[Archived] Transfer Window Part 3

if he thinks, the players being mentioned are bad, then so be it, but that doesnt mean, he has to scour the world for talent. Ive never understood such "logic".

You've ignored the main point though really haven't you?

They've never hidden their intentions.

They want a football club to raise the profile of their business, as a result of which they want to expand and make more money from their business.

To do this, their going to have to make a success of this venture, and that means making Blackburn Rovers successful.

Spot on. :tu:

We cannot possibly make a judgement one way or another until FEBRUARY 1st.That is when we will have seen PROOF of their intentions and transfer budget. Then and only then will be the time to judge this transfer window and our owners.

Personally,i will be amazed if we aren`t stonger as a team by the time the transfer window closes.

Come on Jim you’re better than all this sniping, let the inmates run the asylum for goodness sake.

yep.

Tell you what though Gav, we do seem to have an influx of posters who have an awful lot to say and very little of it to do with making any kind of interesting footballing points.

Well yes, but the question is do they have the ability to get their act together and do that?

Absolutely, you’d think all this money washing around for Ronny, they’d be able to buy a good quality midfield playmaker, time will tell.

The £20m over three years for Ronaldinho was supposed to be heavily subsidised by the increased ticket sales, shirt sales, international interest and so on. Spending that kind of money on someone who isn't a superstar won't generate the same amount of interest.

Not that I think that Ronaldinho boost to the coffers would have lasted once people saw what he was really about, but that seems to have been what Venkys had in mind.

Perhaps I need to expand on my statement for the schoolboys on here, if I were the manager and I didn't fancy a player, including Drogba, I would turn it down. It's a question of who is control of the team - the owners or the manager. Sam to his credit refused to bend to the owners and paid for it with his job.

Not what you said though. You said that if Mrs Desai told you there was a chance of signing Drogba you'd turn it down. Not that you'd decide whether you fancied him at the club and then say yes or no. Just because she suggests players doesn't mean she's wrong and the manager should automatically say no. And I personally feel he'd think about Drogba, and then probably say yes cos it would be a good idea, even at his age with his attitude and supposed illness. He's still a good player. The suggestion wouldn't come from him, but the decision whether he wants him or not would be his, and I don't think he'd take a player he didn't want. And why is it that you have to decide we're all schoolboys because we don't happen to agree with you. Can't even get gender right! Or perhaps I shouldn't say I'm female because of course women know nowt about anything other than babies and cooking do they! :D

I myself will not be judging the signings on Feb 1st.

There are many transfer windows in their plans. I will start judging them based on how the players brought in begin to perform for the club after having time to settle. I won't be able to make a fair judgement for a good few years. It takes a while for these things to grow.

This Feb 1st thing annoys me, though not as much as those judging now.

Time will tell. They've more chance if we give them the opportunity to.

I'm pleased with the change in philosophy and the recent results of the manager they put in place, and I for one am happy with the signing of Santa Cruz and the type of player we've been linked with this window.

My only gripe the the way in which they sacked Allardyce, and some of the PR was avoidable.

Room for improvement, but this is a new experience for them. Reasons to be positive though, and i'm a cynical person.

So this thread is mainly about if we should transfer Venky's/Kean/Jensen/Anderson/SEM/Kentaro out the window? I.e. "Transfer Window"? Or is it mainly about new players coming in and old ones going out? Too much talk that belong in the "Beginning of a new era" or similar. You old boys who have been here for ages should know better! We poor lurkers have to read post upon post of esteemed members slagging each other off. Tough times for both F5, eyes and right arm. I must admit I prefer vague transfer-related rumours to this. Back to lurking! :rover:

(Yeah...I know I'm contributing to the debate by this post. Mods feel free to delete. Old boys feel free to tear me to shreds!)

They've got the opportunity Shillito. Nowt we say on here is going to make any difference.

Just making a response to the people who say they haven't gone into to this to fail. That doesn't mean they wont though, does it. Maybe they will, hopefully they wont. They're a long way off convincing me yet.

As for Rocky, well I don't see the point of it. Get's us absolutely nowhere. - and I like the guy as a player, but don't think we'll see too much of him. He's certainly not the future, is he!

Steve Kean himself said he wanted 4 players by the end of the window,if we were to sign 4 cheap duds and sell the likes of Samba,Jones,Olsson etc then i think it would be fair to make a negative judgement.

On the same basis if he gets in 4 players that make the club stronger without weakening the first team, then it would be fair to also make a positive judgement.

The point i`m making is some people have already made their minds up and we aren`t even halfway through yet, which i feel is unfair to both the new owners AND Kean.

At the moment the club is still at a level where the 'future' is the next twelve months, ie. make sure you're still in the league.

In this sense Santa Cruz is the future. Once the team is a fixture in the top half, then we can worry about three or four years ahead.... Maybe!

That's your 80th plus post in the past 24 hours - more than 3 times as many as the next member.

Some would say you have messageboard diarrhorea - with content of similar quality.

How about staying on topic, you absolute dullard. I bet some* would say you have messageboard diarrhoea (you seem to have added an extra "r") as well, although with content of slightly lower quality.

* = a lot of persons

Den. I agree you can have opinions from day 1 about the new owners.

But as s15 said. Based on what they have done already I can see why they did sack Sam, appoint Kean. As he said the only problem I have thus far with the new owners is their PR problems. Other wise I am overall happy with what I've seen so far.

I will also be happy with them if they don't splash the cash during the January transfer window based on earlier January transfer windows both our club and others. I think I've never seen a good January signing which I have been wishing it was us.

Apologies for that dear lady. You've obviously more idea on football than some of the "boys" on here. And I'm sure your home-made plum duff puddings are delicious.

On a general point I wish the football authorities would get rid of transfer windows. Various managers over the years including Sam Allardyce and Steve Coppell see them as an unwelcome distraction and have called for them to be abolished in favour of the previous system, where deals could be struck throughout the season. I have to say I agree with them

Just to take this really off-topic.

I ate plum pudding for the first time this Christmas when my brother in law from London celebrated christmas with us in Norway. Not my cup of tea.

You could always borrow an Americanism that might be able to both limit movement and reduce some of the distraction.... Bring in the "trade deadline" concept. So basically, instead of 2 windows (preseason and mid seaon) you just have one large window (off season and into the first half of the season)... prevents some mass scurry to sign players for the final run in to secure safety, or mass sell offs in season in the case of doomed teams, etc...

Sure, there's still a distraction as the window closes, but that should be lessened by the hype leading into a smaller open window.

In any case, I'll be happy to see Santa back. And I'm sure anyone who kept old Santa Cruz #9 kits will as well! :) He has the class we need up front when he is fit. I wish it didn't take up our 2nd PL loan slot, but I don't think there's anyone else available, made of his quality, and in a position of need to fill that slot... and the slot is better used than unused, I believe.

The ultimate history of Venky's ownership won't be written for years and years to come... This idea of summing them up now, or in Feburary, or after the next pre-season is a trolling arguement at all levels. We all have thoughts on them now, and those will change over time. Heck, if Uncle Jack's splurges had simply made Rovers a great team, but never saw us lift the title, how would his legacy have been different? Still a local boy made good who brought potential glory... but would he be as loved if we weren't a prem winning club? What's the quote... history is written by those who survive it? We all have opinions now, and we might think we know the end result, but things will change. Anyone claiming right now that they know exactly how Venky's ownership will unfold is delusional. So comment, and let others comment. Absorb it all... and fear or excitement, take it all in. But sniping each other over mistaken understandings of superior intellect is droll at best.

<------------------------ Whats with the warning still? I havent said a word (well maybe a few, by proxy, but nothing serious) in months. I'm a good boy, I am.

I still have one on my forum record from the summer of '08. Was perfectly justified (both my post, and the warning I got) at the time. But I chuckle whenever I see it.

Me too. The transfer system as it was with a deadline later in the season to prevent clubs buying players to suddenly affect the outcome of the season was fine. You bought players if and when yu needed them and the club that owned them was prepared to sell. Now it all has to be done in a rush and if you suddenly get all your club's right backs or whatever injured just after the window shuts then tough. The window leads to clubs stockpiling players they might otherwise be prepared to offload just in case and also means that younger players get even less chance to progress as a consequence.
