[Archived] Transfer Window Part 5

This is all very sensible. All positive indications that we'll stay up.

On the other hand, we desperately need a play making midfielder. If Venkys are serious about finishing 8th this season, they'll get one ASAP and stop playing these third party loan games.

To improve the team, yes I agree thet it is the wrong direction. To maximize their advertising possibilities, I disagree. Beckham and Ronaldinho wearing a Venkys' sponsored Rovers shirt would have done wonders for their name recognition.

From an economical perspective, Venky's has all reason to try signing players like Beckham and Ronaldinho. They would have got back the money spent on them through increased ticket sales and t-shirts. In addition, we would get LOTS of press, which is something every brand wants.

Looks like we have lost out on Formica.

Todapassion in Argentina has just put this up (in Google translation):

Formica eventually be transferred to Monaco and tomorrow travels with an entourage to Nice ending the novel traumatic summer. Bernadi confirm the information.

At 22 am today departs from Ezeiza Formica and a delegation consisting of Guillermo Lorente, Paul Morosano and Fabián Basualdo. The "cat" will be transferred to Monaco for 3.5 million euros for 3 years (minus any tax would pass of 2.66 million euros), as speculated by the versions that appeared yesterday afternoon.

Formica actually pass was a novel, remember that early last week Galatasaray expected, came after the Genoa, but when the player was with one foot on the plane fell operation, this transfer was the most frustrated traumatic all, to the point that the cat he considered leaving football. When everything suggested that the cat appeared was a holding company that would take him to Blackburn Rovers, but this operation, which also seemed closed, was not realized. In the last hours the expectation grew more and more until midnight near the player's transfer to Monaco was closed.

My bold- a holding company? ie a Tevez type of deal?

From transfort (French web site):

Monaco would like to now offer Mauro Formica, the Argentinian attacker of Newell’ S Old Boys. According to Nice Morning (Nice Matin- the local newspaper covering Monaco), it is Lucas Bernardi, the old Monegasque medium, which would have advised the player. Its transfer could border the 4 million euros.

Only yesterday, Sky Sports News were still reporting that Kean is keen on Formica and was optimistic about it happening.

"Steve Kean does not expect to bring a 'marquee signing' to Blackburn, but he is closing on Newell's Old Boys ace Mauro Formica."

However, it appears from various tweets that the player and his father did not want anything to do with Red Star Belgrade or third party ownership. Not entirely surprising considering Red Star's own players are not being paid and are cancelling their contracts!!

Who on earth is advising Rovers' owners to contemplate getting involved in this sort of rubbish deal??

I wouldn't bother signing any more players in this window to be honest. With the players we have already coming back and the two new acquisitions both of whom have directly strengthened the first team, I think too much activity would disrupt the squad. Besides which, I don't want us wasting money on average players.

The only signing which I wouldn't mind is Sebastian Larsson, not sure how much anyone else has seen of him but if he had a longer contract, he'd be going for about six million, I reckon. Fabulous engine and a great distributor of the ball, he would definately improve our squad.

Pedersen's got a good engine as well, only problem is he can't get out of first gear, he's no acceleration. I think Larrson's similar ,neat and tidy Steady Eddie type player but very one paced and not much aggression. What will he bring to the team we haven't already got ? I presume he wouldn't come to warm the bench.

Allegedly he is going to be bought by a management company who are acting on behalf of Red Star Belgrade and then loaned to Rovers. I imagine that the management company are hoping that he is success and therefore can be sold to either Rovers or another club for a profit. If this is true, then the management get around the third party rules by acting on behalf of Red Star Belgrade. The only reason I can see for Rovers being interested in this kind of arrangement is that they are not 100% sure that the player will be able to perform in the Premier League, so this way they get to test him before buying him.

Reckon you've hit the nail on the head.Red Star did the same with a guy called Vukasin Devic a few years back, think Segundo Castillo was in the same boat too.

One of the Brazilian's they bought in the Summer came from an agency and not a football club.

O'Hara is crocked, I'd much rather that we went for krancjar

Agree.I think Krancjar is a great player.

Most Argies can´t break in PL. Boselli at Wigan is a good example. Birmingham had Figueroa called lad few years ago who scored huge at homeland. Did he even score for Brum? Even Tevez was in troubles first.

Would anyone bother to tell Mr. Kean he should go for Krancjar? Is Nicko developing a huge news bomb or where is he? It can´t been quiet behind the scenes now.

I don't really understand it. We're looking for creativity from midfield and there is a player available who has shown that he can do it in the league, even with a 'smaller' club and, on top of that, he is affordable and probably cheaper than some of our targets. He's young, can play a few positions and would improve our first 11 straight away. It's the kind of signing we'll pass up and then one of our rivals will be selling him back to a big club in two years for a nice profit.

He's a quality player.

How much is he valued at? £1-2 million?

Seems pretty obvious that we have no intention of spending any money on transfer fees and that anything approaching the 5m promised will simply be token payment and increased wages.

Must say I can't really fault not blowing anything on transfers. It just depreciates away to nothing over the length of a contract.

There has always been consistent emphasis on loaning/leasing players from Venky's and it would not surprise me if we didn't spend any money on transfer fees during this window.

Wonder how the wage bill will be looking soon with 6/7 players due to be getting new contracts.
