Very excited at the prospect of how we're shaping up.

This chap, Jones, RSC and hopefully Larsson, a left-back and a couple of youngsters and we'd have one of the best squads in a long time.

With the potential/probability of more to come in the summer...

They didn't exist! Ahhh the days when you could buy anyone, anytime, whenever you wanted, and pre-internet when you only found out a player had signed when you saw it on the news or in the local rag.

During the halcyon days the highlight of the working day was seeing what the lancs telgraph A-boards said outside the paper shop.....hmm paper shops, now there's another blast from the past

Formica must be the Argentinian in question then if the Mail have it. Never heard of this guy before but he sounds exactly the sort of player we should be looking for. I'd imagine the owners see high re-sale value in the lad, but who cares if he does the business.

Can anybody who watches Argentinian football tell us anything about him?

Don't trust 'SPORTSMAIL REPORTER'. Exciting to see some young talent being linked, but I won't get carried away until it's officially announced by Rovers.

Was just about to post the same, whoever broke the story would want his name in lights, wouldn't surprise me if it was lifted from the links on here earlier.

The Mail just got that story from here as usual after someone posted the twitter link.

I can't comment on Formica, but I can comment on my impression of the Argentinian league after watching three games there live a year ago. It was a lot slower paced than I expected and (obviously) very possession oriented. Not too many forward passes, and a bit lackluster to be honest. I have to say that I expected the football there to be a lot stronger than it turned out to be, but there are obviously bucketloads of gifted players there - it's just a question of whether they will adapt to the higher paced and more physical football in England.

Sorry if I have offended any Argentinians in here :P

If I played for Newell's Old Boys I'd want to leave also. Imagine having to wear the badge on your shirt.

hha classic!, so true

found this about Formica,

Blackburn, pressing for strong Mauro Formica: offered 3 million

Jump, perhaps forever, the negotiations with Genoa and Galasaray, Newell's Old Boys could now sell the Argentine midfielder Mauro Formica (22) in England.

The Argentine news agency Telam, citing sources close to the company rojinegrao, reports that the player has now abandoned the withdrawal of pre-season team led by Sensini to return to Rosario with the DS Taste Dezotti since his move across the Channel would be imminent . Blackburn Rovers would be willing to pour into the coffers of Newell's between three and four million euro. There is also the Monaco player, there is only mention of a concern.

How many Argentinian forward players have really made it over here in the last 10 years???

Not many... but there has to be an exception to the rule. Maybe this guy is the one. If he has a turn of pace he stands half a chance, the Argentinian winger at Newcastle is doing OK, he's a fair amount of pace.

If this lad has pace & technical ability, we could be on a winner... £4m, worth a punt in my view!!!

Belaji Rao is still promising a "big" name signing soon and confirms prior Beckham and Ronaldinho interest.

He also references that the Rovers will be looking over some young Indian talent and bringing over 4-5 young Indian footballers for two years at the Academy. He wants to be the first to have an Indian footballer play in the PL.

I have to say he doesn't come across as crazy as I thought. He seems a legitimate fan of the game who has more than a bit of money in his pocket. I think I would be acting like a bigger lunatic if I had just bought the Rovers and had a few million extra, though I would probably be making my gaffs with JW at my side to correct the record.

Tevez asides, Heinze was good value for Man Utd. Veron less so, despite being one of my favourite players. Crespo was ok in his first season at Chelsea but tailed off. He was also well past his prime to be fair.

Someone like Walter Samuel (at Inter) would do well in our league. Typically, I would imagine the lad would need at least a year to adjust. Angel came good after a similar amount of time to Villa.

Agentinian football is quite slow paced, sometimes negative. A bit like Seria A. Newell's are a half decent outfit there though but the reality is, all of that league's best players would jump at the chance for a big money move to Europe. Be interested to see exactly what we're getting tomorrow.

Out of curiosity, how many Argentinian forwards have played here, nevermind in the last 10 years?

Off the top of my head, I can only think of Tevez and Ardilles.

Doesn't make a great deal of difference, but isn't Angel Colombian?
