Think I can answer this one, being a Swede myself. I do rate him, but I'd sooner call him "useful" than "great". He has a wicked right foot and works hard up and down the flank, but lacks the pace to be a really effective traditional winger. I'm actually surprised he hasn't moved into a central midfield or fullback position (he's been tried there in the national team, with promising results) yet, I think that would fit his qualities much better.

I could see Larsson becoming a long-term right back option at the club. He started off as one at Arsenal.

I think he could do a job there too, but he would still lack a little pace there and isn't the strongest or most physical either. Hard worker, good stamina, and a very good right foot - wouldn't get to as many crossing oppurtunities from the back though. Main question is still whether or not he is willing to play there over a longer period of time. He might want to play in midfield only.

His own words a year ago when he played fullback in the national team

A short Earth to Rovers supporters post.

The £5m budget is for wages and fees so it is about 70% spent already.

...unless Kean has returned with Mrs D's purse.

I don’t think it makes a blind bit of difference what the budget is, we’re not in for the likes of Darren Bent, but we’re active in the transfer market, far more active than we have been in recent years.

Enjoy the speculation and signings, let the club do the sums, its been a great transfer window so far and its still not over yet.

An improvement on what we already have out right.

I would rather have hoilett anyday but for that price Larsson would be a top signing, good player and I feel if needed he could play the Dunny role in midfield to a better effect.

Joe Average with a lot to prove when/if he comes here.

And your point is? Most players have something to prove when they come here. It's often why they come here. If they were already established brilliant then they'd be big money signings for a champions league or at least Europa league club. They come to us when their careers have gone wrong, when they've grown stale or when they are young and desperate for first team football to prove themselves. That's the way it's been recently. it happened with Bentley, with Santa Cruz, and in different ways with Samba, Nelsen, Friedel. If Larsson comes and does half as well for us as those, I don't care what he has to prove, because he'll be proving it.

Absolute bobbins Jal, Larrson has been one of Birminghams most consistent performers over the past few years, delivers a great free kick and final ball, something we’ve not had in years.

So I 'd take this as applying to Joey Barton aswell.

No, not really. Joey Barton is playing first team football for Newcastle United. Larsson has been benched by McLeish and is being moved on. McLeish has Bentley at his disposal now.

JAL, there is no doubt that Joey Barton would bring a lot to the team. I would love the player in our midfield, baggage and all.

However, there is no doubt there is an element of disgrace to his history, and I understand if some people wouldn't want that associated with their club.

Your seeming inability to relate to that is not only frustrating, but brings your ability to analyse a situation fully and rationally into question. This makes it hard to respect/ take seriously a lot of what you write.
