[Archived] Transfer Window Part 3

Recommended Posts

Nicko, do you have any idea of where Adam wants to go and if he wants to go at all? The rumours linking him with us have been going on for a few months and surely he has been made aware of these. He is a class act and would love to see him at Ewood. I think he has to be the priority this window, even if it takes up to £5million

What evidence is there that it was a PR stunt?? The only evidence we have is that he wanted to go back to Brazil (Its what his current owners said)…therefore how can we compete with that

Personally, I'm disgusted we haven't relocated the club to Brazil to seal this.

So you think the Ronaldinho and Beckham "bids" were serious and not a con to deceive naive supporters ?

And you actually believe they are going to splash serious money in the transfer market without selling players first ?

Not such a libel as more statement of facts on the evidence so far.

I think what you're claiming is possible given then evidence, but certainly far from proven.

As for will they come good on their promises, only time will tell. Even if we don't manage to land anyone yet sell Samba, has it been a deliberate con, or simply naive optimism, truthfully I think the only people that will know for sure are in Pune.

Did our owners confirm the actual details of the salary offer?

No they gave an ambigious statement about offering £6.2m for Ronaldinho. Whether this was the transfer fee paid to Milan, Ron's wages or a combination of both is still a mystery.

Also, saying you'll pay X amount doesn't mean you have X amount if you're intention is to do it for publicity.

Did Ronaldinhos own agent confirm we had contacted him with an offer?

Yes, which gave him leverage no doubt when negotiating a new contract in Brazil. Besides no one is denying the bid was made. or at least some kind of dicussion between their people and our people took place. What is in question is how serious this offer was.

Did our new manager, who has every reason to be truthful with our fans

Does he? I would have thought his first priority was to his pay masters.

, say that we contacted them? Did he also publicly say he wants to get Ronaldinho over for face to face talks?

Yes which was the most ridiculous thing he has done so far. Demanding Ronaldinho come here so he can find out if he is 'up for it'. Like it or not, Ronnie is bigger than Blackburn and that statement by Kean (whom Dinho probably has never heard of or have any natural respect for) was embarrassing.

What evidence is there that it was a PR stunt?? The only evidence we have is that he wanted to go back to Brazil (Its what his current owners said)…therefore how can we compete with that – we can try by offering him better terms, we did that too – it didn’t work, GET OVER IT!!!

And what evidence do we have that it wasn't a PR stunt? It would have been very easy to determine Dinho's feelings on returning home BEFORE we went public and way before we started dreaming salary offers. Surely finding out sinmple like "would he come to England" be something you find out before you go to the press bragging about talking to his agent?

----------------------

If you want to then by all means start one up. I don't have the time to go back and split the topic unfortunately.

1. Erm maybe. There was a garbled we've bid £6.2m for him from Mrs D.

2. Not that I am aware and Ronaldinho has never mentioned us.

3. Kean changes his message as often as Venkys. Ronaldinho didn't come over for talks, nor did he mention coming over.

4. It fits in nicely with raising Venkys profile in a country that they operate in.

I'm not saying it is completely a PR stunt but I think they had to be acutely aware of the slim chance of a deal and used it to gain more media coverage, especially through the interviews from India.

This!

Sticking the proposed attempt to sign Ronaldinho on your Facebook page and then swiping it off AFTER it has got out is a good indication that it might have been a publicity stunt. Keep having the likes of Kean talking to the press about it for a few days also lends to that theory. Was the money there to sign him? Probably. Did they think they ever had a hope in hell? Doubt it, why would they?

Not that it really matters. Nothing wrong with a bit of a publicity stunt if it means raising our profile. The problem will be if they now do not sign any player, as we desperately need them.

Venkys have talked the talk for long enough. They need to walk the walk.

Saying players are hard to sign in January is not a good enough excuse after all the fanfare and build-up. Kean and Venkys have said players will be brought in. They have staked their own reputations on this transfer window. Four players was the number bandied about. They might not get all those they want, but they sure as hell need to get a few in.

Time to deliver.

They have until Jan 31st.

LMAO £6.5M LMAO

People's valuations of players are really amazing.

I know that it's all rather subjective and not an exact science but unless Adam is in the last year of his contract or has a release clause at / above a certain price, then why would Blackpool consider accepting derisory £2 & £2.5m bids or even £3 or 4m ?

Arsenal were supposed to have bid £10m for Jones in the summer on the strength of less than half a season, Spuds paid £15m for Bentley.

Why would a £6.5m price for a key player at just 26 years of age, with scope for development and yet to reach his prime, be unrealistic ?

Where £'s are concerned, the Oystons extract every last ounce of flesh.

You have been warned!

Sure Blackpool can keep him and loose him for free. Of course if they stay up I am sure they will be happy as that is their aim for the season.

The Ronaldinho farce does matter because it only gave the critics more ammunition to pour scorn on our club. It may have raised our profile but only to invite ridicule. I cannot see how that is good PR for Blackburn Rovers.

I appreciate we're going a little off topic here, but still, everyone else is at it. Why would they think they had a hope in hell? I think there are two sensible answers to this.

1) Reputedly, they were offering more money than anyone else. In many cases, footballers follow the money trail.

2) Ronnie's agent, his brother, has been leading the Brazilian clubs a merry dance in all this. All three of them thought, at one time or another, that the deal was sealed for them. It seems very likely then, that Ronnie's agent will have kept stringing Rovers along, like he did all the others, in case the Brazilian deals collapsed or Milan held out for the money. If he was using us as an emergency backup option, he likely strung us along, so that could be why we'd think there was a hope in hell.

You would know that as one of our harshest critics. It's certainly given you ammunition.

You spout more rubbish than any newspaper hack

Here's a thought.

If Ronaldinho - one of the few players in the world who could fill a stadium - had been available and your wealthy and wannabe owners had NOT moved for him - you would have been accusing them of being tight.

The move was genuine. I had it denied to me twice [at least] before I got to the bottom of it via the Brazilian press.

If you want to do a publicity stint you do not have 'secret' talks with Ronaldinho's brother and agent for two months and demand it stays under wraps.

You do not set up meetings, which the Ronaldinho boys fail to attend at the last minute.

You do not then go public to try and get a straight answer.

The bottom line is the Rovers offer was the best financial deal on the table. It was USED by Ronaldinho's brother to try and get more money out of the Brazilians.

Was it a wise move to try? Yes. Will they try again for a similar talent? Maybe.

But Ronaldinho coming up for grabs does not happen often - and probably a similar worldie type like him won't do again in a hurry.

It was a bold attempt. Now you move on.

Very well said.

Jim hasn't moved on since Thatcher became PM, so it's unlikely he will change now.

Nicko, any news of players leaving Rovers?

It's all very quiet today.

There was a game at Ewood between Rovers reserves and Morecambe to showcase some.

Only two clubs - Preston and Plymouth - turned up of any importance.

The ones who could be loaned out won't make a world of difference.

I think no one would have accused the owners of being tight for not moving for an unrealistic target such as Ronaldinho.

But fans are likely to accuse them of being tight if they do not find the money for a very realistic target such as Adam.

It was a bold attempt and a publicity stunt. Nothing more.
