[Archived] Entertainment or Result Is All That Matters?

Recommended Posts

In Italian football and Spanish to an extent, owners regularly swallow their pride when they realize THEY'RE WRONG and ask the previous manager to come back. Its funny but yet again Sam is the best man during this time. Goes to show how idiotic the original decision was. People forget that clubs like ours dont have the luxury to make mistakes over management selections.

I say it again, as its still not too late, we are dead lucky that Sam had picked up 21 points.

A 4-1 defeat is a result, albeit a bad one.

A good result for me would be for Mrs Desai to see realise her mistake, swallow her pride and ask Sam to come back.

Otherwise her precious Venky's are going to be the laughing stock of the sub Continent playing in the Championship next season.

Spot on.

If I was one of the Raos, I would realise that now is not the time for pride and a huge investment is at risk. IMO, horrendous decisions have been taken based upon rank bad advice.

First moves would be to get rid of Anderson as an advisor and get back to where we were with JW & Big Sam, if at all possible.

As Big Sam said whilst he was still manager and the Raos were beginning to talk about 'entertainment' - winning at home sends the supporters home happy and entertained.

It's simply results, results, results.

Someone said earlier that this is like watching a car crash in slow motion. Dare we cling to the faint hope that someone from the previous owners might buy us for a song from the receivers in a stop-loss deal 2-3 years down the line?

I think that is highly likely but much more quickly than we think ;)

Ha that has been what my family have all been saying today - wouldn't it be amazing if the Walkers felt terrible, bought us back and ended this absolute nightmare.

In the meantime, I suggest we all play the Euromillions and hope one of us gets lucky...

I'd rather have Colonel Gaddafi running us.

its simple, we should have kept Sam, survived the season, and the get a new manager in the summer. what was so difficult about that, and really it was a stupid decision at a crucial time of the season. They could well live to regret it, stupid fools

Exactly, which is why I try not to get involved in the Kean vs Allardyce threads as it seems you either have to want Sam here permanently or replaced as he was with Kean. I was no big fan of Sam's style of football but nor did I want, or enjoy his sacking at the time it cam and who he was replaced with.

Sam should have been given the year whilst Venky's went about QUIETLY in the background sounding out potential new managers for the summer (along with gauging budgets and how much we needed to achieve what they were aiming for).

I think most of those fans fed-up with Sam (e.g. myself) could say no fairer than that. I'm not sure why they decided to make such a knee-jerk decision. You'd also think, from a business side of things, they could have saved themselves a couple of million by letting Sam's contract expire.

I think this is true of many people and I speculate this was a major criterion in the shock caused at the time by the sacking.

Agreed

I think Sam's football was poor but to sack him in December was crazy

And nobody expected a novice coach to be his PERMANENT replacement.

I was all for giving Kean a chance (not like we had a choice) but it's looking desperate now.

Ironically, an Allardyce-esque manager is exactly what we need right now.

Its what we always needed!

Kean should never have been given a chance, but more importantly Allardyce should never have been sacked. I don't know what you expected from a team with no money, and a very poor squad but we finished 10th in the league and got to a semi-final of the league cup.

Its a case of be careful what you wish for.. We had a very very dependable manager and too may people on here couldnt see that.

I've heard a lot of people say we deserve everything we get this season, and i must admit i'm beginning to agree. The way the owners have treated a number of people in the last 2 months e.g. JW, SA and EHD has been absolutely disgraceful.

I think Venky's deserve everything they get. I don't think we deserve to watch our club crumble at the same time.

I wish Venky's realising how ridiculous they have been wouldn't result in both simultaneously. I hope they never realise it and we end up being ok.

Clutching.at.straws.probably.

Well said Jimmy612. Why could they not see it? It was blatantly obvious.

I also could not understand what was expected of SA by the fans. The priority quite rightly being to remain in this division which SA achieved with ease. Those with little knowledge of football can now work out and compare for themselves how good a job he did with the players available. People argued we could play expansive, pass and move football and stay up with ease. Ermmmmm....Raincheck. No we couldn't.

Kean has had a large cash injection and we still look half the team that we did before and are now in a right mess. How long did that take? 12 weeks or so? Give me strength.

Should SA have changed styles to placate fans and results gone badly he would have been lynched. Shame he was not given some money to buy better quality players, as we would have reaped the rewards and gone from strength to strength.

Historically we have always been a classy club managing things professionally in house. I have been hugely proud of the club at times and the way it was run going back to the 1970's when I began watching. We were desperately short of crowds, money and results at times during these decades, but never lost our class, dignity, professionalism, or common sense.

In removing Sam, removing Williams and removing EHD we have displayed amazing stupidity, further enhanced by employing Kean and third party agents to manage and run the club.

It is a laugh a minute, but no-one is laughing.

And if Allardyce had provided another top half finish why on earth would anybody with an ounce of intelligence want to have replaced him? Surely far more sensible to have offered some financial support surely to a very capable manager who kept this club defying gravity by a comfortable distance.

Remember Joan herself reckons the secret to good business is just plain common sense. Her Dad told her that apparently. .....Bet the old fella's spinning in his grave at her stupidity and I've got to say it .. her gullibility.

I'm ###### gobsmacked at the stupidity of some people on here! Sambo you're normally OK but I'm afraid I've now put you in the 'stupid' category. Whats done is done and too late now to realise your mistake. Pot Allardyce and who do you think we could reasonably have got as manager? Another Hughes or another Ince? I'd think the odds of getting the latter are a lot shorter than getting another Sparky.... come to think of it Kean is the proof of that. There was simply no need to even take a gamble.

I just said sacking him in December was crazy?

I don't even see how we disagree, sacking Sam was stupid, and promoting Kean on a permanent contract was the icing on the cake.

Big Sam was always going to be stable. If we were going to sack him, doing so in Summer would have left us more time to stabilise and not derailed our steady progress.

So what you're saying is, after sacking Sam Kean was a good choice?

I have agreed with you, yet I'm stupid...eh?

What do you mean NOW? Has this farce not proved Allardyce was exactly what we need full stop!

Yeah that's true, but I'm talking in relation to a dogfight - we need an experienced head like Sam more than ever. When I say 'now', I just mean especially now.

He proved in 2009 he can get a struggling team out of trouble.
