager in some respects will lose all credibility, and Jim will be singing that old favourite:

“I told you so”

Time will tell.

All that can be acheieved by saying the same things over and over again is a; I told you so, if it goes tits up. Great. Whatever floats your boat. It can't change anything and it doesn't contribute anything.

We all know the opinion, there's no new info apart from it's another whole day gone without a signing. At least wait until something new happens. And by new I don't mean an article by a nobody from a ###### website.

No, not until we have sold a player first, probably Samba, to pay for a new signing.

Venky's are skint con-artists.

Did our owners confirm the actual details of the salary offer?

Did Ronaldinhos own agent confirm we had contacted him with an offer?

Did our new manager, who has every reason to be truthful with our fans, say that we contacted them? Did he also publicly say he wants to get Ronaldinho over for face to face talks?

What evidence is there that it was a PR stunt?? The only evidence we have is that he wanted to go back to Brazil (Its what his current owners said)…therefore how can we compete with that – we can try by offering him better terms, we did that too – it didn’t work, GET OVER IT!!!

Maybe/ Maybe not – its worth noting that we got permission to play him in the FA Cup when we asked last week.

Why has he got every reason to be truthful to the fans?

He's a yes man, and is on Kentaro's books, thats why he got the job.

He's not going to start contradicting Venkys when they have just given him an undeserved shot at management with a Premier League side.

Why not, they have Berbatov, Rooney, Hernadez and Macheda (on loan) and Wellbeck (on loan) who are all in front of MB Diouf. He has no real future at Utd IMO.

However, after seeing what Fergie pulled at Preston after his son got sacked I wouldn't be su[prised if he puts an embargo on dealing with us for what we did to his mate, Sam.

£2.5m? I'm not surprised it was rejected! I don't think Adam is a world beater but he's surely worth more than that (maybe £4m or £5m).

Anybody know Blackpool's valuation of him? Or if they've even come up with one?

Last week after their match against Brum, I told you what my friend had heard who's followed blackpool for years and done the odd bit of sponsorship there. Every player has a price and Adam's is supposed to be £6.5m.

It's really down to Blackpool to put a valuation on him...or the player to react once a bid comes in that he thinks is fair...watch this space.

There are not many good players out there, so it's no shock that there is a rush for someone of his calibre.

Everybody concerned could do with this being settled fast.

But don't count on it.

This is a bit different though, he simply recalled them knowing he could get them sent somewhere else on loan, no problem. He might see it as more trouble trying to shift Diouf on, seeing as they spent £4m on him.

Birmingham has given Newcastle permission to speak to Seb Larsson

At present – no need, unless we plan on finding Diouf a new home this window…..We have Diouf MKI & Hoilett to play wide right – and at a push, Emerton, Dunn or Diouf MKII

Lots of people are understandably frustrated and a tad cynical.

I for one thought that Venkys made the right noises when they completed the takeover. However, based upon both their actions (eg sacking Sam, alleged initial sidelining of Messrs Williams & Finn) and non actions (circumstantial stuff that hasn't come to fruition) since, their stock, IMO, has fallen significantly.

I genuinely hope that they prove to be the 'real deal' though I'm no longer holding my breath.

Already, a third of the transfer window has now gone and it's difficult to understand Rovers' true intentions when we haven't landed a single target when we are supposedly wanting 4 or 5 new players, particularly given a crippling injury list, suspensions, Asia Cup absentee and possibly a 'wantaway'.

Who has confirmed John William has been sidelined? He's the one negotiating to bring in the new players the club has targeted.

So that means it's John Williams who is failing at the minute then???

Sorry, that doesn't fit in with the conspiracy, I apologise

Sorry, have edited to 'initial' which many people have thought.

Modes - Can we have a separate transfer thread just to discuss Samba? There's 21 pages of transfer talk in this thread and at least 3 quarters of it relates to Samba!

If you want to then by all means start one up. I don't have the time to go back and split the topic unfortunately.

1.Did our owners confirm the actual details of the salary offer?

2.Did Ronaldinhos own agent confirm we had contacted him with an offer?

3.Did our new manager, who has every reason to be truthful with our fans, say that we contacted them? Did he also publicly say he wants to get Ronaldinho over for face to face talks?

4.What evidence is there that it was a PR stunt??

1. Erm maybe. There was a garbled we've bid £6.2m for him from Mrs D.

2. Not that I am aware and Ronaldinho has never mentioned us.

3. Kean changes his message as often as Venkys. Ronaldinho didn't come over for talks, nor did he mention coming over.

4. It fits in nicely with raising Venkys profile in a country that they operate in.

I'm not saying it is completely a PR stunt but I think they had to be acutely aware of the slim chance of a deal and used it to gain more media coverage, especially through the interviews from India.
