Done...not played for ages...wild wages...ties up the final loan.

Apart from that. Not much.

Cant see which player we wouldve gotten on loan?

Ramsey? Injured for a long time. Will take him a couple of months to get back to form (at least).

Vela? maybe.

SWP? Pointless.

Bentley is the only one I wouldve taken over Roque. But we didnt want him did we?

Don’t understand the negative remarks regarding Santa Cruz.

Its clear to me that first of all under the Walker trust we’d not have been in for Roque, so that’s a plus point for the new owners.

We sold him for 17m in 2009, he possibly returns on a loan deal with an option to buy, great bit of business surely.

Santa Cruz is a proven premiership striker given a run of games and fitness. Now whilst fitness is obviously of concern, we lose nothing if he can’t get fit, but if he does, we inherit a striker who scored a goal every two games for us, during his time here.

It’s a complete no brainer to take him back for me.

Totally agree.

People have forgotten just how good he was when he stayed fit and was in our team, and that includes the second season he was with us.

I'm not going to pretend fitness isn't an issue, but I believe he's been fit all this season so we can only hope for the best, knowing that the best is very good.

I am pretty sure he agreed. Why wouldn't you want a player like that in your team if somebody else is willing to pay for it and it doesn't come out of your budget?

Because it will make him a LAUGHING STOCK with all the worlds media LAUGHING and SNEERING at us.

Obviously. He should have tried to sign someone more realistic, salt of the earth character. A Joey Barton or Kevin Davies type player because that's all we should aspire to.

So he agreed with an idea put forward by the owners - as any yes-man would I suppose.

I'm sure Kean would have welcomed Ronaldinho if the deal had come off but it does appear to contradict your statement that Kean makes the decisions on signings and no one else.

The manager decides on signings.

I am sure if you came up with a good idea he would consider it and then make a final decision.

Have you got any positive suggestions?

I suppose BFS would have said No then??

Who do you think we should have gone for Niko? This isnt a dig, just interested on your opinion of who would be the ideal striker for BRFC.

I would have signed Shane Long from Reading. Good player who has come again after a bad run.

If Roque is costing £2 million for the rest of the season then Long would have been worth it - at whatever the price is.

Not for me to decide - it's the manager's job according to you.

The point is, who is pulling the strings with regards to signings - Kean or the owners ?

What if owners fancy a player and the manager does not want him - is he going to say no ?

Shane Long? On his best day will be a decent player, better suited to the lower reaches of the PL. Cant see him making it.

But maybe Coyley will take a punt? ;)

That's what nicko's been saying for weeks, and we keep going round in circles.

Ronaldinho is a special case - the way Kean talks about it, he would have been on the list, but he didn't consider that he'd ever even talk to us. The owners were willing to float some serious cash to bring a marquee name in, and Kean said that IF they got to the stage where Ronaldinho flew in for talks, he'd make the decision on whether we signed him or not.

If you were the manager and Mrs Desai told you there was a chance of signing Drogba, would you turn it down because you're the one who makes the signings?

I think you're doing Kean a disservice. I suspect the owners would not find him just saying yes because he's scared to say no. I think, from what I've seen and the way he has handled himself amid all the negative publicity, that he has more about him than many realised. However, since the players the owners seem to be suggesting are generally of the superstar variety, I don't think any manager, yes-man or bolshy little so-and-so, would say no.

Shane has been in great form of late for Reading and has been a breath of fresh air in the Green shirt in place of Keane on a few occasions recently too. Great little terrier and actually has a fairly decent eye for goal to go with the effort.

Have a word with Keany when you next see him Nicko ;)

decent player. maybe sign him in the summer when Benjani, Roberts and MB(unless we sign him) leave.

Is the Roque Santa Cruz loan deal include an agree fee incase we wanted to sign him permanent?

Has that happened yet?

No.

Did Kean say on the recod that he would want to meet Ronaldinho and be sure he wanted football not fun before he agreed to the deal?

Yes.

Under-estimate this guy at your peril.

You are going to end up looking daft by thinking he is a puppet...

I did stress 'end up' as I am cutting you some slack.

Those two things do NOT sit together.

There is certainly a story going around (with names of players involved) that the list of transfer targets compiled from Steve Kean's meeting with the Rovers scouts got amended when SEM saw the list and struck off one, maybe two names whom they (SEM) felt they could not do business with. Hoarau at PSG was the definite name I heard of being removed.

My view is that Kean is showing commendable fortitude but at the very least he must be feeling deeply indebted to certain individuals. At the same time there have been the odd slips of the silvry tongue which give the conspiracy theorists evidence that Kean was not innocent of the carry on behind the backs of the Chairman and Manager. The chuckle brothers and sister over in Pune have landed him deep in it at times as well of course but he can hardly be held responsible for our startstruck new ownership.

I don't think so.

But if Roque does well then it would be a hard one to stop him re-joining permanently.

This IS the first Venkys signing, so they will be hoping it pays off...

They might even open a branch in Asuncion.

And who would be putting those stories round, I wonder.

Perhaps I need to expand on my statement for the schoolboys on here, if I were the manager and I didn't fancy a player, including Drogba, I would turn it down. It's a question of who is control of the team - the owners or the manager. Sam to his credit refused to bend to the owners and paid for it with his job.

I thought he belongs to the lower end of the PL but since you didnt I thought it could interest Bolton! :rover:
