Don't know if this has been nemtioned yet but the newspaper A Bola from Portugal is reporting that Sporting Lisbon is interested in Victor Vasquez from Barcelona.

They haven't made an offer yet but they probably will this month. The player says he is open to a transfer from Barça.

I'll translate the link later, if anyone wants to, of course.

The minute Liverpool entered the race, Adam was done. Only hindsight will tell if putting a bid in for him earlier would have achieved anything but I'm minded to think not. If Blackpool are going to reject £4m from Liverpool they sure as well would have done from us.

A sizeable portion of posters here were somewhat nervous about paying over £5m for him. If there's an item on eBay you want, you don't bid close to your maximum bid several days before the auction ends.

The more pressing issue is that seemingly the backup plan in Formica has fallen through also. It would be nice to think there is a tertiary option being considered. Kranjcar would be worth a look on deadline day.

I don’t know whether it is just my imagination or just a feeling that I had. But, when the takeover was being discussed I am sure that it was allegedly mooted that the plan would be for Kentaro and Venkys to bring in the young players that they had identified, or were on their books, and that Rovers would benefit from them playing for us BUT that Venkys and Kentaro would benefit from the sales of the players and not Rovers

At the time I didn’t know how this could be achieved as in order to be able to do it one would have to be third party owners.

A scenario where you take a desperate cash strapped club that is based in a country which doesn’t object to third party ownership (or turns a blind eye to it) and get them to take on a role to front the deal, in return for a future cut, would seem a logical solution.

Why be content with making a fee on a transfer when you can take the full profit on a players increase in value?

Rovers could be merely a Premiership shop window for players.

Could this be the reason for the alleged “complications” involved in our potential deals?

Its weird in the last transfer windown we had the Benni money- about 2 million, were told by JW that this would be spent on a striker and on transfer deadline day we were about to purchase an unknown Bulgarian for 1.5 million but didnt at the last minute because Roberts transfer broke down and he had to go before we bought someone else! So much misinformation and disappointment- this window has been brilliant so far.

At the moment we have signed a top drawer striker and a quality ball winning midfield player- both of whom we needed, we are 7th in the league and progressing well- lets get to next week and see what happens next.

If that was the case, Venky's could simply take the money from the club after the sale. No need to go to all this trouble when it will cause problems with the fans etc.

Surely they can take money out of the club anytime they wish.

But that would not look good to the fans or be part of what they agreed to do when negotiating with the trust. Why else would Kentaro want to be involved?

I am not saying that is what is happening. It is only a theory to explain the third party complications.

It isn't a made up account, hence red stars involvement. It has been reported elsewhere that it was a complicated deal. Often in life there are deals that are just not worth the hassle because of the complications involved. So you move on to the next deal.

It seems not to be complicated for Monaco though eh?

All deals are liable to be complicated if you won't come up with the cash.

What we needed above all others is an attacking midfielder with some flair and we seem to have been frustrated on all our attempts to get one. Dunny has lost a lot of his speed but it was obvious when he was substituted yesterday that our attacking play, particularly down the left suffered badly.

We should stop the clever stuff like 3rd party ownership and sign a Dunny replacement ASAP.

Or as is the case with some on here, make an issue of it and blame the owners.......

No no, i wasnt talking about whether Red Stars involvement was true or not, it was that the transfer breaking down being our/venky's fault. The transfer broke down and immediately Philip said that this was a major error by Venky's when we have little actual idea as to exactly why the transfer broke down.

You cannot quote me saying it was a major error by Venky's because I did not post that. I said the errors are on the part of Rovers without specifying who of a number of individuals might be cocking up.

However, I did post a link to an Argentinian web site which pointed the finger directly at the involvement of a management company as the reason for the breakdown on the Formica move. The Red Star involvement has been linked many times not least by a bemused nicko in at least three posts by him.

What I am saying is there have been a lot of errors made during this window (nobody can deny that) whereas our track record when John Williams was running the show was that when we had money for making purchases we had a strong track record at getting our targets and not over-paying on either wages or fees.

Anyway news of a non-transfer variety:

ESPN- Rovers look to be missing out on Formica and Larsson

This Metro piece is badly written in that it suggests we might have been in for Dempsey and Duff. Anyway Sparky is not answering his phone to us!

Chris Samba has spoken with a Rao and hopefully will sign his new contract within the next 24 hours.

Samba is very very good news!

Definitely.

Whilst I'm pleased with the incomings and the players we've been linked with, it's clear that whilst Venky's intentions may be good, they are not yet adequate enough when it comes to efficiently doing deals in the transfer market.

For this reason I'm pleased they took over when they did, because the summer will be even more important, and if they muck up deals over the summer, it could hold us back for another season.

Have to disagre a bit here. Whilst I do thinbk we need a creative midfielder I think the number one priority had to be someone in the middle of the park who could tackle and drive the team foward, the player we have been missing since Sav. Keen wants to play two up so it was crucial we got someone who could tackle in the centre or we wouuld have been over run. The umergance of Jnr and Olsson means we have creativity down the flanks.

Point taken. I suggest until we know the full reason why or even if the deal for the formica deal has failed, none of us can make a sound judgement. No blame can be attached to anybody until all the imfo is known. Till then it can only be speculation as to the reason.

Philipl.. I am sorry mate normally agree with your posts and can understand your unwillingness too release your contacts info.

But frankly on wages we have a reputation in the league for paying high wages hense our over extended budget (and 90% of our turnover going on wages) and and being unable too sell certain players as they would not be able too agree contracts elsewhere.. the most extreme example of this is Khisi, but many believe Roberts/MGP/Chimb/Grella etc etc have been greatly overpaid too the point we had too release a player so he could move and 3 others failed too agree terms elsewhere due too current high wages.

In terms of transfers we have made lots of errors in the past, ranging from overpaying on fees, taking players on trial but apparently not being able too afford them, trying too get established players too come in for trials and missing out on primary targets.

Interesting that we wanted a USA national team player (Dempsey) and signed a USA national team player (Jones).

Together with the fact that we wanted a South American player (Ronaldinho et al) and signed a South American player (Santa Cruz). Plus we are being linked with Brazilians and Argentinians.

Marketability? Or am I once again being uber-cynical?!

The BBC Sport website is reporting that Charlie Adam has handed in a transfer request.

I've heard from two different sources he would prefer a move to Ewood. Come on Venky's, show us the money and throw a bid in.

I'm getting a bit sick of all the scousers in the office saying he's 'nailed on' to move to Anfield, they are his only worthwhile option.

when does the window close ? is it midnight on the 31st?

Depends who you are, doesn't it? Some clubs will do deals after the "official closure" whenever it is, supposedly because of their paper work being in on time, the weather or whatever, but in reality, it often seems to fans, because of who they are or who the player is
