[Archived] Transfer Window Part 3

Recommended Posts

I get the impression that a lot of people on here think it would be a disaster if we didn't sign anybody this transfer window.

Let's not forget that without Venkys we'd be entering this transfer window with minimal funds anyway and whether it's £5m or more, it's £5m+ more than most of the other clubs around us have to spend.

Just because we have this money doesn't mean we should spend it all, or pay over the odds for a player for the sake of bringing 'bodies' in.

I'm very much for bringing in Charlie Adam, I think he's exactly the type of player we need, but not at £6m/£7m (if it goes that high).

Our current squad, although depleted at the moment, has us sitting in the top half of the table, and with the 7 point cushion we have, I don't see us being relegated this year.

Whilst we might not finish in the top half, I'd be content with sticking with what we've got (which means holding on to Samba) and sorting the squad out properly in the summer.

So basically our transfer tactic is wait til a player is on the verge on signing for someone else and then try and scupper it at the last minute? Stupid!

Even if Blackpool do accept a bid, and we match it, it doesn't stop Villa then offering £0.1m more and a bidding war ensuing from there.

Once the bid is accepted it is accepted, why bid more? Then we offer the same and that also gets accepted.

Then it's down to convincing the player that we are the best bet.

For the guy who mentioned Ireland wages, he is somehow on 68k I think, which is daylight robbery.

Villa and Blackburn, we just don't seem to be able to escape eachother in these windows, if it's not us trying to buy someone off you we end up bidding for the same player. At least Birmingham won't get him, the horrible animals.

Is there any indication that Adam sees us as "the right club?"

Thats how a GOOD manager works, he knows before a bid goes in the player will come, you 'nobble' the player first, its done in every part of football, Rovers with Savage from Birmingham, Ronaldo to Real, they knew if the offer to the club was successful you had your man, If Steve Kean doesnt know that now, I rest my case.

So given the way the Dunn deal went Sam Allardyce isn't a good manager. Thank God we got rid.

at the moment we've got the best story with which to sell the club to Adam. Potentially we could be on the verge of big things...we don't know how much money they're going to throw at it...perhaps loads...If I were Adam, Rovers, compared with Villa who are going nowhere, Everton ditto....no brainer from a footballing point of view.

Personally, I would rather wait till summer to buy the right players for Blackburn, instead of just buying over priced players that might not be what we need. Buying players in the summer is much easier, and most likely cheaper. Fact is, most PL managers dislike this window, and probably with good reason.

Saying that, I'm disappointed that we didn't try to sign a player like Bentley. But on the other hand, perhaps Bentley told Blackburn that he didn't fancy a return?

My predictions(after reading the many 11'o clockers) for this window are as follows:

Adam - A quality signing and proven in the premier league.

Warnock - A solid left back who was in the English international squad during the world cup. Although he has not performed greatly as of late, I'm a fan of his, and I am sure he will return to good old form when and if he reunites with his former Blackburn mates.

Rochina - Benjani did show us that he is still struggling with an injury(or getting back to top shape), and a need for a striker is probably increased as a result. This Rochina fella looks promising and might fit perfectly with our new attacking short pass style. Looks like a good dribbler as well! The fact that Kean has coached in Span and speaks spanish(?) might be a significant factor in landing this player.

If we manage to sign all these players in this January window, I think everybody will be very pleased.

But Friedel and Samba will be at Villa

Im in agreement with those say we should be sensible with our money and look to summer as the key time to really improve.

January window - Rochina - £1m, Adam £3.5m and RSC on loan will do for me. Much more ability in midfield, a goalscorer if we keep him fit & a young talent with potential. And KEEP Samba.

January is always inflated prices - and with most clubs seeming active, it will only further inflate prices.

Summer is when we can finally shift some deadwood and hopefully bring in much better quality.

No doubt about it Rovers are playing a dangerous game when it comes to Adam. Biding our time will either work brilliantly as we get him at a price that is meets our price estimation or it will blow up in our faces as waiting will lead to him becoming out of our price range or ending up moving before we can react. Obviously this only applies if he does indeed want to leave Blackpool and the club is open to selling.

You make it sound like it's easy to sign players in the summer. Good players are always wanted, and being Blackburn we won't always be the most attractive proposition.

I agree with Hughesy though, I think we come a long way if we sign Adam, Rochina and RSC. I can't believe we're not after Bentley...

You can stick your Steven Warnock up were the sun doesnt shine.

A liability defender and definitely not a player for any team in the world who has any aspirations of doing well.

Fair enough, I was probably slightly too positive in my description of him, but if we are going to play olsson on the left wing, we only have Gael Givet as an option, if I'm not mistaken.

As far as I know Warnock is the only left back we are linked with, and my list is based on those players the papers have mentioned. I think he would be better than nothing and would serve to strengthen the squad. Would I be happier if we signed say Miguel Torres, who by the way plays for Getafe(where our future number two coached at), or even John Arne Riise, definitely.

Put Santas loan fee in there Hughesy and its looking like £5m
