we wont bid until blackpool accept a bid then we will match that bid but offer better terms

Is there not a risk that the deal will be all done and dusted BEFORE we know about it. Would you not rather ship your 'star' player, if you are going to sell him, as far a way as possible rather than to your nearest geographic rivals. Seems to me like either Russian roulette or we don't want / can't afford Adam.

OMG!

We're one third of the way through the window! We should have signed 1.3333333333 players already!

Just a thought, shouldn't any angst about the lack of progress with incoming transfers be better laid at the feet of the chap in charge of dealing with the domestic transfers?

Hunt felt wanted by Wolves

Paul Scharner felt wanted by WBA

I even made sure the example were other midlands clubs :D. But even though I agree that's not always the real reason, why are you so confident that..

a) Our contract offer is be better than Villa's

B) Villa won't up their offer to Adam as they've spent a lot of time on trying to get him.

Or should we wait until he's agreed terms with Villa then step in, like we're doing with the transfer fee? And I still want to know why Villa are bothering given that people on a Rovers message board already know they are wasting their time for our benefit?

The examples given state nothing about the club making a bid first though. Players will make up their mind having spoken to clubs, they would certainly never judge a decision on who bids first.

Im not confident it will be a better contract offer from us, or that we will even make a bid, but im happy to wait it out and see what happens rather than get in a stress about it.

Villa obviously feel they have a good a chance as anyone else, just as we do. It will be down to Adam if Blackpool accept an offer, then it comes down to a couple of things. Does Adam want to stay in the North West? Is his motivation money? If so who can offer the most?

I think this is why its a key moment in the Venkys reign. It will really show if they are willing to back Kean with his targets, and they have the money to back him up.

Would be surprised and disappointed if it's not at least £200k plus add-ons, sale clauses etc.

As for Marrow, £50k for a lad who's had a storming start to life in the Championship, someone is having a right larf at us!

Whilst I think it is far too early to panic in general I agree with that. The more I think about our modus operandi on Adam the less sense it makes.

It's like an anonymous stalker sitting at the back of Church then objecting when the vicar says "Does anyone know of any reason why Charlie Adam and Club X should not be joined together in holy matrimony." Then expecting the player to drop the Wedding Bouquet and run down the aisle into our arms without a backward glance at the jilted groom.

We must have a maximum valuation on Adam. Wouldn't it be better to bid that whilst other Clubs are faffing around with unrealistic offers, and if it proves initially unsuccessful move onto other targets whilst leaving the bid on the table. If we land target B, offer for Adam gets withdrawn.

Have you not heard?

He is too busy being unhappy and undermined by the new owners to actually do any work!

I wish if people are going to accuse the club, owners or manger of lying, you should first check the quotes.

I am pretty sure that Kean said "hopefully we can get a couple of players in before the QPR game."

If you wish that people would check the quotes, why don't you use them then instead of guessing what they were?

We have already declared interest in Adam and Im sure he is aware of that. The point I was making is that Rovers would not want to make an offer to Blackpool of lets say 5m for example when they would have happily accepted 4m or the current highest bid of 3.5 Villa have made. So when a bid is accepted then we go in and match it. Adam and his family live in the north west so rather than up sticks and move to a club who currently sit below us in the league, he would rather stay up here and with us having new owner, new targets/visions etc he may just choose us over that

So, in other words, we don't really want him that much do we? We can't bear to be paying more than another club would and so we will risk him choosing the other club.

IF we want him as much as we supposedly do, and we have heard he is a top priority, we should be going in with our offer and trying to get it done asap. We must have a general range we are willing to pay, surely?

Apart from anything else being worried about getting into a bidding war over the transfer fee is self-defeating as we will only end up having to challenge other clubs over his signing-on fee and wages. So, we will end up paying out one way or another either way but if we rush in now with an acceptable bid we might actually getting instead of letting a club like Liverpool come in and take him off us.

Have you not seen anyone here being upset that Rovers did not sign anyone before the QPR match?

I was talking about the Kean quotes. You said you were annoyed at people misrepresenting what Kean said, and then in turn guessed what he said and put quotation marks around it. ;)

I honestly don't see the point in the RSC loan deal!!

He's no longer the 15+ goals a season striker we sold to City a while back; he's been sat on their bench/in the reserves ever since he left.

I struggle to see how he's going to rediscover that form (and stay injury free) in the remainder of this season.

I could understand maybe if the deal was with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season, depending on his performances.

I would much rather give Kalinic an extended run until the end of the season as part of a two-man front line.

Benjani, Diouf and Roberts have shown that they are capable of scoring goals so RSC is an unecessary and expensive risk in my opinion.

I would have liked to have had Bentley back on loan but there's no chance he'd want to come back (mainly out of pride).

so dont shoot the messenger but is there any truth in rovers making a 6 million bid for michael carrick ?

Yeah, I heard he's the third choice 'Marquee Signing' behind Ronaldinho and Beckham.

Apparently Carrick's birthday is a national bank holiday in Brazil.

No they wouldn't have in my view and they certainly never said money would be available in January.

There was some suggestion from those sympathetic to the previous regime that there might be "a Plan B" if they didn't sell - that's as far as that went.

The irony of this is that if there had been NO takeover talk in the summer there is every chance that £5 million would have been available for new players and probably spent.

In the end that £5 million was saved in the books and helped the Trustees get more from the sale and the clearing of the debt.

So as I said, the reason we had no money to spend in the summer was down purely to us being up for sale, they would have given us £5m had the sale not been so close....

The debt figure is lower because that's where the summer 'kitty' went to...

Like I said before, if there is a failure to find a buyer it could lead to that money being released for the manager in January.

Nicko was pretty sure o his information at the time that there was a plan B, which was to give Sam circa £5m during January as they had kept it back due to the impending sale.

remember what I'm arguing here, that if we hadn't been bought and no offers came in then the trust would have given a small amount of money to spend. What is not true, as some people are implying, is that the trust decided to give us nothing just because they felt like it, wouldn't have put any more in (even if it meant keeping us in the EPL) and that Venky's have somehow come to our rescue.

If th takeover had hav fallen through and the trust didn't invest then they could well be reducing any sales price they would have got next year. Of course they would have put some money in.

He's not, he's in their "B Team" who are a lower league team that just happen to be affliated with Barca. They don't have as many teams as we do here so a lot of their lower leagye teams are B teams but they are no more competitive that Doncaster Rovers.

Barcelona B plays in Segunda División, the Spanish Championship, where they're currently 6th and in good contention for a play-off spot (Can't go up though due to being a "B" team.

I admit I didn't bother looking for an article that actually got the quotes right, but I heard the interview on (I think on Rovers TV), and my point was he put the word HOPE in there, pointing out that he did not promise anything. I take your point though. Sorry about that. :xmas:

I'm not taking Kean's comments literally, but when he says he 'hopes' it means he's trying. What worries me the most is the back and forth meetings held by the owners about budgets that they presumably have already agreed on. First we'll have £5m, then we have no set amount and an audacious attempt to sign Ronaldinho, then apparantly back to £5m and no marquee signing this window. There are so much conflicting info flying around that it's the only approach that'll keep my sane right now.

I hope by the end of the window we will have signed someone, or Venky's chickens will get cut lose - and it won't be pretty. :P

Reading between the lines, I get the impression that Adam fancies the move to Ewood over the other clubs linked. Apart from not having to move, I think he maybe fancies working with Steve Kean. It just seems as though it's a badly kept secret that he wants to join Rovers.

I could be wrong though.

Don't forget he has already scored for us this season.
