Although I can't see us signing him, that's a nonsense story. They don't have any quotes or proof that we don't have a chance of signing him, and if anything the quotes from his agents suggest they are in talks.

Bandwagon jumping journos

No thanks. He is too old now to play in the PL. leave him in argentina! Would be a complete waste of money aswell

Sorry if already mentioned - Tugay, our darling of Ewood, was never blessed with pace, was 31 when we bought him and played for 4/5 years at "the top level". Class is eternal. Given protection from our raft of defensive midfielders, the quality will come through

RIQUELME...has anybody asked if he would get a work permit?...checked that yesterday...he wouldn't.

I work for the Home Office and have a colleague who deals with work permits for professional sportsmen in a different department and he has stated that he would qualify.

If you can be bothered to click on the link you will find a very very poor piece of journalism here from Mr Harry Harris - God he hates us doesn't he?

I've posted my reply to try and balance things out a bit.

Blackburn haven't said they are signing Riquelme. Riquelme's agent Barry McIntosh has said: “I have spoken with Jerome Anderson, who is doing a lot of work for Blackburn Rovers, about Riquelme and it is being thought about. He could prove a great alternative to Ronaldinho, but there is nothing definite yet.”

The agent approached the club. The agent wants to make a deal happen, one would guess this would be with his clients consent?

As for needing less expensive, quality players McIntosh is also playing a role in Rovers’ potential signing of exciting Argentine midfielder Mauro Formica, with the 22-year-old reported to be ready to travel to England for talks. McIntosh said, “I did offer this player to Jerome Anderson for Blackburn Rovers also.

I understand he and his South American representatives are on their way to England to talk. It would have to be a permanent move as West Ham tried to sign him on loan before and that was flatly refused.

He is one of the hottest players on the scene in South America at the moment.”

Manager Steve Kean has already spoken about wanting to bring ‘development players to the club’, as well as more solid domestic signings, and Formica would fit that mould.

Newell's Old Boys general manager Gustavo Dezotti has claimed a deal is close and even told the local media “Agreements are in place,” he said when asked about Rovers. “Of course verbal agreements must be finalised and until that happens we cannot say the deal is done.”

All this information is to be found in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph article that is referred to.

Some very lazy, biased and unprofessional journalism going on here.

Doubt every word that Mr. Harry Harris puts his name to.

Indeed. That's how Derren Brown makes a living.

In case what I was saying went over your head. I don't believe we will sign Riquelme, I don't even think we have approached him. However, taking anything more from this article other than a thinly disguised attack on the club is foolish.

It's basically just poking fun at us. I wonder if the journalists at ESPN even remember us winning the league.

Even if they don't it would put into question their ability to research even the most basic of facts.

I'm not saying either of you are right, simply that you are all fast becoming parodies of yourselves.

I find this hilarious.

Last Autumn when Nicko was busily selling the advantages of Kentaro involvement in Rovers to us all, one of the big attractions was Rovers Academy would become home for Kentao's youngsters coming over from Latin America and other such places.

I posted that they would have Work Permit problems and Nicko said they wouldn't.

Now BRFCS has broken the Riquelme story and Nicko is posting he won't get a work permit. This has just been checked out and the indications are that getting a Work Permit for him is not going to be a problem and is not one of the issues which might result in Riquelme not coming to Ewood.

Over to Bucky to try to troll this post!

Hey guys, its going to be a party in Malta tonight. It look like just maybe philipl got another one right. Its true we are probably not going to be signing Riquelme.

That means philipl is shooting a record breaking, 2 right and 5678 wrong for his insider 'stories' in the last 12 months.

Congrats phil. We are proud of you.

Why all this x is wrong, x is right. Pointless on this one!

The only truth in the story is that an agent has put a big name player to an agent who has put him to Rovers to discuss - that's your lot.

No news of us making a move, no news we are een interested in him!

Just failed to mention 'and a paper fell for it' and you have the whole picture.

Doubt every word that Mr. Harry Harris puts his name to.

To be fair to Harry Harris the only possible inflammatory comments are these two sentences but many folk would also argue they are a realistic assessment of Venky's ambitions.

It is hopelessly unrealistic to believe that the players so far named would consider a move to Ewood Park.

In fact, to add to the surreal transfer goings on, Ronaldinho was already committed to a move to Brazil and signed for Flamengo from AC Milan, while former England captain David Beckham was always lined up by Tottenham.

For the record, Harry Harris worked for the Daily Mail and later the Daily Mirror for years where he specialised in the transfer rumour type stories that are also Alan Nixon's forte.

I wonder if he's related to Nick Harris ?

Don't know how much truth there is in this story. But think it would be a terrific signing, haven't seen Riquelme play for a few years now. But I'm a frequent watcher of the South Amercian World Cup qualifiers and I remember a few years back he was Argentina's best player by a distance, some of his performances where truly world-class. Would be a sort of luxury player but he has just the sort of creativity spark we are sometimes clearly missing in midfield. People mention Ronaldinho and Beckham but this guy would be a high profile signing in my opinion and probably a better signing at only 32 years old with at least a couple of seasons out of him. Would make perfect sense to me if we brought him along with fellow Argentine Formica.
