Was just looking up twitter and it seems that Formica is on his way to ewood for a reported 4.7 million euro.i can't understand the words but i presume confirmado means confirmed.

would this be the signing Balaji Rao is talking about,he seems good but you couldn't call him world class.

Formica must be the Argentinian in question then if the Mail have it. Never heard of this guy before but he sounds exactly the sort of player we should be looking for. I'd imagine the owners see high re-sale value in the lad, but who cares if he does the business.

Can anybody who watches Argentinian football tell us anything about him?

well.... he's got all the traits of the famous South American Number 10s -- which in argentina is a vanishing breed. His nickname is the Cat... which says it all really..... quick, great w/ the ball at his feet, wonderful passer of the ball. Only reason he's available is that NOB really needs the $$$ as they're one argentine club(aren't they all??) on the precipice of bankruptcy. He is very popular w/ the Italian clubs and the Turks were also sniffing about.

More importantly, his game will be a great addition to Rovers. His vision and ballskills will open up a brave new world for Rovers. My doubt falls upon the fact that Mauro's physique isn't exactly powerful and it will take him some time to get up to speed. It's definitely a gamble but with much upside!

The Mail just got that story from here as usual after someone posted the twitter link.

I can't comment on Formica, but I can comment on my impression of the Argentinian league after watching three games there live a year ago. It was a lot slower paced than I expected and (obviously) very possession oriented. Not too many forward passes, and a bit lackluster to be honest. I have to say that I expected the football there to be a lot stronger than it turned out to be, but there are obviously bucketloads of gifted players there - it's just a question of whether they will adapt to the higher paced and more physical football in England.

Sorry if I have offended any Argentinians in here :P

No..... your assessment is spot on. The league's playing speed has definitely increased in the past 15 years, however it now gives the play a ragged quality as the fitness and playing surfaces are struggling to catch up. The biggest problem down there is that the quality leaves earlier every year (Messi leaving at 13 is an aberration, however, 16-18 is not). Add the terrible administration of the set up and it's a matter of time before the Argentina game will implode.

Out of curiosity, how many Argentinian forwards have played here, nevermind in the last 10 years?

Off the top of my head, I can only think of Tevez and Ardilles.

D'Allesandro.... short term, yes. but a cracking player anywhere he's been.

Yes he is but I was meaning South American footballers in general would take time to adjust to the Premiership. He was just a recent example I could think of that was widely panned in his first year but was wildly more effective subsequently.

If we could have given Carlos Villenueva a good year under a proper manager he might have turned out alright (probably not but hey).

You were also right in throwing him into the conversation because while JP Angel is indeed Colombian, he was purchased directly from River Plate as he had exploded onto the scene playing for Ramon Diaz' side w/ Saviola, Aimar & D'Allesandro - so technically we are talking about a player making the transition from Argentina to the EPL.

So a few hours down, and still not clearer than initially.

This was broken by an Argentine journalist and due to the popularity of the player on the web, it exploded within a few minutes. He hasnt backtracked on it, but bottom line they were waiting for a "fax".

He plays behind the main striker and does not play in a 2 man central midfield. He has good acceleration for the first 5 yards, but over all is not pacy. Good vision, but a little lightweight. Genoa did not sign him because of the contract offer and NOT a failed medical.

Rovers are signing an Argentinian...not sure if it is this chap. Heard the one coming was younger. Seems odd he has missed out on joining Genoa.

There is a buy pretty close.

I can't do an 11 o'clocker tonight.

But it could be in Mirror.

Also some news on Samba and the contract he wants. That one has some way to run.

A younger Argentine? Anyone know of other young argentine kids available atm?

Nice too know a buy is pretty close though.. this is turning out too be one interesting window.

Trust me, Formica is ace. Would have gone to Milan last season apparently(Roberto to agree with or deny that rumour) there was also interest from Bayern, but nothing materialised. I will be delighted if this is true. Hope he does well, IF he signs.

Catania nearly signed him in the Summer, after tracking him for over a year. But they had spent up by August, and could not do the deal.Milan have never been after him to my knowledge.

The Genoa deal fell down because Genoa had agree to pay Newell's 600,000 Euros upfront, then the rest over 3 years. But the following morning Genoa told Newell's that they would not be able to pay anything until July.Newell's owner than said no deal and called it off.

Newell's players have been offered about because they have bad debts.

Rubin Kazan,Bordeaux,Catania,Genoa & Galatasaray have all tried to sign him in the last 6 months

Nicko, could it be Rogelio Funes Mori?

A lot of european clubs want him

19 year old striker, highly rated, Argentinian under 20 international.

Benfica trying to sign that fella.

Here's some more info from an Argentine news source;

Certainly looks like there is an agreement there and Formica is on his way to the UK to finalise the deal.

Hopefully, we'll hear some sort of confirmation from Rovers today

Exciting times indeed....

Hmm... looks like Formica is on his way then, and Rao saying Samba is one of his fave players, I doubt he will be sold, so I guess Venky's do have some cash after all. How cool! I'll gladly eat my fair share of humble pie after the rage of sacking Sam. This actually looks pretty promising. :)

Guessing the argentine move will negate us going for Adam.. fair play if the figures started too get silly for Adam.

Still interested on the odd combination of comments.. Roa talking of a world class signing, surely that must be a dif deal too Formica as he isnt there yet, Nicko talking of a younger argy lad..

So we might of got ourselves some steal in midfield, a few kids (still in negotiations), a striker with a good rep here.. and shortlisted for a few creative midfielders.. blimey we are targeting pretty much everything we need.
