Heard from a good source matt Derbyshire is staying at fernhurst lodge, I've just seen his Audi on the car park. I believe he went out earlier this morning, what's all that about ???

If you are implying that he is in talks with Blackburn, then I think that is unlikely. The reason why is that he recently stated that he wanted to reunite with Bentley in Birmingham.

I work in Darwen and on the way home (back to Blackburn) I regularly see Derbyshire at the petrol station at the bottom of Craven's Brow (which is only just up the road from the Fernhurst) I would expect he's up to see family or some friends.

Mercerman re :-

"You have never seen Rochina - neither have I - but you don't fancy him. I didn't say that, I questioned whether we need him given other priorities and a limited budget (also, I probably know more about him than you as I have a friend, whose opinion I respect, who lives in el Masnou and he has seen him!)."

I am sure that Kean said that they were looking at what he described as "development" players - i.e. ones for the future. Seems sensible to me. You are also assuming that we have a limited budget - we won't know this until end of January.

It is clear from Kean's interviews that he clearly knows we have a need for players to bolster the first team squad - but he is also looking longer term. He is under the impression - right or wrong - that the budget is sufficient for both. All sounds like good planning to me.

The main reason it's unlikely is that he's worse than the four strikers we have already.

Birmingham are woeful up front yet he still can't get a game.

Sorry, the post came out a bit wrong ;)

No probs.

I thought he notched two last week, but hey what do I know?

Why the hell are we after Rochina & RSC when we have Kalinic, M. Diouf, Roberts, Benjani and Blackman, a young lad who's proved he can score goals in the SPL.

I think you answered your own question there ;)

Blackman may be decent, but with all due respect, I think my Gran could score 40 goals a season in the SPL

Adam is a decent player, but £8m? Over-priced!

Derbyshire being worse than all 4 of our strikers? So he's slower and worse at finishing than Roberts/Benjani?........

He's worse than all four strikers.

There will be quicker players and better finishers in League 2 than there is in the Premier League, but there is so much more than that to making it at this level.

I don't know why you stuck that sarcasm on the end, you wrote about his car not his ability, and my post didn't even quote yours.

For what it's worth, his two goals were against a Championship side, that's his level.

Yes the SPL is a lesser standard when compared with the EPL, but the kid is only scoring against what is put infront of him. A side (whether it's Rovers or not) can only benefit from a player who is brimming with confidence from netting 10 in 18.

There is indeed. But I still can't agree that Matt Derbyshire is a worse striker than Benjani and Jason Roberts I'm afraid!

He is. Benjani did more against Liverpool then Derbs ever did when he started at Rovers. As an impact sub he was effective, but you cant start shelling out decent money for mere impact subs. If he wasnt a Rovers boy I doubt many people on here would regard him as decent.

DERBYSHIRE...news of a Rovers return is news to his agent.

BLACKMAN...only possible explanation is that his contract was up in the summer and this is to avoid losing him...there is little chance that he will make the first team...strange one...he was talking to two clubs last weekend and asking for decent wages too.

So, as I predicted, we talked a lot about signing Ronaldinho and other marquee signings, then talked about proven Premier League players like Duff, Santa Cruz and Adam, but in the end we are just getting some kid from Barcelona, who has never played at the top level in his life.

I can see a clear and established pattern here.

I think - to add support to this - we are after a midfield player that couldn't make it in the SPL !

It amuses me that people are SO against Maradona - but were jumping through hoops at the prospect of signing Mutu. Hypocrisy, much? :D

Perhaps you have not read any of the well reported remarks attributed to Maradona over the last few years Mark? In which he has allegedly made various remarks about his feelings of utter contempt and hatred for all things British, and especially English.
