would you be happy if we signed him for 18 million?

personally i would think it would be a waste of money, probably about 12 million over the odds

january = silly season

If we had the cash then I would be more than happy to take him, he guarantees goals. A decent creative midfielder, and a Darren Bent would have us pushing for a top 6 finish, absolutely no doubts about it.

You seriously think Darren Bent is only worth 6 million? The same price Wigan paid for Boselli? I think you need to have a look at his stats, his only full season he failed to get into double figures was his first season at Spurs.

I will agree that the prices for footballers are out of control, but that is how it is, and if you want a proven PL goal scorer, you have to dig deep.

He's not good technically, he's not an intelligent footballer, he can't strike a ball cleanly and his shots never seem to be particularly towards the corner. But some how he always seems to bundle the ball in.

That's an invaluable skill.

And I'll say again, Sunderland have said 18 million isn't enough. It just said on Look North.

Definitely don't think 18m is overpiced at all.

There was an interesting stat on sky. Drogba and Rooney are the prems top scorers over the last 5 years, both with 82 goals.

Darrent Bent is just 1 behind them on 81 goals in the last 5 seasons, playing for poorer teams in charlton and sunderland, and a spurs team who were nowhere near as good as they are now! At 26 he is only just reaching his peak years as a striker. So to suggest 18 million is over priced for him is ludicrous.

Exactly, and Rooney and Drogba both moved for bigger fees than the £24m mentioned for Bent, before they were proven at this level. I don't think he's a £24m footballer, but he's certainly a £24m goalscorer.

We flogged Santa Cruz for circa £18million, Bent is better, quicker, younger and plays more games in a season than Santa, and probably will bag more goals in the seasons to come. The way things are in football unfortunately prices are high, if you want top players, you have to pay top dollar.

If we signed Darren Bent and paid £18million for him, i would be over the moon.

Been talking to a colleague in Solihull who's a Villan - news down there is that bid has been accepted, will rise to £24m and Bent is travelling to the Midlands at this moment to discuss personal terms..

There's a bit of news on three of the current targets...usual time.

Probably Adam, Larrson and the young barca striker then

Could we put a bid in for Bent? Could help us finish in the top 7

Don't understand why linganzi is to be sold, looks a far better prospect than Lowe.

I think if he does well at Preston he may be given a chance.

Linganzi only lasted 45 minutes on Saturday, not sure whether that was because of injury or a reflection on his 1st half performance...

With regards to Darren Bent, £18-£24m well spent if he scores enough goals to keep them up this year.

Thats the price you pay nowadays, right or wrong, for a proven Premiership goalscorer.

I don't think they are all that. I would rather we gave the opportunity to the academy kids. They are our future. We need to be seen to be giving the home grown kids a chance.

Shame Bent isn't south american. Because if the Rao's were serious about a marquee signing, Bent wouldn't be a bad shout. His goals alone would take us up 2-3 places in the table.

my first post on here so hello everyone. I spoke to a North End mate of mine on Saturday and he said that Linganzi went off injured but he was awful before that. I would be very impressed if we made a bid for Bent but I really can't see it happening. We really need to pull out all the stops for Charlie Adam because he looked good on the MOTD highlights and I think he is a far better central midfielder than any of the others in our squad

With £20m cash to spare from the failed Ronaldinho bid shouldn't we be in the market for Bent ?

Allegedly.

I'd prefer a £20m midfield kingpin.

Yeah because Bent has world marketing appeal.

He couldn't even get into the England squad regularly (last three managers).

Continue to show your idiocy. It amuses me

Just goes to show how quick these things can go through. Amazing. This may however push along the Adam saga if Sunderland are really interested. The Jan window certainly has it's faults but it provides a whole lot of entertainment also.

In terms of the difference he could make on the pitch I would agree with you and say he would rpob be a better signing for us than Ronaldinho.

However the Ronaldinho bid was partly self funding and also about promoting the club and raising our world imgae, something Bent wouldnt do.

Spewing I didn't do the Darren Bent tale last night. Thanks to a couple for giving me early hints on that. You live and learn.

Back to the day job.

Wonder if Jones is still just a target. It´s probably about Jones and two Barca boys.

i must be the only one who rates him ..hes a solid professional ...having players playing in their specialist positions is important but once injuries occur you need players like emerton - and look we have had injuries - and hes stepped in to play different positions ..i say keep - even if hes not in first 11 - for the squad

And another one!

Liverpool has made contact with Villa over Downing. So that's them out of the Adam race, then? (Don't think they ever were in for Adam, but still).
