I would never pay £20m for a player that is not a England regular. He was crap at Spurs so Im just glad we dont pay silly money. Invest it on 3 really good players instead.

If we get Rochina, Jones and Vazquez its really good.

I think the Santa Cruz loan will pay off.

In Santa Cruz, Kalinic, Mame Biram Diouf, Benjani and Roberts we have enough strikers.

The midfeld is priority now!

Totally agree with the sentiment, it's obvious we're desperate to stay up and for goals hence the fee, but I do question what you've seen of any of the three players?

Santa Cruz return was good business, City are lucky they have unlimited money, they really got done by Blackburn on the sale and repurchase lol, not that I am complaining, I hate them...

But the guy is a proven Premier League goalscorer.

Not just a one season wonder like Roque, but someone who will get 20 goals a season guaranteed.

Considering todays' market and how much other players have gone for, I think £18 million is a fair fee.

IMO it's a mystery that he's only started two games for England (the other five were as sub) when we're so lacking in options up front.

Do we know what the personal terms "issues" were?

The more I think about Larsson in and Diouf out the better it seems. To be fair to him, Kean looks to be trying to get a team together to play fast attacking football and as much as I like Diouf in certain circumstances, there is no way he fits into that vision.

You think Larsson is "fast"?

If Darren Bent was such a great striker, he'd be up there with the Rooneys & the Drogbas playing for a CL side. Ruud van Nistelrooy was all about goals, too, and he played for a big side. Bent's only 'big club' was Tottenham, where he flopped. There has to be a reason for this.

I was just looking through the photos of my time at La Masia. I have attached a photo with a few familiar faces on it. One you might not recognise is our friend Victor Vasquez. He is the on the bottom row 2nd from the right. The one who is giving Messi a great big gay hug. Hope that during that contact with "The Flea" some magic might have transferred across to VV.

are we signing CJ off eggheads!?!?

he's a bigger tosser than Barton!

It's a mental thing. I said as soon as they signed Gyan it would only be a matter of time before he left.

He doesn't appear to be able deal with competition. That's probably why Harry didn't rate him nor any of the other England managers. That's probably also the reason why he's a mid table clubs.

IMO

:)

Surely though the fact that he has scored as many as Drogba and Rooney whilst playing for mid table teams shows that he could be at a top club. His strike rate is excellent.

I don't deny he's a top PL striker, but how come he could be joining Villa? Not a top four club or even Europe's elite?

Last season, yes,

5 seasons ago, with all competitions included, yes

All other seasons, No!!!

Practically 20 goals...if we only count league goals then Roque never scored 20 goals in a season.

All of these at the top level:

Ipswich

43(18)

41(16)

50(19)

Charlton

44(22)

35(15)

Spurs

36(8) - his only bad season

43(17)

Sunderland

43(25)

25(11)

Brilliant record.

It's a total mystery to me why there's so many people who think Roque is a great player and who don't think Darren Bent is.

All competitions counted, he gets close to 20 or above most seasons.

Granted I went a tiny bit overboard but his record speaks for itself.

Shall we get Roque's goal record out and compare the two?

I bet Roque gets a lot more assists

He got 8 in 43 games in his first season with Rovers, 2 in 27 in his second season and 0 in 24 games and two years at Man City.

No figures for Bent available but Roque's assists record is decent for a striker but hardly brilliant.

And the primary job of a striker is to score goals - neither Roque or Bent are the Beardsley or Cantona style of players where they create a ton of goals.

Darren Bent for £18 million is far, far better value than RSC at £18 million.

There comes a point with most players when the penny does eventually drop. Look at Clough's great Forest team that included Larry Lloyd, Kenneth Burns and 'Rotund' Robertson. In their early careers, renowned 'bad boys', rough as the proverbial and capable of drinking any bar dry. There are always the exceptions who never change. Based on Barton's form and body language this season (apart from the MGP incident), I'd put him in the former category.
