RibbleValleyRover Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 He's oozes quality and if he continues his development and reaches his full potential he's going to become a world class player. Numerous clubs will be interested which should drive the price up. It would be sad to see him go but if a Champions League club come in and offer mega bucks and he wants to play at the highest level then what can we do?
Gav Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 With a heavy heart,If either Liverpool or Utd come a calling with that sort of money then he'll be off asap and, sadly, who can blame him?.Make the most of this talented lad these last few games. Contracts mean nothing and can be paid off. If we go down I could understand it, but if he moves and we're still in the Premiership, a Rovers fan also, I'd be a bit saddened by that SG. If I was in the same boat I'd stay, for now.
A cup of beans Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 agreed gav. best thing for Phil to do is stay and continually improve with us- providing we stay up. a player i like the look of, and always impresses me (whenever i watch him in live sky games) is forest's lewis mcgugan. 22 years of age - ball playing midfielder, who can also be combative when needed. tireless worker, freekick specialist, crosses a great ball, and never afraid to have a shot at goal (heard a stat about him in fridays game that he averages almost 1 goal in every 3 games this season. would love rovers to go in for him, especially if forest dont make it up in the playoffs.
Hughesy Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 If any club wants him then we should hold out for MEGA money....Carrol went for £35m because he was young, English and had a decent start to the prem. Bolton are talking about £20m+ for Cahill who is older. Come the end of the season when Phil has once again proved himself against United, Bolton, aswell as City just gone - big teams will without doubt want him. Want the best young talent around....then you have to pay top dollar. I hope/ pray Rovers resist all bids and he stays loyal to the team he supports and that have given him the platform to make it!

Our clubs on its arse at the moment.
John Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Looks like the injury has not affected him at all - has been playing superb since he's been back, also impressed in the midfield role. Some good surging runs.

If we stay up I'd expect at least another season, but will Venkys cash in and leave him no choice

joey_big_nose Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 No way 20 million +. I bet you a fiver someone will offer 20m + for him. Totally certain of it, unless he has another injury. As Hughesy said you only need to look at Caroll.
heysham rover Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Kenny Dal and Damian Comolli were sat two rows behind me at Ewwod on Monday night, I can only assume they were watching Phil Jones or possibly Samba. The attendance of Comolli being far more significant as he has the final say with regards player recruitment.
Torgeir Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I hope/ pray Rovers resist all bids and he stays loyal to the team he supports and that have given him the platform to make it! Me too, but what if we go down? It won't leave us in the best bargaining position, will it? I'm hopeful that we'll stay up and that Venky's see the urgent need for reinforcements, and that young Phil looks at that with excitement and wants to stay another season or two. Hopefully his agent(s) aren't trying to sway him either - anyone know who represents him?

I don't think relegation will change the price in this case (i think he will stay if we stay up but go if we go down though). The key reason being there are multiple clubs interested. I think all of the top four/six in England would be in for him, and who is to say he hasn't been spotted by the big Italian or Spanish clubs? The competition will keep the price up. Its not like he supports any of the other clubs so I doubt he would have a strong preference, and he would want to see Rovers get a good deal.
Sandiway Blue Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11676_6900273,00.html Looks promising...
True Blue & White Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Just to prove Liverpool fans know nowt, here are some of their comments on Jones from thisisanfield.com He's good but with Wilson, Wisdom and Ayala already in our team (and all of them having ball-playing abilities that I haven't noticed with Jones), I doubt this is happening Good player but he needs to get himself into proper shape as it's clear as daylight that he is carrying a bit of timber. Where do people get these silly numbers from, £12m!?! yeah right. No thanks. Great prospect but so is andre wisdom, would rather save us 12m and push him on.
Hughesy Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Liverpool fans - £12m too much for the BEST young english prospect? As for the link - looks like we have been scouting young, spanish players alot - cant be a bad thing.
Oklahoma Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Two targets from Portugal: Falcao Coentrao PLEASE VENKYS!!!!!
chaddyrovers Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Two targets from Portugal: Falcao PLEASE VENKYS!!!!! I do agree. He would be a very good player in the PL. maybe rovers could sign him but we need a manager who could attract players of his quality to come to rovers. Kean is not a manager or a big name to attract players of his quality.
Oklahoma Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Considering our current team, both would be great for us: Coentrao is one of the best left backs in the world and will leave Benfica for sure. Falcao is the best player and striker in the europa league, just scored 4 against Villarreal tonight.
ABBEY Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 a heart felt plea.....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP DISCUSSING TARGETS UNTIL WE KNOW WHERE THE HELL WE WILL BE NEXT SEASON....HAPPY THOUGHTS AND DONT BRING ANY JINXING UNLUCKY KARMA....
Iceman Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Falcao and Coentrao , more like falcon and Contrary
booth Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Just to prove Liverpool fans know nowt, here are some of their comments on Jones from thisisanfield.com Dumb, dumber, thick and stupid
chaddyrovers Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Bellamy linked with Everton, stoke, Bolton and Rovers http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Everton-and-Stoke-in-the-running-to-sign-Manchester-City-misfit-Craig-Bellamy-article730166.html Rovers should be after this guy http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Sunderland-and-Liverpool-keen-on-15m-Sevilla-striker-Alvaro-Negredo-article730178.html can't see him coming here but he would be a class signing and depend who is the manager next season then maybe we might have a chance of signing him
