[Archived] Venky's Summer Transfer List

Rovers should be after this guy

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Sunderland-and-Liverpool-keen-on-15m-Sevilla-striker-Alvaro-Negredo-article730178.html

can't see him coming here but he would be a class signing and depend who is the manager next season then maybe we might have a chance of signing him

Um....

Sunderland want £15million-rated Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo to replace Darren Bent.

That 3 window's worth of funds. We won't spend more than £5m this Summer and it will be like that every window. If we did end up spending £15m in one go I'd be seriously worried where we were getting the money from.

Bellamy could just as easy stay at Cardiff if they're promoted, I bet he'd love to play for the Bluebirds at the top level.

How can they say a skint everton team are intereseted but we're 'also rans' because of the cost of the deal, especially when nobody knows what kind of money we have.

Looking at the game, it seemed pretty obvious to me that Venkys are looking at far more than 5M per transfer window just to keep us in the premiership (assuming we stay up of course).

We had one creative player on the pitch and he had to score as well. Will they fork out and will the manager make the right choices?

For the moment we can rejoice a little but those are the sober realities.

I'm a realist, but even I can see that Rovers have some exciting young talent if we stay up (though granted they'll all be off we if get relegated).

Few teams will want to play against Olsson and Hoilett on either wing - both players have pace to burn and that X factor, though they both need to improve their final ball. Hoilett has been a big miss these past few games, he's been our only creative spark. Thankfully, Givet decided he wanted to play again, which allowed Olsson to shift forward to left wing where he's much, much, much better. You saw the result today, he gave Wheater a torrid time.

I've also really liked what I've seen from Rochina in two cameo appearances. The lad has quality on the ball - he's an exciting prospect in his own right. Also, hopefully Formica has something about him too, it'd be a shame for him to have invested so much money on him only for him to be awful. We certainly could use as many creative players as we can get our hands on.

As for summer transfer targets - well we need a new pair of fullbacks straight away: Givet wants out (allegedly) and Salgado is on his last legs. Obviously a midfielder to compliment N'Zonzi is a must too; probably two given the lack of quality we have there.

I also assume Kalinic is on his way out, given his treatment, which is a shame. It would mean we need two strikers though as Santa Cruz, and Diouf are going back (and good riddance), Benjani can't possibly warrant a new contract and Roberts is dire.

I'd like to get rid of some of the dead wood too if possible: Grella, Roberts, Andrews, and Emerton (he's finished at this level), though that's easier said than done.

All of this would cost more than £5m though so it's pie in the sky stuff.

if you where to rank and value the clubs current players who would be peoples top 5 or 6, guessing everyone has jones as the number 1 most valuable asset, ollson second and hoillet third, samba fourth then robbo and after that i really don't rate anyone in the squad enough that they'd be missed when sold/contract terminated(grella,Dunn)

We can build a team around the current back 4(+ Nelsen), Robbo and the 2 young wingers and N'Zonzi. But that leaves us with 1 promising striker in Rochina and. nothing in central mid-field other than the Zonz--I'm not going to even hope about Formica

That's 2 quality strikers at least required plus 2 central mid-fielders. And that's assuming Givet stays and Salgado can front up for another year! I just don't see where that sort of money will come from.So we could well face all the same problems again especially if we don't sack Kean and get a real manager.

Considering our current team, both would be great for us:

Coentrao is one of the best left backs in the world and will leave Benfica for sure.

Falcao is the best player and striker in the europa league, just scored 4 against Villarreal tonight.

Coentrao has a 15-25 million Euro price tag. Id guess Falcao has at least 15 million Euros on his head too.

We need to keep the machine that is jermaine jenas...

Getting hold of a half decent midfielder is significantly more difficult than getting hold of a good defender

Surely you mean Jermaine Jones?

I think you have got Olsson and Hoilett the wrong way round there. Olsson looks good, but Hoilett seems like he is a genuine international class player who will go on and keep improving.

As for whose worth keeping I would add Nzonzi to your list who looks much better now than six months ago. Givet is a decent player and worth a couple of million. Salgado and Nelsen provide a lot of crucial experience. But you are right that in Grella, Andrews, Pedersen, Dunn, Roberts, Benjani, Kalinic and Emerton we have eight players who it is hard to see offering much next season. We certainly shouldn't be relying on as regular starters.

At least four of them need to move on, but how do we achieve that?

There are a few areas of the team that need to be strengthened. As good as Salgado has been this season, I do think that getting a right back would be a good bit of business. I'm not sure if there are any youngsters in the reserves who could possibly be promoted to be his understudy, but we do need a long term replacement for him. Emerton has covered for him when needs be, but there are people who have question marks about his future with the club.

A new left back wouldn't be a bad idea either IMO. Givet has done a good job out there, but he's a centre back and should be competing for that position. Martin Olsson has shown that he is far more effective on the left wing and should play there all the time. It's good that we would have two players in the squad who could play that position if needed, but I do think the time has come for a natural left back to be bought.

Elsewhere in the team, bringing Jermaine Jones to the club permanently should be a priority. I've been very impressed with him since he's arrived. Another centre midfield player should also be bought in. The likes of Andrews and Grella should be shipped out in the summer. Pedersen and Dunn are options for that position, but I don't see them playing as much next season and wouldn't be surprised if one of them was shipped out. A goalscoring forward is probably the biggest priority. Even getting two strikers could be a possibility. Personally I think that it will be a toss up if Kalinic stays or goes, Rochina is talented player who looks like his best position would be playing off a striker and while Roberts and Benjani have real limitations, their size and power give us another option up front, but I don't see both of them being here next season. Formica is another player who I look forward to seeing next season. Our situation has meant that we haven't had the luxury of introducing him to the Premiership. But by all accounts he's one of the most talented and creative players we've had in a while. Santa Cruz and Diouf will be sent back to their clubs in the summer.

I see up to six players being bought into the club, with a striker and centre midfielder being the priority. I would like to get rid of Andrews, Brown, Grella and Roberts or Benjani. Depending on whether or not we get a second midfielder, either Pedersen or Dunn could find themselves being moved on. I would like to hold onto Emerton, as he gives us options with his versatility.

All of the above is totally dependent on our Premiership survival. But looking a head optimistically I would like to see a line up looking like this next year:

Robinson

Salgado, Samba, P.Jones, New Left Back

Hoilett, N'Zonzi/New Midfielder, J.Jones, Olsson

New Striker, Kalinic / Rochina / New Striker

or

Robinson

Salgado, Samba, P.Jones, New Left Back

N'Zonzi/New Midfielder, J.Jones

Hoilett, Formica/Rochina, Olsson

New Striker

Well, Ramm is highly thought of in the reserves. He's still only 18, but he could be a long-term successor if he lives up to his potential.

If that is the case, then maybe it would be not the worst idea to keep Emerton as a sub RB, as long as we don't use him down the wing.

Then we can look at replacing Salgado next year, and then he could compete with Ramm.

I'd like us to try and convince Seb Larsson and David Vaughan on frees, they would improve our midfield with Jermaine Jones.

Vaughan is a good shout.

not quite sure where Larrson would fit in if you are going to play Hoilett and Olsson on the wings unless you move Hoilett up front.

JJ I think we must at least try to buy him!

Summer transfer targets:

Strikers: We have Rochina and Kalinic (whom we need to keep for at least one more season). We need at least one more whose names aren't Roberts, Benjani, Santa Cruz or Mame Diouf, all of whom should be sent home or sold. Perhaps a significant investment in a quality striker, with another young prospect on loan with an option to purchase? But we need at least one quality striker if we are to stake a claim as a top 8 club.

Midfield: Hoillett, Olsson and N'Zonzi would be more than decent as starters, Dunn and MGP are potentially worth keeping as subs. J. Jones would be an outstanding acquisition, if we could get him. The rest need to be shifted.

Defenders: Salgado and Givet aren't here for long, and Jackson Ramm and Josh Morris are too young (but will hopefully make strides over the next year). So we need one dedicated RB and one LB. As to CB, we are blessed with Samba and P. Jones, with Nelsen, Givet and Hanley as subs.

Keepers: We are blessed with Robinson and Bunn.

Sell: Andrews, Grella, Roberts, and Emerton. To me, it doesn't matter if we let them go on a free as long as they are off our wage bill. If we need to raise some cash, MGP, Dunn and Givet may have some value and I wouldn't cry of they went elsewhere.

if you where to rank and value the clubs current players who would be peoples top 5 or 6, guessing everyone has jones as the number 1 most valuable asset, ollson second and hoillet third, samba fourth then robbo and after that i really don't rate anyone in the squad enough that they'd be missed when sold/contract terminated(grella,Dunn)

In order:

1. Robinson.

2. Hoilett.

3. P. Jones.

4. Samba.

5. Olsson.

6. N'Zonzi.

Those are the 6 we need to keep as the "core" squad. And I'm not knocking Nelsen, Salgado, Givet, Hanley, etc. but they aren't the players we need to build a squad around.

We need to keep the machine that is jermaine jenas...

Absolutely, if we can. If we can get J. Jones, our midfield picks itself.

Jermaine Jones is a must, they have to sign him permanently.

The problem is though I hope he isn't one of those type of players that once they get the proper contract they end up going crap and uncommitted...

J. Jones as a many year reputation as being a committed, hard charging, no mercy midfielder. He's only here because of a fall out with the Schalke 04 manager. If we can get him permenantently, he'll be an asset for a few years (before his body breaks down as happens with players of his type).

Should we stay up and Wolves go down I would consider taking a serious look at Jamie O'Hara. He was in the main responsible for their mid season resurgence. Quality for Pompey the year before to. Adds some bite, graft and a bit of skill in the middle of the part.

I believe Spurs have a set price agreed with Wolves providing they stay up which isn't to much. If we were to be able to negotiate a similar deal he would be a great signing.

A MF five next season of:

-------J Jones---N'Zonzi

Hoilett----Kranjcar----Olsson

would do me for me. Guess Formica should be filling the AF role, BUT!.

Schalke with a new manager in place, they always want to bring in there own players, could be a key factor in getting Jones, still think he will cost the thick end of 5m, possible more. and think Nicko mentioned he was on circa 60k pw.
