Now Salgado has made the right back spot his own Emerton is surplus to requirements.

Not sure about that. I like Salgado and love his attitude but he's not a long term solution at right back. Emerton on the other hand looked very good in that position before his injury and I'd like to see him go back there and / or alternate with Salgado. Brett, like Salgado, is a good character too. So I'd keep both Emerton and Diouf but look to shunt out the real hangers-on in the squad. We all know who they are.

Id like to see that Kyle Walker from Villa come in as our right back!!!!

Berts main asset is that he can do a shift at full back, right wing and midfield. Problem with him is that thats it, he's a utility player and thats that. He's probably best at right back but if Salgado left and he became our first choice right back we'd surely be looking to replace him.

He is a loanee from Spurs.

Was on loan at QPR and was a more consistent performer than Taraabt- they are going to miss having him enormously as they push for promotion.

1. I didn't realise that you know him personally. Odd though cos most on here who have met him speak very highly of him. I guess you must have caught him on a bad day.

I dont need to know him personally. I've based that opinion after he's being playing here for almost ten years! If you like him then fair play to you. I just think he's a muppett

2. If we are to get rid of every one of our 'attacking players who don't score enough goals and contribute very little' then we'll be just left with MGP! And Brett Emerton should be dispensed with immediately.

Good point!!!!

why do people want to get rid of emerton - yeh we might be getting in larsson but emerton over diouf any day ..he is getting older but hes probably just as fit as the younger players ..he has fantastic energy and his ability to play in 4 positions is also a plus also ..

Personally I think while Emerton is great overlapping defensively he is a total liability. Poor in the air and not a great tackler on the floor I think quality wide players can bully him easily. A specialist right back to replace Salgado when the time comes is a necessity.

Because he's not good? I really don't rate Emerton at all, if we were having a clear-out (which I hope we are before long), he would be one I'd like to see move on! He can play in a number of positions, and RB is probably his strongest, I'd still rather see us get a specialised RB instead!

i must be the only one who rates him ..hes a solid professional ...having players playing in their specialist positions is important but once injuries occur you need players like emerton - and look we have had injuries - and hes stepped in to play different positions ..i say keep - even if hes not in first 11 - for the squad

Why are people talking about getting rid of Emerton ? has it been suggested that we are looking to get rid or something because I haven`t seen anything linking Emerton with a move away. Emerton is a good squad man, a good servant to the club and can do a job when required.

On an actual transfer related note, does anyone know what the issue was in terms of the Barca kid, and what it was that caused it to go backwards a little bit on Friday ? (if it was Roch*** that was beign reffered to)

Bent from Sunderland to Villa. £18m. ODD move!

Does that mean Villa has now spent what they have to spend, and are no longer anything we should care about? Sunderland on the other hand must be looking for strikers...

I'm lost?

What? Where is this? I find that hard to believe. What happened to Villa not having much more money to spend? I thought O'Neill left because they were closing the purse strings, why then go on a £24 million spending spree? Panic at a relegation fight? And Bent is stupid if he wants that move. Not that it wouldn't improve them a lot.

Or they are spending big to stay in the league which could mean a bid for samba but would they have another £10m, at least, that we want.
