Sasman Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I think Roberts might have a leadership role to play within the club. Kean is impressed with his attitude, and to give him credit, his work ethic is really second to none. Will be more of an impact player off the bench rather then play a pivotal role in the starting line up, and to be honest, you can do much worse for a 3rd/4th choice striker? Santa Cruz, Kalinic, MB Diouf, Roberts, Benjani....
philipl Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 That makes giving Roberts a new deal seem a bit stranger. It only makes sense if there is no interest in making RSC and BMD permanent.
Hughesy Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Lets not forget....as it stands End of season - Kalinic....Roberts....Benjani
John Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 It makes complete sense to keep Roberts, we could have pretty much no other strikers on our books in the summer otherwise.
Hughesy Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Nicko news: Rochina for £1m & Sao Paulo fella on long term deal Blackpool slap £12 MILLION price tag on Adam
Paul Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I personally like what I see of Charlie Adam. He's a decent, strong minded footballer. But I don't think he's worth 5 million to anyone, except Blackpool, let alone the 14 million demanded by Halloway. No one here complained whe rovers talked RSC's value up to £17m so we can hardly take issue with Holloway doing the same. I say go for it Ian, the bidders are taking the p1ss so you have a go back at them.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Value of a footballer is so totally subjective it's hardly worth arguing about, to be honest. A player is priced at what his club think he's worth. If the buying club agrees and he does well there, it's a bargain. If they agree and he flops, they were ripped off. If they don't agree, he doesn't move, or the price is negotiated down and the success/failure is still in the balance. People treat footballers like houses - he's a 5 bedroom with an en suite and you're offering terraced money. Bah.
Sverre Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 With diouf's performances thus far in mind, does anyone think that SAF will seek to sell Diouf in the summer window?
Tim Southampton Rover Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Victor Vazquez: "Sporting is an option because for now Barcelona didn't renew me. I don't exclude it. If they make a good offer
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 All I can say is I hope the reports on Roberts being offered a new contract aren't true.
Hughesy Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 All I can say is I hope the reports on Roberts being offered a new contract aren't true. Well as we have seen quotes direct from him then it seems true....Il be GUTTED if its more than an extra 12 months!!
Oklahoma Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 More Rovers related news in The Mirror by Nicko: The Hammers are also negotiating with Blackburn for El-Hadji Diouf. They want him on a free transfer, but Rovers manager Steve Kean is looking for a fee. In the portuguese newspaper Jornal da Madeira, it is reported that ROvers representatives were watching the Maritimo - Sporting Lisbon game last monday night. Here are the teams that played in that game: Sporting - Rui Patrício, Daniel Carriço, Anderson Polga, Evaldo, João Pereira, Pedro Mendes, Jaime Valdés, Zapater, André Santos, Vukcevic, Liédson. Bench:Tiago, Torsiglieri, Maniche, Carlos Saleiro, Salomão, Zézinho, Nuno Coelho Maritimo - Boeck, Alonso, Roberge, Rafael Miranda, Luciano Amara, João Guilherme, Robert, Djalma, Marquinh, Babá, Diawara, Sidnei. Bench: Marafona, Héldon, Kléber, Danilo Dias, Tchô, Robso, Briguel. I think the player they wanted to watch is Vukcevic. But players like Rui patricio (GK), Daniel Carriço (fullback), André Santos (DM), João Pereira (RB), Evaldo (LB) would be good for Rovers too
Billy Castell Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Swap him for Parker! Anyway, do you know anything about this Barca midfield player Oklahoma? Or Benfica trying to sign him?
sijoco Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Link to EHD Story and Link to Rochina Story both Nicko in Mirror
Oklahoma Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Swap him for Parker! Anyway, do you know anything about this Barca midfield player Oklahoma? Or Benfica trying to sign him? Victor Valdez has been in the cover of portuguese sports newspapers twice since Sporting Lisbon seem to be interested in him.
Darwen End Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I wouldn't pay more than eight million for Charlie Adam. Hollaway was daft to compare him to Xabi Alonso
Sandiway Blue Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I wouldn't pay more than eight million for Charlie Adam. Hollaway was daft to compare him to Xabi Alonso Surely not as daft as somebody rating Adam anywhere near £8m!
Hughesy Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 In the portuguese newspaper Jornal da Madeira, it is reported that Rovers representatives were watching the Maritimo - Sporting Lisbon game last monday night. Last monday being the one just gone! Interesting this was picked up. This was brought to my attention Tuesday morning....Wasnt sure if it would make newspaper material.
RevidgeBlue Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 More Rovers related news in The Mirror by Nicko: The Hammers are also negotiating with Blackburn for El-Hadji Diouf. They want him on a free transfer, but Rovers manager Steve Kean is looking for a fee. If true I hope we're not looking for too much of a fee. It would surely be a huge bonus just to get his 40k p.w. salary off the wage bill.
Oklahoma Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 In Vital Football a few minutes ago: S Wright Phillips- Is available and Rovers are interested. However Blackburn want the winger to take a pay cut of 25k per week, and a 4 year contract will be on the table. Bolton are also in the runningWarnock- Simple really, Villa owe Blackburn money, and are finding a way not to stump up the cash. Best bet is to send the man back, and call it evens. Warnock wanted to go back to Liverpool, but they arent willing to offer a full time contract, could be a return to Ewood Park.... Rochina- The deal looks set. Player has agreed terms with Rovers, only hold up is the fee which Barcelona want. A bit of haggling on clauses, add ons, etc.....will be in a Rovers shirt soon. Roniel- Arrived on Monday, the club will be holding an in house closed doors match, giving the young man a shot as well as players returning from injury, Grella, Andrews, Nzonzi, Roberts, etc..... http://www.blackburn.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=229610
Steve Moss Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Warnock, SWP, Rochina and Roniel would be a decent set of acquisitions for one window, coupled with the loans already made. I assume SWP would be an EHD replacement, which is fine with me. Warnock is either LB or cover to Givet, with Givet being available for CB duties, is also a good move. He'll find his form again. Has it occured to anyone else that Kean may be re-creating Hughes' dream team, with RSC, Warnock and SWP? On a slightly more concerned note, has anyone heard about the status of Samba? I thought a day or two back that Kean said he'd have "positive" news.
Oklahoma Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Today's edition of newspaper A Bola has the following article: "Blackburn have an eye on Vukcevic"Basicly, it says that Blackburn Rovers have been following him recently not only in Alvalade (Sporting Lisbon's stadium) but also in Estádio dos Barreiros where Sporting played their last game. It seems that Vukcevic is seen as good solution for Rovers. However Sporting will not let him go easy as he is important for the team due to his capacity of improvisation and making a diference in the attack. http://www.abola.pt/nnh/ver.aspx?id=244099 It seems there is more about it in the printed version of the newspaper.
slough_rover Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Hmmm Vukcevic does have a reputation for being a bit of a bad egg and always wanting his way.
Iceman Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I know they probably old now not sure how old, but Maniche and Pedro Mendes would be good short term. PL experience, and both capable of unlocking a defence or doing something special.
