Since the start of last season 08/09

Collins, G2 A 0

Samba G8 A4

It's not just Samba in defence we would be missing. His presence in the opposition box is massive and not just the fact he is 6'4".

Can you do similar analysis to show goals conceded by team when playing?

Ultimately a defenders job is to defend, so would be interested to see those stats as well.

Thank god it seems Givet isn't seriously injured but the thought he might have been yesterday clarified a couple of issues:

1) Whilst Jones is injured Samba must be told he isn't going anywhere until summer at the very least.

2) A specialist left back is a priority after the midfield has been sorted and maybe another striker has come in.

As for a Samba/Collins swap, do me a favour. I know any transfer deal is grist to nicko's mill because it gives him something to write about but it doesn't mean it necessarily makes sense for the clubs concerned.

See your point, but this was under the Sam style of play, where Samba was a massive focal point of every set piece attack.

I don't think having a 6'4" CB is going to be such a focal point of our attack, going forwards.

Surely you would need to be comparing individual errors ;) apart from the hint of sarcasm that is. Apologizes if it was not intended.

But as you asked, he's a starter.

10/11

Collins missed 3 games: W 3-0 L 6-0 L 2-0

Samba missed 4 games: L 2-1 L 2-0 W 3-1 L 3-0

Only problem with offering Samba a new highly paid deal is that we'd have to give one to every regular starter in the team.

We've not won anything, he didn't score 15 goals last season, why would he deserve one?

He was all too happy to sign a 5 year deal last year and is contracted to us until 2014. He hasn't got any better since then, he's just as good as he's always been. If he doesn't like it, he should sack the agents who told him it would be a good idea.

If he wants to leave, tough. The only way we should let him go is that if a big club offering big money come in and pay for him. Like City had to do (misguidedly) for Santa Cruz.

Swapping for players of lesser quality and amounts of cash that won't pay for a decent player's wages is not a deal that will work in the best interests of Blackburn Rovers.

Problem I have so far is Venkys gameplan was to buy good young players but we don't seem to be pursuing any youth. We should be looking for young gems. Players like nzonzi and holliet. What's the point in loaning Santa cruz and paying 2 million in wages for the rest of the season when we could use that 2 million on someone like Connor wickham or a foreign import who looks the real deal.

It must be obvious to all and sundry that Venky's are following the Walker trust in saying that we cannot buy before we sell so their promise of £5m plus in the January transfer window (and the ludicrous £20m bid for Ronaldinho) were all pie in the sky.

Jones would have been the first to go before his injury and it seems Samba will be the next to leave to finance a very average player in Collins and a demotivated, declining player in Warnock.

If this the new era bring back Sam and the Walkers.

Where has this statement come from?

What evidence do you have to back it up?

Life should be simple.

Every player has a price on his head - if Cahill is worth £20m then so is Samba.

Villa - "have you got £20m, no then (Oooops)off, no deal."

Samba - "Chris, we think you are terrific, here's an improved contract, take it or leave it. If somebody offers us £20m then you can talk to them, until then, play and enjoy your football and show that you are worth the money".

Easy. Isn't it ?

According to Wiki Collins is 6'4 too.

Last season Villa conceded 39 goals where Collins formed a partnership with Dunne, Blackburn conceded 55. I have seen Collins play a number of times and a number of my friends are Villa season ticket holders and they would be loathe to lose him as they feel he is their best defender. I want Samba to stay but if we get Warnock (our own player of the year) and Collins in exchange IF Samba tries to instigate a move to Villa park, then I would be happy with that swop, considering Warnock cost over £8 million two seasons back and Collins over £5 million.

This could not be a more irrelevant comparison. Villa were a better team all-round than us last year, of course they conceded less. Kyrgiakos probably saw his team concede less goals when he played too, doesn't mean we should swap him for Samba.

Nicko - While I understand your comments on Samba and you postive comments on Keen who I also like the sound off and think he is off to a pretty good start.

The thing I cant get my head round was after Keen Returned from india he did an interview with Talksport we he said he had spoke to Chris and belived Samba had bought into the vision that he and Venky's had and was shortly after given the captaincy back. Why was he given it back if he was still going to leave it makes no sense?
