[Archived] Venky's Summer Transfer List

I would want to keep Benjani but would be happy to get rid of any of the other strikers and get more dynamic players in to replace them. Maybe Formica could be the creative playmaker we need but suspect we might have been sold a turkey there by the fact that no matter how bad things have got he hasn't been given a run out.

Apperently the problem with Formica is that he's just too lightweight. Technically good but staff aren't convinced he'll ever handle the Prem. Rochina on the other hand is being talked about definite first teamer. Has made a really good impression by all acounts.

Just looking at that makes me weep. We are so close, two players, to having a midfield which can battle it out with the best of them. Add a PL qaulity striker and two fullbacks and we would be challenging for top 6.

Things aren't like the old days anymore. As great a manager as Hughes was, he had a considerably easier league to deal with.

Even with the changes you recommend, us finishing top 6 would mean we'd be challenging the likes of Spurs, Man City and Liverpool.

Just not gonna happen.

surely nothing in it, it would be crazy to bid that amount before being safe. plus I thought we'd spent our budget for the next 3 years...

has nicko been around yet? http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6909740,00.html

Have to say this looks like a live one. You don't usually get the clubs themselves pretending that someone's made a bid...unless they're trying to invite a bidding war. But then Rovers could easily deny it if that was the case.

Never seen the guy play, but looks excellent on paper.

It could also depend on what formation we play. At the moment we are going with a straight 4-4-2 and you aren't going to play him in the centre of the pitch or as a striker. Playing off a striker or playing in three man midfield, where there are two holding midfielders could also see him do well. The guy has come from Argentina, where the football wouldn't be as good or as fast, but one thing you can rely on knowing the Argies is that it would tough! If he could play there, he should be able to adapt to the physical demands of the Premiership. I was excited by this signing and would like to see him given a chance next season. I'm not saying that he's as good as these players, but people may have thought that the likes of Messi or closer to home David Silva wouldn't have been up to the physical demands of Spanish and English football, but until you are given a chance you don't know.

Sky Sports are also reporting us moving for Cisse. The guy has been on fire in the Bundesliga this season and would be a good signing. I doubt we could afford the fee and if the likes of Liverpool are in for him, then we wouldn't have much chance.

No saying your wrong, but i never understand that. Just because your not built like Jason Roberts doesnt mean you cant do well in this league.

Papiss Demba Cisse is a good player. I only ever seen him once and that was a couple months ago.

His goalscoring record this season is quite impressive considering that he is not at what of the german big clubs.

The Piers Edwards article is a good one about the player.

I know its just talk and speculation but im liking the sounds of who we are being linked with. Like some have said J Jones would be a key signing. His performance against Arsenal and on saturday v Bolton were brilliant, the gu doesnt stop running!! I think it helps with Nzonzi sitting in there screeening the back four.

I dont think there needs to be massive investment in the summer but money does deffo need to be spent. Im happyt with the back 5 and Nzonzi, Holliett and Olsson in midfield. A couple of good strikers and getting JJ on a perm basis and i dont think hitting top 8-10 will be unrealistic. Rochina looks like he could be a class act as well.

Key though, obviously, is staying up!!!

"We won't say that Blackburn are not interested but we have yet to receive a concrete offer on paper."

Interesting...trying to start a bidding war IMO.

As has been mentioned previously we should focus alot of our attention on getting Jermaine Jones in the summer. He is exactly the kind of player we needed in midfield and exactly the kind of player we want to keep.

The message to Venkys and their main priority (assuming we stay up *touch wood*) should be to sign Jones and extend the contract of Hoillet. They also need to rid us of deadwood such as Grella, Andrews and the like.

Methinks the weekend has provided me with too much optimism for the future

That striker Sam was looking at last season, Pentecote is out of contract in the summer, any of our French football followers know what he's been upto since his injury.

He's only just recently come back from injury. If you recall he picked up a serious injury in August that ended any possibility of us signing him in the summer and he is still trying to get back to full fitness and in the team.

This is madness!

Surely we can't actually make a club record bid, 3 games before the end of the season, when we don't even know what Division we will be playing in next year?!

Ordinarily it would be madness, but if you look at the current regime's grip on reality it'd be entirely consistent.

However it looks like Freiburg have denied we've made a bid in this instance.

Unfortunately our most reliable source of verification for rumours like this has been hounded off the forum by the angry mob.

Shame that really.

Looking at Papiss Cisse's goal record makes for good reading. Signing Jermanie Jones and Junior up, bringing this guy in, selling deadwood i.e. Andrews, Grella would be a good start to this summers business providing we are still in the Premier League.
