Not a bad display, added some steel to the midfield, although that was certainly a penalty. Kind of ridiculous that he got man of the match and not Junior who was outstanding though!

On today's evidence I say we probably need a Savage type player who can harry the opposition in midfield as we often lacked pressure on them making moves - our only weak point. Someone to set up more chances, although they were abundant today, would be useful also.

Jones is exactly that player though? We do need someone to create the chances though

I watched this guy closely today and was not impressed. IMO, certainly not box to box and on this evidence, not a great range of passing skills; also, looked one pace and prone to the rash challenge - how the hell we got away with the penalty that wasn't, I'll never know.

Not as good as Nzonzi and I'm certain we could do better.

What a load of rubbish! Considering that was his first game for a while i thought he played well. I bet you're also one of these who think that passing the ball around is too risky? Bring back Sam eh?

It occurred to me reading the recent posts, that what happens to MGP if we get a true creative midfielder in the squad? Does he stay a starter? If not, perhaps something is in the works which is effecting his morale? I've grown to expect better of him in recent months.

No inside track. Just wild speculation on my part in effort to figure out why, in my opinion, he was so poor.

With a bit of luck one of the top four will come on in and take this world beater off our hands ! On a realistic level he'll get blown out, why we ever extended his contract I'll never know. I'd rather have Joe Haverty and he died last year !

From what we've heard yes but he didn't play like that today, moreover he played the waiting game.

A quality bit of transfer business in my opinion-

His positional play was spot on he's really filled that hole that was there. He covered Salgado intelligently when he didn't get back in time and didn't drift out of position. A very disciplined performance. What did you expect he was doing what was asked of him he wan't meant to come forward or move out of position just provide cover and allow ollsen and Hoilett the space they needed. Granted it will take a few games to adjust but think what salgado was like when he first arrived and how off the pace he was then look at his performances recently. As for peds hes still playing too deep for his natural position its a shame really but hes not been afforded the licence to roam that he needs. Dunn looked alot sharper today though-A good transfer

What a load of rubbish! It's people like you that I hate sitting around. I thought he had a great first game and looking forward to him playing again.

First thoughts good player!

Not sure if anybody has mentioned this, but I noticed it on BBC's live text of the game:

1610: Calling all stat fans: Rovers have won five of their 11 home games this season in the league. Pretty solid. Must also inform you all that returning Roque Santa Cruz said only today that he wants to finish his career at Ewood Park. Blackburn probing with some Gamst Pedersen corners. Well contested this.

I think I might actually need some counselling for the violent thoughts I am having when hearing some of the rubbish on here. It's the same when I hear some one game a season wonders delivering a season review based on one game. I actually feel sorry for people like that, yet I feel I shouldn't let it get to me this much lol.

Great if Roque wants to stay here for many years. After all, he knows the club, he is settled in the area (with his kids in school?) and he has learned the hard way that the grass is, in fact, not greener on the other side. Hopefully he can bag alot of goals for us and yet again be our favourite goalscorer :tu:

Spot on - he made some good challenges, snapped at the heels of people who had the ball, covered the ground well and sprinted to get back in position when without the ball - some of his passes were a little suspect on occasion but had a solid first game IMO

Happy to have jones in there - completely disagree with Mercerman on that one :-)

Haha same here. I sometimes want to murder people who comment on this site / on the Telegraph website. Some peoples comments defy reason and wind me up.

I read today that Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester United will not be buying anyone in the transfer window as there is "no value" in the market at the moment. I think is spot on to be honest.

The Formica deal always had a stench of dodgy about it, with 3rd party ownership etc. Last thing we wanted was a Tevez situation on our hands. Shame as he is highly rated, but time to move on.

I'm quite happy to wait until the Summer for Larsson to come in, I don't see any point in increasing our offer, given he can leave on a free in 6 months.

Still hopeful we can get Vazquez in, heard good things about him, Rochina not a priority and would happy for him to come in the Summer also.

If we can keep hold of Samba, and bring in Vazquez I would be more than happy.

Lee Dixon just said Hoilett is very Fabregas like on MOD2.

Its going to be a tough call finding a good creative midfielder for Rovers money in this window but I do feel it would be the difference in us gaining a top 10 finish.

The prices already shelled out this month make it look impossible and as for the figures being quoted for Adam, well that is one we just have to forget.

As for the loan signings both made a good start. Roque did well and just needs games to gain match sharpness, Jones too had a decent debut (pen aside) and really see him making a massive difference when he gets upto the Premier League pace.
