Rover & Out Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Still, Venkys most certainly promised 2-3 "big" players. If not Ronaldinho himself, than others that were going to elevate the club. If they lied about that, I guess they lied about investing anything into the club - that is certainly the case so far. My understanding was that Venkys had a long-term vision for the club, i.e. it's not going to happen overnight. They may want to bring in 2-3 'big' players, but could you name any such players that are available in this market? I don't know whether there was any real truth in the Ronaldinho story but I believe it was an example of opportunism on their behalf; they saw a player of that quality available for a comparatively small amount and they had a go at trying to get him. I agree that there will come a point when we should question their motives but that point certainly isn't at the end of this transfer window. We're not Man City, we're not going to buy three players in the hope that one of them will come good. We need to bring in the right players at the right prices and that will take time.

Guest Walshy Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 ...like who? Santa Cruz, Collins, Adams....these are the "improvements"? I suppose Adams might be better than nothing, but if some player from Blackpool is all that we can hope for, we're not going anywhere. Shearer was at Southampton when we spent a then record of 3.3 million. Doesnt matter what team they come from its the talent they have and carry onto the pitch and the impact they will have
FourLaneBlue Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 ...like who? Santa Cruz, Collins, Adams....these are the "improvements"? Yes, they are all improvements to our squad.
hawkiiz Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 My bad, they aint like Doncaster then, more like Watford. Point being if you haven't moved to the proper Barca team by 20 you'll probably never get there so no one should be that suprised if he joins us from "Barcelona". How many more times... LINK = http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Blackburn-manager-Steve-Kean-is-being-linked-with-moves-for-Ronaldinho-and-David-Beckham-but-claims-hes-more-concerned-with-building-a-solid-squad-worthy-of-the-Premier-Leagues-top-10-article663597.html QUOTE = ""We are looking at bringing in around four players, which is a lot of business in comparison to other clubs," he added. "We will be having a press conference (on Friday) ahead of the QPR game and at least getting one or two bodies in before then." The word "hope" isn't used but that is niether here nor there as my original point of Kean raising expectations uneccessarily (like he's done again by making similar comments about the Chelsea game) still stands. I did not call Kean a "liar" which you have said and not retracted yet, nor am I "upset" that we didn't sign anybody. All I want is for Kean to STFU about bringing people in until he's actuially done it...why is that so irrational or hard to understand? I think you have me and Venky's mixed up there mate. If it's not people falsely accusing me of saying others are liars, I'm now being called one! But like Hawkizz I doubt you'll come back with any proof or quotes where I have lied. You seem to be disagreeing with a post from nicko that he actually wrote, so actually you are calling nicko a liar. Fine by me but at least level your accusation at him and not the messenger. Look at Rovers tv and you will see that AFTER the QPR match he says he is hoping to bring players in this week. This is BEFORE the QPR game. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/01/05/2291887/blackburn-rovers-interim-manager-steve-kean-praises-team? "It's ongoing [pursuit of players] and hopefully we'll have some information before the weekend." I wasn't able to find the video/sound clip to show you, but that's it. Now I never meant to say anything about you personally, and I don't think I did. Happy?

So basically the difference between not having a pot to ###### in, as was the case with the Walker trust, and Venkys, is that sometime, in the future, many transfer windows from now, if the right circumstances arise, we might get to buy a player.
Valois Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Spurs with their Beckham publicity stunt still going on then, boring.

Which means we are in a better position. (The debt is also being cleared, you failed to mention that minor point)

Right, so that's every team in the Premiership and the majority of the Championship.

Well there's no shame in a club with money, however much it may be, admitting defeat in not being able to find anybody suitable to bring in during a transfer window. I'd love to see some new faces in the next couple of weeks, but not many of the ones that have been mentioned on here recently. With the exception of Adam, I don't see any suitable and available targets in this window.
Jackson Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sports-news/Holloway-has-talks-with-Adam.6686700.jp Salient quotes: "The chairman has told me of two enquiries about Charlie. They have both been told very politely that unless it is an astronomical fee which takes the club forward we don't need to sell," said the boss. "We are a well-run club and we have him for 18 months, so thank you very much. If you want him that much why didn't you buy him off Rangers? "So of course I think he'll still be here come February 1. I see no reason why he won't be." Holloway met with Adam, 25, after training yesterday to discuss the interest from other clubs. The manager revealed: "I wrote down some teams I would definitely love him to go to. I asked him to fill out his own list. Maybe he has a few more he might consider, so I'll be interested to see that list," added the manager. "But Charlie knows how far he has come with me. I told him what I wanted to do for him and it hasn't changed. "I want him to go to a much bigger and better club than us, and I want him to go to a strong club which is in a good position and not a weak position – and that isn't happening at the moment. "Charlie has known all along that I want him to benefit but until I get the right phonecall from the right type of people he is going to crack on with us and keep doing what he does for us." Why do I get the feeling an honest list by CA would have at least 19 teams on it? Why do I get the feeling that Holloway's list will be Chelsea, Man U., Tot. and City, knowing that they do not and will not ever want him. What a prat. Sounds like a desperate last gasp effort to retain.

What a prat. Sounds like a desperate last gasp effort to retain. Why on earth should his list include Rovers? He doesn't sound like a prat at all, of course he is trying to hold onto a good player.
Jackson Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Who can blame him? If our players were being linked with Villa, Birmingham and Sunderland we'd want to hear the same thing. We aren't Blackpool.
True Blue & White Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Who can blame him? If our players were being linked with Villa, Birmingham and Sunderland we'd want to hear the same thing. This. Funny how our fans have become arrogant of all of a sudden. It annoys the hell out of me when people say "why would X want to join Blackburn?" so I'm not going to do the same to Blackpool.

Jackson Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Why on earth should his list include Rovers? He doesn't sound like a prat at all, of course he is trying to hold onto a good player. Why on earth should he even be giving a parental list of approval to a free thinking adult.
chris Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 why would Blackpool seel him now, he might get a few goals to keep them up, and could still sell him in the summer for good value.
FourLaneBlue Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 We aren't Blackpool. No, and we aren't Sunderland or Villa either with the capability of getting a gate of 40,000 on. We are who we are. However, why should any manager roll over and let us take their best players away from them? Why on earth should he even be giving a parental list of approval to a free thinking adult. Because he reckons those clubs won't likely be in for Adam and he will get to keep his star midfielder. Why are you annoyed at Holloway for doing his job? I think Steve Kean should be taking this approach with Samba and saying that unless it is at least one of the Champions League contenders with an excellent offer, you ain't going nowhere.
Rover & Out Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 If we only signed Adam in this transfer window I would be happy. I'm with you on that. Bringing Adam in would represent a good window for us, with a view to sorting our squad out properly in the summer.
brigrover Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 ...like who? Santa Cruz, Collins, Adams....these are the "improvements"? I suppose Adams might be better than nothing, but if some player from Blackpool is all that we can hope for, we're not going anywhere. Adam is a definate improvement on our current centre midfield and personally think he is a very good player. I know Dunn is a BRFC lad and has put in some great performance over the years, but I would have Adam in the team ahead of him without a doubt. I've picked Dunn out really because he is of a similar mould.
Jackson Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Because he reckons those clubs won't likely be in for Adam and he will get to keep his star midfielder. Why are you annoyed at Holloway for doing his job? I guess I'm annoyed because it's a tad transparent. Drawing up imaginary an unobtainable lists with the kiddies just strikes me as a little retardish. I'd just slap a 10m price tag on the lad and avoid all this BS.
brigrover Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I'm with you on that. Bringing Adam in would represent a good window for us, with a view to sorting our squad out properly in the summer. me too by the way can we keep the transfer chat down in here, this is where people argue about the integrity of our owners
